So Rafa is tied with Guga? I had no idea Guga remained number one that long.

More than him being number one, I want him to be able to play pain free. I've been down this road with so many of my favorites.

I have something like this in a spread sheet. I also have the breakdown for all the top 4.

Rafa's #1 is pretty much safe until after Wimbledon (unless he loses early), but its in trouble later on this summer. He can't defend the 800 from the Olympics and Federer is defending NOTHING in Cincy and Canada :drink:

Not to mention the schedule stagger

Great thread. Although I am more than familiar with the ranking issues in the following months I find it very useful.
Keep it up, mate. :wavey:

Yeah thats true . However something tells me that Rafa will handle himself perfectly for the U.S open .

I hope Rafa will play his best in the end of the season where he hasn't got many points to defend and that fact will guarantee his year-end no.1
Vamos !!!

Hmm hopefully the schedule will be staggered better due to the fact that the first half of the year has been brutal especially on the knees. BUT I hope to see him in Montreal (that is me being selfish heehee).

an update shawshank? :)

Sorry for being late but I have just started my holidays ;)
The update has been made, although most probably it is the last update before Rafa will lose the 1st position. No reasons to be happy :(

With the #1 lost now, is there any chance for Rafa to regain it to earn the year-end #1 for '09? I doubt it's likely, since Fed has heaps of points to pick up in Montreal/Cincinnati, plus after the US Open but can someone actually crunch some numbers? Thanks.

I made an update. Year-end number 1 is still an open case, however Roger is a huge favourite.
Generally, after few weeks of updating this thread Rafa lost number one position :( Maybe I should give up doing this :)

And I have no idea why did ATP put Rafa´s Monte Carlo points to ATP World Tour Masters 1000 group as it was supossed to be counted as ATP World Tour 500. And it was counted like this before. Anyway, I did the same.

I've made an update. Not a nice one since Rafa lost his nr 2 spot, but actually I like the fact that Rafa most probably will be seeded nr 3 for US Open and he can play Roger already in semis.
The most positive thing guys you can read on the bottom of my update in Post 1 ;)

The good thing is that both Murray and Federer have to defend twice as many points as Nadal till the rest of the season. This means that Rafa still have a huge chance to get year end number one spot.

Wow, that's good indeed. :D
Hopefully Rafa will be back to his old i.e. 2008 self pretty soon. :D

I've made an update, but there is nothing to be happy about. Rafa has almost no chances to comeback to nr 1 spot. Read more in Post 1.

It was predictable after Roger's great summer
But Rafa hasn't to play extra ordinary to secure year-end no.2. He's almost safe there (I mean, in Race he's ahead of Murray by 2100 points)
Vamos !

I've made an update. Again nothing to be happy about. Most probably Nadal will spend the first part of the next year as a number 3. The ranking game will start again before French Open. More info in 1st post!

Prediction for the next couple of weeks:
Nadal must win 1300 points more than Novak Djokovic before Roland Garros to get back number two spot and seed for French Open.
To overtake Federer after French Open Rafa would need to gain till the end of clay season 2630 points more than Roger.
Step after step, but for Rafa getting number one spot is very possible just after Wimbledon. We only need to pray for his knees to leave him alone!

We are back at No.1 :) This week will be Nadal's 47th at the top! Federer will lose 2000 points for Wimby 2009, so Rafa is secured at No.1 till at least Masters in Canada (16.08.2010). That's 10 weeks at least. Ofcourse there is a huge chance that Rafa will stay at the top longer. After removing points for Wimbledon 09' Rafa has 2310 points of advantage over Roger! Awesome :)

I'm hoping he can stay like this till the end of the year which is I think is likely to happen. I want more year end finishes at number 1 so glad he's back on top there were moments last year that I didn't think it would ever happen again. This is why I love this guy:hug:
