Great for the game.
Ljuba Truba going on a tear from 3-4 40-0 on Simon's serve winning 7 games in a row.
The Ljuba changed his tactics, decided to throw in some slices and some moonballs and he showed up that Simple Simon struggles to generate pace, when he has none to feed off.

:haha:
That was one year ago, when Simon was on the top of his form.
He has beaten many good players then. He is obviously strugling lately, losing to players he should not lose. But Ljubicic is no one of them.
And there are much more humiliating loses to the top players on the last couple of years .
foul_dwimmerlaik
05-14-2009, 06:59 PM
Towards the end of the 2nd Ljubo fianlly got the memo that you have to make Simon create his own pace to beat him. Instead of going for risky shots and missing, he started giving Simon empty balls to the middle of the court, which Simon couldn't do anything with. He outpushed the pusher.
Fucking great result - Simon is an abomination, he and his ridiculous Wolverine 'do should be out of the top10 asap.

I mean he was hitting himself out of the event with the schoolboy errors and wasn't serving that well. So he took a bit off the serve, and then played some heavier shots with less pace, got Simple out of his rhythm and pissed him off.
Then when Ljubo had the right ball to attack for the most part, he made the right decision.
Good for the game as I said before.

Simon looked like he was on opium or something as he staggered off the court; he was in a state of disbelief.
His trajectory 2008-2009 is very much like Ferrer's 2007-2008. I for one hope that Gilles can turn this around, and going on the glimpses of form shown here we might see it at the FO. If not there then Wimbledon. He just has to put defeats like this behind him and move on.

Horror show from Simon. He was playing semi-OK for 1.5 sets, Ljubo was awful, couldn't keep the ball in court. Then a set and a break ahead he blew up at 40-0 on his own serve, Ljubo won 7 games in a row, and that was that. As someone above mentioned, Ljubo reverted to pushing to nice depth, just like he did in their Indian Wells meeting - this is the match I was expecting beforehand, but Ljubo's errors (17 in first 7 games!) prevented him from pulling it off.
Simon has been abysmal recently, but he was under no pressure for a good while. The faintest whiff of pressure, he reverted back to the old.
Says a lot that Simon served really well (10 aces!), against an opponent half-asleep, and managed to lose. Kudos to Ljubo for hanging in there when he had no feel for the ball whatsoever.

The amount of Simon hate on GM :o. Don't hate Gilles because he's beautiful.
Simon won more points than Ljuba, but from this thread you'd think it was a 6-0 6-0 trouncing. Meanwhile Ljuba's straight-set dismissal of a Tsonga who can't even run on clay without tripping inspires no mockery. Hypocrites.
This loss sucks for Gilles but he did better than in other matches against Ivan.
Ivan's playing smarter and more interesting tennis now than when he was ranked #3. If he can stay fit and schedule well he has a lot left to show.

Ljubo was excellent against Tsonga, and entirely deserved to win.
Ljubo was dross today. Simon choked horrendously, then choked some more. Set and 4-2 40-0 up, loses 7 games in a row. Just one faint whiff of pressure and he utterly collapses.
