Madrid R3: Djokovic def Seppi 6-4 6-4

Poor from both, neither wanted to really be there, some heavy wind. The massive shade covering the court.

Seppi just doesn't have the serve to keep up with these guys, brave effort saving 5 match points.

Seppi is Mug.
Djoko was lesser mug than Seppi today.

Seppi is one of those guys that can keep up with the top 4 throughout the match but just can't convert anything, abysmal.

Only if Seppi had a better serve...

Seppi gets so little respect, but think of this: can you imagine playing these guys with only his serve to rely on?

I rather like him, he's unbelievably predictable :-)

They made 38 UEs each, winners 19-12 to Djoko. Pretty messy stuff considering the single digit count of Nadal's errors

The court at the end of the 1st set was so dry, they were watering it and Djokovic's bag got wet.

Layhani played a blinder.

Good enough Nole. :yeah:

The quarterfinal opponent whoever it may be should be winnable. Then you should have some well-deserved rest. :D

The best thing about this match was the final point: About 30 shots!

This match would have been more fun if Seppi could convert those BPs ;)

Novak won first 14 points and from then on it looked like practice session for him more than anything else  ...

Well, Seppi brings a consistent level of play to the court even against the top4, he lacks a big weapon though, but I think because of that he doesn't rush into dumb errors nor does he try to do too much, he maximizes what he has got and plays the way he knows he can. Nothing more, nothing less. He just keeps playing his game.
Maybe one day he will get lucky and win one of those matches

Djokovic is there for the taking the whole week, but these guys can't defeat him.

Djokovic is still not taking this very seriously, losing his focus in a split second. I wonder if he is going to make large number of UEs when he gets serious.

Total crap, I think Djokovic considered tanking but decided against it.

His serve is too big of a liability. I can't help but admire his ability to compete at this level. He's like the Dementieva equivalent of men's tour, but his achievements are way more impressive considering how the men's game is so much more dependent on holding serve.

Rubbish match, there was really nothing between them except the extra bottle of Nole.

not sure if he abandoned the thought

i would attribute it to seppi's incompetence..

Seppi actually played better in the Belgrade match and that includes the last 2 sets.

Nole can't tank, when the King makes 30 unforced errors on the forehand and Seppi with the 2nd worst 2nd serve on tour.

Nole is mentally tired, I can just tell.
Not expecting too much from him in this tournament after playing so many matches these few weeks.
But he got the job done despite all the windy and dusty condition :yeah:

I think he is concentrating more on doubles this tournament.

Yes, I like Seppi too. I think he's always trying hard. I remember his matches with Roger at AO and with Andy at Rotterdam. He lost his sets 4-6 or 5-7 or 6-7 so it's pretty good effort :yeah:

You can tell this is a mug era when Fakervic is trying to tank his way out of a tournament yet still wins in straight sets.

For Seppi it's the same as Fed in Monte Carlo, good chances, failed to take them.

I wonder why Glennda is conspicuously absent from this thread - she's probably steaming senseless over Serbia's Đoković-Vemić kicking Melo's and Sa's Brazilian asses...

Or she's just trying to clean the sand from her vagina.

There's been a lot of weird errors, but still it was a good match. It's always nice to see both players serving up a good tennis. Nole played a lot of good matches this year on clay. Hope he'll keep up with the good play. I just hope he won't burn out at French open. He'll have a week of. That should be enough for him to get some rest.
