Ivo was awful.

However, Ivo's serve, an entirely separate entity, was ridiculously awesome. 26 aces, on clay. 89% first serve points won.

Impressive win for Blake imo. Ivo's serve was just beyond ridiculous, there was absolutely nothing to even look at most of the time.

Clay Genius vs The Master of Rallies

My eyes are still bleeding from the over-delightful experience I've witnessed.

Incidentally, anyone can think of a best-of-3 clay match with more aces? Isner got low 20s in Houston I think, but this surely must be a new record?

All-time I think is Ivo vs Nadal last Queens, managed 35. That's one of the fastest courts on tour though.

Well, Rogi next, no?

I bet Roger's happy its blake and not Ivo. Honest to God, he played him so many times in the past few years, its unbelievable. Rafa played him what? Once in Queens? Roger played Ivo for 7 or 8 times, all in recent two years.

Big serving form Ivo. Too bad he didn't win. Good win for Blake. He's finding his form at the time of year that he has nothing to defend.

Yup, was thinking the same thing. Fed lost to him in Cinci, and serving like this with the high bounce it becomes very much a coinflip regardless of who the opponent is. Doesn't even matter that Ivo can't hit a backhand halfway up the net most of the time.

I am very happy Blake won, indeed for the reason you mention. The first thing I thought when I saw the draw was, OH NO, not another Fed-Karlovic match!!!...

Well done James. :yeah:

Dr. Ivo... wow, all those aces. On clay. well it's obvious to me that Madrid is indeed fast clay.

More breaks of serve at the US Open than in Madrid - it's a big server's paradise, particularly the really tall guys (beware of Del Potro imo).

Indeed. DelPo could well do a good job here.
