No, it's not :) Gilles still caught between his old game and his new game, as if he read GM too often and didn't want to be labeled "pusher" anymore, goes for his shots way too early for his standards for a few months now, and just has too many ideas at the moment, which makes his basic game suffer. But he'll resurrect his tennis sooner than later.

Simon has turned from mental-giant into mental midget lately. Montanes is boring but definitely he isn't a choker. I don't know a single ATP match where he lost after wasting MP, maybe he's a record holder in this department because he has already played more than 150 ATP tournaments.

Expected result on clay...Simon looks like a gimp on this surface.

Very funny match. The first four times Monty broke Simon, he got broken straight back. Was serving for the set at *5-4, had 5 sp's, got broken then lost the set 7-5. Fought to break in the first set, only to get broken back again. Eventually took it 6-4. Simon 4-1* up in the third, and had one MP on Monty's serve at *5-6 but couldn't get it done. Alot of momentum shifts.

:) Good post. Simple better describes the MTF view of Simon's game. I agree with you completely -- he's a thoughtful player, but he's over-thinking and pushing too hard (to hit winners :D) of late.

Albert isn't that bad :o He's a very good player on clay. Simon just had a bad day and he hasn't been in particularly good form. Simon's worst loss was definately the one to Zverev in Rome.

Albert can't serve his way out of a paper bag and he was serving better than Simon!I would be embrassed :o hes another Spanish monnballer :(

His game is read like an open book, give him back an easy ball and let him go for the winner, no way you can lose to Simon then, the guy can't hit a winner to save his life...

Personally i don't think it's a choke by all means.

Remember i saw remarks of people who commented on Simon's match versus Fognini and stated that Gilles's game is still very bad.

I watched him versus Zvereve in Rome and should say that he hits too many errors and his confidence is low.

Here in a hard way consolidated 41 lead in the 3rd set but playing ugly he couldn't win. And actually the player who seems to be playing better actually won.

Montanes like a spaniard on clay fights for every point and he seems to be in a good form.

Generally Simon is indeed a better player but poor form contributed to his loss.

It should be mentioned that Simon's bad run continues since the beginning of the year. He played that bad even in Marseille but now he ran out of luck and gets losses like this.

It's a matter of time he will get into form.
