anyone else got some predictions?

Ozone
05-08-2009, 02:15 AM
I got some!

I think you are right with the Deacs making their 2nd sweet 16 appearance!! Another nice draw for them, although Northwestern in the first round wont be easy.

Top-seeded Cavs have an easy draw right to the quarters. 17-32 Minnesota should give 8 seed So. Cal a scare, perhaps an upset. I say in that quarter...

9 Stanford vs. 1 Virginia

I think Louisville will upset 13 Illinois, but the Dogs are too good in the tournament. 5 Tennessee and 12 Texas should be a very interesting matchup. I say the quarter goes...

4 Georgia vs. 12 Texas

I believe the Deacs will upset 11 Kentucky, but 6 Baylor will be too good (hopefully not). Ohio State (3) may look shaky against Alabama but they will face...

3 Ohio State vs. 6 Baylor

I think Florida will actually pound Miami and may have a good shot at UCLA. The Rebels should have it easy.

7 UCLA vs. 2 Mississippi

SF:

1 Virginia vs. 4 Georgia

3 Ohio State vs. 7 UCLA

Finals:

1 Virginia vs. 3 OSU

Winner:
Virginia

Goodness, anybody could take this one. I think Georgia and Texas match should be epic as well as Georgia and Virginia, the Dogs have a good chance of getting to the finals but I think UVA is too hungry to let it happen. I think UCLA's experience will pay off and they may beat Ohio State, but inconsistent OSU can be really good when everyone is on their game. Virginia- Ohio State matchup favors Viriginia, and that may be not as close as people think.

Btw, does anyone know how they determine the rankings for NCAA tennis (singles in particular, although I'm sure its the same for team and doubles). I was a little disappointed to see that Chase Buchanan, who joined Ohio State late in the season and is a top ITF junior player, did not make the field for the singles tournament. I wouldn't expect him to win but he's certainly capable of winning a few matches and competing with the top guys. Not a big deal, but it would have been a great experience for him.

Awesome Pras!! How do you know Cory? You a true Wake fan? Seen them play?

No, actually Cory was #1 in my region in the juniors. I played him in one of the first tournaments I ever played (it was ITF too... what was I thinking?) like 4 yrs ago and got destroyed... then 2007 I met him again when I went to watch the semis of the National HC tourney in Flushing (I played in it and got 2 rounds in but the quarters and beyond are just amazing tennis) and my dad started talking to him and brought up that I had played him... and he said he remembered me (maybe because it was his first ITF tournament too). We actually started talking a while. After he finished talking about Wake and being a junior in the upcoming year he started asking questions about how I was doing/where I was playing, etc. Just a very nice guy and very friendly. You just see too many players (even at that level) who are full of themselves and care only about themselves and their accomplishments. Cory is not one of those guys.

Here are mine...

#1 Virginia 4, #16 Florida State 1
#9 Stanford 4, #8 USC 3
#4 Georgia 4, #13 Illinois 1
#5 Tennessee 4, #12 Texas 3
Wake Forest 4, #6 Baylor 3
#3 Ohio State 4, Boise State 0
#7 UCLA 4, Miami 1
#15 Texas A&M 4, #2 Mississippi 3

Wow Tennessee-Texas could go either way, Ill be mad if Texas wins because I said that at the beginning and I changed at the last moment. Watch out for the home town crowd to spark A&M over the Rebels, who won against LSU 4-2 while A&M got 2 bagels. Stanford beat 17th ranked Pepperdine 4-1, so I think they will knock off the 8 seed. And I have faith in the Deacs, but my heart made that pick, not my brain.

Predictions:

That is where you are wrong my friend:)

2 years ago, The Georgia Bulldogs hosted the NCAA's. There was not just a stream of center court, but a live stream of all 6 courts with a manned scoreboard on them!!! This was amazing!! I could watch any match when they got tight at any point.

out_here_grindin

They had streams of all 6 yesterday as well. I kept it at the #1 match as the default but swithced whe another match went to a tiebreak. They also had live scores

Ozone

You may have gone on when the website was having trouble. there was a time when it was glitching. (I think during the Wake/Baylor match).

Ole Miss was impressive, depsite the highly pro Aggie crowd they won pretty well. But there wer close matches. I was impressed with Luckacs but not Koniecko so I think Baylor should take slot #1.

Koniecko is extremely unimpressive, but inside his opponents head and on the scoreboard is where he gets it done. Consistent guy, true grinder.

Rain has soaked the courts and only allowed the noon matches to just barely get the dubs points in and start the singles matches.

HOLY PETE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Virginia really sucks in crunch time, they just play cupcakes all year and get screwed when they face good competition. USC beat Stanford easily who beat #17 Pepperdine, so USC has a good shot of winning the whole thing!!

Texas is very talented and I predicted them for an early upset of Tennessee. Georgia has won shaky mathes all tournament, so it was almost a predictable upset.

Did you watch any of this ohg?? Any close USC-Virginia mathes?

out_here_grindin
05-17-2009, 06:55 PM
yeah I watched quite a bit of both matches. Farah dominated Inglot at #1 singles 6-1, 6-3. The last match was deided in a 3rd set. But if they would have played it out USC would have won 6-1, so it really wasn't too close.

3-3 between Ole Miss and UCLA and at the deicing match on court 6, tensions are sky high. Ole Miss fans are actually saying "Suck that" to the UCLA player after points because of a controversial decision. i was pulling for Ole Miss at the start but their own fans have turned me against them. Go Bruins

Ohio State beat Baylor 4-1 earlier

yeah and some of the matches were blowouts. one was 6-1, 6-0 (court 3)and another 6-0, 6-2 (court 5) to OSU.

Lucaks lead Koniecko 6-3, 3-4 when it was disbanded.

Yeah. ohio State should dominate 1,2,3 vs UCLA. UCLA must win doubles and 4-6, but that is unlikely. OSU beat UCLA 4-0 earlier this year.

So cal should bet Texas but it should be a closer match. Like 4-2

Only the womens dubs matches are the other scores being kept. All the singles matches you see, for example Gullickson vs. Cecil actually means Koniecko (OSU) def. Brooklyn (UCLA) 61 76, same for other 2 singles matches. Its all coming down to #3, where UCLA leads 3-2 in the 3rd

USC vs Ohio State for the title.

my predictions:

USC takes the doubles point
Koniecko def. Farah at #1 (will be close though, Farah is good)
Moneke def. Johnson (Both players have been on fire at the NCAA's but Moneke is just way to strong of a #2 player.)
Ohio state wins 3
USC should take 4 and 5

that makes it 3-3 and the swing matches are 4-6

There were 2 big upsets today.

Cubas (South Carolina) def. 4 Lukacs (Baylor) 2-6 6-4 6-4
Rosa (Rice) def. 8 Farah (USC) 7-5 7-6(6)

Brugues looked very good and Nedovysevov did not. Koniecko was impressive.

JP Smith def. Aubone 6-3 6-1, may have been the most impressive win.

Yep, but Britton is especially worth taking note of. I never got to see him play before or throughout his run at the USO and let me say, man does he have potential. He can really play. You have to keep in mind that he is beating guys that are 4 or 5 years older than him.

Round of 16 results:

(1) Brugues (Tulsa) def. Altmann (Pepperdine) 7-6(3) 6-3
(15) Strobe (Arkansas) def. (2) Nedovysesov (Ok State) 6-7 6-4 6-2
(5) Agostinelli (Kentucky) def. Johnson (USC) 6-4 6-1
Singh (Virginia) def. (6) Smith (Tennessee) 6-4 7-5
(16) Pollock (Texas A&M) def. Jackson (San Diego) 4-6 6-3 6-4
(9) Moneke (Ohio State) def. Weinacker (NC State) 4-6 6-1 6-4
Clayton (Stanford) def. (12) Schnugg (Georgia) 6-4 7-6(4)
Britton (Ole Miss) def. Rosa (Rice) 6-3 6-4
