The race is how the player is doing this year alone. It is often more important to the players since each season is a new season. But, the rankings are what most people, especially the general media talk about. And the two usually do sync up by the end of the year. Also, it used to be what the Masters Cup was based upon, which made it even more important to the players, but I believe the ATP isn't using it anymore. Not sure though.

Official, ATP isn't using the race anymore. It's confusing, especially in the first month or two where below 50 players won an MM tournament and they are number 1. :tape: ATP hasn't really promote it for the last 2 years unless it's after USO and the race to TMC heat up.

It's not that difficult for individual sites to update the table as you just add up the points. But I think the rules for 0 points 1000 and 500 still apply.

And there's no hope for a tired Nadal in Rome :lol: Nalbandian withdrew and Nadal has a day off in the middle of the tournament. Nice.

I don't think Madrid will be that much different. The city is 667 m (2,188 ft) above sealevel. Nadal grows up by the sea, right? The air pressure is lower and thus air is thinner. People may find it more difficult to breath in higher altitude because of this. Also, the ball will travel thru the air faster.

On the other hand, Paris is more or less at sealevel.

I grow up by the sea and then I moved to Calgary which is about 1000m above sea level. I didn't feel any difference while I exercised there. But for visiting hockey teams, some say it's difficult to play in Calgary because of the altitude. They need lots of oxygen though :lol:

For normal person, I don't really think there's any difference but may be for athlete, there is. I only noticed the diffference in altitude when I visited Whistlers Mountains in Jasper National Park of Canada. The tram took me to 2277m above sea level and I tried to hike on a trail (pretty steep) to the summit which is more than 3300m above sea level. I hiked for about 5 minutes and had to call it quit because I could not breath at all. :p

Maybe Nole's mountain training will finally pay off in Madrid :lol:

So Nole's draw here looks much better than in MC. No Spanish Armada to derail him. Though Wawa is in his quarter again as is Delpo and Robredo. I see no reason why he can't get to SFs and even finals :shrug: Depends on Roger's form though. Ferrer might come out of RF's quarter but I aint putting any money on Ferrer :lol:

Murray's got a cupcake draw too. Gonzalez and Kolya could be problems for him...maybe. But Murray is good at figuring out ways to win against pretty much everyone.

2R against Montanes or Starace. 3R most likey against Robredo, who is a good claycourter and a hard opponent, but Nole has a good record against him, including a win the one time they played on clay. For the QF I'm going to go with Wawrinka since Del Potro is pretty unproven on clay and wasn't impressive in Monte Carlo, though Rome may suit his game more. Federer in the SFs, though who knows what Federer will do here. He's becoming hard to predict anymore. Next best on clay would be Ferrer, who is difficult for Nole on clay. So the draw definitely has some tricky opponents but could be much worse IMO. :yeah:

Oh no, he can handle Karlovic on HC even when he is playing not so well, so I am sure he can handle him on clay. I think... :unsure: :rolls:

Well, to be honest, I seriously wish he doesn't make it to the semis. Because I seriously doubt Nole will lose before the semis... and if he doesn't have to face him in the semis, he'll make it to the final.

There a huge differenco for Nole to play Fed or Nadal on clay. When he plays Rafa, he has nothing to lose, he gives his very best... against Roger, I am afraid he will feel the pressure. Anyway, with a draw like this Nole, you should make it to the final. :hug:

On Roger's quarter, he should not have any problem with Karlovic. When Ivo is playing well on hard court, Roger handles him well. Now we have a not in shape Karlovic on clay court. Next round will likely be Stepanek who defeated Roger in Rome last year. Will he be able to repeat the performance again this year? It's possible. Ferrer will likely be another QFist from this quarter although I much prefer Gilles :awww:

As this is his defending tournament (I want to ignore it but it's true. :tape:) every match will be a challenge for him even with that relatively not bad draw. (Definitely not easy, I don't like Robredo and Safin are in his quater. :( Wawrinka or Del Pony :unsure:) Also Serbian Open could distract him a bit. So I'm trying not to go far too soon. ;) I can see he has a good chance here but seriously he needs to focus on his game and think match by match. :)

If this had been a Lotto draw they might have called in the adjudicator because from the third round onwards, Andy's opponents (based on seeding) are pretty much the same as in Monte Carlo: Cilic, Davydenko, Rafa.

Defending Champion Novak Djokovic finds himself in the bottom half of the draw, but whilst the prospect of a semi-final with Roger Federer might seem more agreeable, he faces the prospect of a quarter-final against Juan Martin Del Potro or even Stan Wawrinka. Both could upset the Djoko apple cart.

To be honest i'm not a fan. i've hated his game from day one he always seemed like such a plug just tipping the ball back until the other player began to lose all confidence and started blasting them here there and everywhere and if i hear one more word about his 400m runs in miami.for me i think its much more important to have an attractive but effective game.if i wanted to watch somebody doing 1000m runs i'd switch on athletics.Don't get me started on his personality which is as dull as ditchwater:o. although he himself hasn't done or said anything really irritating for a while now i'll never warm to him.the british media used to really piss me off at the start but now i just find it hilarious.my sister and i are nuts nole fans but we kind of have this running joke that andy is our favourite player.Whenever he is playing we say(excitedly)"Get Your Union Jack Out AAANDY"S ON"(the three a's are to stress the way half the posh english commentators pronounce his name)

Talking how tall Nole is. The pic was last year in IW. I was a step away from Nole when I took this pic and you can see from the pic that I had to really tilted my head to get the head shot. :p

When I got my photo with Nole I had to stand on my tip-toes and the top of my head is only at his shoulders. And yes, his legs do go on and on and on :inlove:

Went to se Nole practice for an hour this afternoon - with Juan Martin del Potro. Marian, Miljan :hearts: and the new guy are all with him. As I said on the other thread - Miljan is more physio than Fitness Trainer, so he is still around - so no one needs to worry about me. The guy who went was Ronan - the dark-haired guy who I met first in Madrid last year.
Practice session was quite intense - loads and loads of drop shots :eek: Almost none of which were successful :o Nole seemed quite distracted at first, and not as jolly as usual on the Practice Court, - but he chilled out a bit towards the end, and did some funny stuff like running to the net to make a smash, and somehow turning it into a very balletic drop shot :tape: At the end he walked into the crowds and spent a long time signing for all the kids - he is a truly nice guy and has time for everyone :hearts: I've been talking to Miljan lots so - needless to say - this one little Physio Fangirl is very happy :D

Briefly onto other things - watched Viktor Troicki play - he won easily - and was shocked (though in a nice way) that Janko :inlove: recognised me, came over, gave me a :kiss: and sat and chatted to me - another true star and a lovely guy - not to mention handsome :drool:

Watched Misha Youzhny play a bit but the wind is dreadful and i was getting cold and tired :yawn: so gave tennis a bit of a break for a bit.

Random thoughts ..........

1) Why do drivers here act like they're Formula 1 drivers instead of in the middle of a crowded city? they :unsure: me :awww:
2) Why do ALL Italians shout when talking quietly would suffice? :spit:
3) Have Italian met never seen a natural blonde before? :rolleyes:

Yes, Herdwick is right - chances of our beloved getting on court are pretty remote as I look out of the window at the teeming rain. Would it be selfish of me to say I prefer tomorrow afternoon anyway? :o Night matches are a pain - not to mention quite chilly sitting there in damp seats for hours.

You don't have to worry about me though ;) Staying in a Players' Hotel has many advantages - not the least that you don't have to go and get wet and miserable at the venue waiting for a match, when you can sit here in comfort, and just make your way to the venue when the nice people on the Plsyers' Reception Desk tell you the most up-to-date weather forecast, and when play will really start. Not to mention, of course, the wonders of seeing our boys drinking coffee,playing cards, tripping over each other at breakfast, and generally being "normal" nice people and not "stars". Btw - I am now officially :inlove: with SB - sorry Herdwick :o He lent me an umbrella when I needed to run across the road to the ATM to get some cash. What a true star :inlove:

Only match I'm that bothered about apart from Nole is Janko (due second on),- and as he is currently playing cards in the lobby wearing a particularly hideous orange sweatshirt, - then I think it's safe to say I won't be going to Foro Italico until he does.

They seem to think there will be some play today - maybe starting at around 3.00pm CET but whether that means Novak will stay as the unchanged night match (like they do in The States), - or whether they will change everything around, no decision has been made as yet. If I get another chance for Internet access later I wll try and let you know.

And - yes Herdwick- you are probably right - they wouldn't leave me outside shiveriing - there is always room in the Players' Lounge for one more (especially if they are blonde and female :o - did I really say that?) :o

Saw the Safin/Robredo match before rain stopped play. I haven't seen Safin played like that for a very long time. Crisp, clean hitting with pace and no stupid UEs.
