Also, it used to be what the Masters Cup was based upon, which made it even more important to the players, but I believe the ATP isn't using it anymore. Not sure though. Official, ATP isn't using the race anymore. It's confusing, especially in the first month or two where below 50 players won an MM tournament and they are number 1. :tape: ATP hasn't really promote it for the last 2 years unless it's after USO and the race to TMC heat up. It's not that difficult for individual sites to update the table as you just add up the points. But I think the rules for 0 points 1000 and 500 still apply. WTF? can you explain me why? :rolls: You're a medical student and don't understand? :p I don't think Madrid will be that much different. The city is 667 m (2,188 ft) above sealevel. Nadal grows up by the sea, right? The air pressure is lower and thus air is thinner. People may find it more difficult to breath in higher altitude because of this. Also, the ball will travel thru the air faster. On the other hand, Paris is more or less at sealevel. I grow up by the sea and then I moved to Calgary which is about 1000m above sea level. I didn't feel any difference while I exercised there. But for visiting hockey teams, some say it's difficult to play in Calgary because of the altitude. They need lots of oxygen though  For normal person, I don't really think there's any difference but may be for athlete, there is. I only noticed the diffference in altitude when I visited Whistlers Mountains in Jasper National Park of Canada. The tram took me to 2277m above sea level and I tried to hike on a trail (pretty steep) to the summit which is more than 3300m above sea level. So Nole's draw here looks much better than in MC. No Spanish Armada to derail him. Though Wawa is in his quarter again as is Delpo and Robredo. I see no reason why he can't get to SFs and even finals  Depends on Roger's form though. Ferrer might come out of RF's quarter but I aint putting any money on Ferrer  Murray's got a cupcake draw too. Gonzalez and Kolya could be problems for him...maybe. But Murray is good at figuring out ways to win against pretty much everyone. Nadal's biggest challenges could be Tsonga or Nando. I wouldnt mind seeing either of them playing Nadal in the QFs. A-Rod must be having too much fun on his honeymoon to bother playing Masters tennis :yeah: Stephie Cesc 04-25-2009, 12:12 PM Nole's draw is okay  I think he can at least make it to the SF :banana: Ajde Nole :bounce::bounce: arm 04-25-2009, 12:26 PM Rogers side :woohoo: Herdwick :nerner: arm 04-25-2009, 12:29 PM And this time Kolya is going to beat Murray in the quarters! :bounce: arm 04-25-2009, 12:29 PM I :inlove: this draw. :hearts: kalisita 04-25-2009, 12:35 PM Not a bad draw on paper. :) 2R against Montanes or Starace. 3R most likey against Robredo, who is a good claycourter and a hard opponent, but Nole has a good record against him, including a win the one time they played on clay. For the QF I'm going to go with Wawrinka since Del Potro is pretty unproven on clay and wasn't impressive in Monte Carlo, though Rome may suit his game more. Federer in the SFs, though who knows what Federer will do here. He's becoming hard to predict anymore. Next best on clay would be Ferrer, who is difficult for Nole on clay. So the draw definitely has some tricky opponents but could be much worse IMO. :yeah: Ajde Nole! :rocker2: arm 04-25-2009, 12:40 PM I am not sure Fed can make it to the final. Stepanek and Ferrer. :awww: kalisita 04-25-2009, 12:57 PM I know. It's hard to judge what Federer will do nowadays. Who knows if he can get past Karlovic even? But I usually give him the benefit of doubt. And he really hasn't had bad results this year, AO final and SFs of 2 MS events, but his losses have been bad ones. arm 04-25-2009, 01:03 PM I know. It's hard to judge what Federer will do nowadays. Who knows if he can get past Karlovic even? But I usually give him the benefit of doubt. And he really hasn't had bad results this year, AO final and SFs of 2 MS events, but his losses have been bad ones. Oh no, he can handle Karlovic on HC even when he is playing not so well, so I am sure he can handle him on clay. I think... :rolls: Well, to be honest, I seriously wish he doesn't make it to the semis. Because I seriously doubt Nole will lose before the semis... and if he doesn't have to face him in the semis, he'll make it to the final. There a huge differenco for Nole to play Fed or Nadal on clay. When he plays Rafa, he has nothing to lose, he gives his very best... against Roger, I am afraid he will feel the pressure. Anyway, with a draw like this Nole, you should make it to the final. Lee 04-25-2009, 02:35 PM His side of draw is definitely much better than the top half. Running:Free 04-25-2009, 02:42 PM If Nole keeps his head in it, there's a good chance of making it to next Saturday/Sunday. Ajde :rocker2: Lee 04-25-2009, 02:53 PM On Roger's quarter, he should not have any problem with Karlovic. When Ivo is playing well on hard court, Roger handles him well. Now we have a not in shape Karlovic on clay court. Next round will likely be Stepanek who defeated Roger in Rome last year. Will he be able to repeat the performance again this year? It's possible. Ferrer will likely be another QFist from this quarter although I much prefer Gilles :awww: shuhrat 04-25-2009, 02:53 PM As this is his defending tournament (I want to ignore it but it's true. :tape:) every match will be a challenge for him even with that relatively not bad draw. (Definitely not easy, I don't like Robredo and Safin are in his quater. :( Wawrinka or Del Pony ) Also Serbian Open could distract him a bit. So I'm trying not to go far too soon. ;) I can see he has a good chance here but seriously he needs to focus on his game and think match by match. :) Ajde Nole!! Lee 04-25-2009, 02:57 PM First clay court appearance for Tsonga and I doubt he will go far. Very likely a Verdasco/Nadal QF and Nando dutifully lose the match. Davydenko will have a tough match vs either Chucho/Janko/Gonzo then a QF faceoff vs Murray. I think this will be the most interesting QF. Running:Free 04-25-2009, 02:57 PM Nadal's biggest challenges could be Tsonga or Nando. I wouldnt mind seeing either of them playing Nadal in the QFs. Jo is awful on clay :tape: And Nando didn't do much better last year at the FO against Rafa (QF, I think it was.) Lee, I don't think Gilles will make it far. If Fognini can put up a repeat of his performance against Murray from last week, he'll have a tough time. Arrogant and whiny pr*ck  I really hope he gets knocked out early Here's the excerpt from Murray's site: The draw for the Rome Masters 1000 tournament has once again thrown up the prospect of a semi-final clash with World No. 1 Rafael Nadal. View draw in full If this had been a Lotto draw they might have called in the adjudicator because from the third round onwards, Andy's opponents (based on seeding) are pretty much the same as in Monte Carlo: Cilic, Davydenko, Rafa. Defending Champion Novak Djokovic finds himself in the bottom half of the draw, but whilst the prospect of a semi-final with Roger Federer might seem more agreeable, he faces the prospect of a quarter-final against Juan Martin Del Potro or even Stan Wawrinka. Both could upset the Djoko apple cart. And there's plenty resting on this tournament for the Serb who's World No. 3 spot hangs by a thread. He's defending final points, whilst Andy defends just 70 after exiting at the second round stage last year. Andy's Route to Final (based on seeding) Rnd 1: Bye Rnd 2: Kiefer or qualifier Rnd 3: Cilic QF: Davydenko SF: Rafa Nadal Final: Federer or Djokovic I love that they think the fact he only is defending 70 points is something to cheer about. It just means Murray SUCKED last year. P.S. To be honest i'm not a fan. i've hated his game from day one he always seemed like such a plug just tipping the ball back until the other player began to lose all confidence and started blasting them here there and everywhere and if i hear one more word about his 400m runs in miami.for me i think its much more important to have an attractive but effective game.if i wanted to watch somebody doing 1000m runs i'd switch on athletics.Don't get me started on his personality which is as dull as ditchwater:o. although he himself hasn't done or said anything really irritating for a while now i'll never warm to him.the british media used to really piss me off at the start but now i just find it hilarious.my sister and i are nuts nole fans but we kind of have this running joke that andy is our favourite player.Whenever he is playing we say(excitedly)"Get Your Union Jack Out AAANDY"S ON"(the three a's are to stress the way half the posh english commentators pronounce his name) Running:Free 04-25-2009, 05:53 PM Rome - As It Happened (http://www.internazionalibnlditalia.it/1/PopNews.asp?LNG=EN&IDNews=456) 7.07 PM - Off the court, I took a stroll past the gym. Novak was in there, and he certainly wasn’t Djoking! Pounding away on a treadmill, he was, with a tan to die for as well (all that time spent on court, I suppose). He’s also incredibly tall when you see him on a treadmill – looked like a giant as your humble 1.78m scribe walked past him. Centre Court (or Stadio Pietrangeli, to give it its Sunday name) will see Fognini – Lopez, Seppi – Djokovic, Bolelli – Murray and Starace - Federer all playing one-set exhibitions, while on No1 court, we’ll have Bracciali – Robredo, Volandri – Safin and Cipolla – Del Potro. Marian, Miljan :hearts: and the new guy are all with him. As I said on the other thread - Miljan is more physio than Fitness Trainer, so he is still around - so no one needs to worry about me. The guy who went was Ronan - the dark-haired guy who I met first in Madrid last year. Practice session was quite intense - loads and loads of drop shots  Almost none of which were successful :o Nole seemed quite distracted at first, and not as jolly as usual on the Practice Court, - but he chilled out a bit towards the end, and did some funny stuff like running to the net to make a smash, and somehow turning it into a very balletic drop shot :tape: At the end he walked into the crowds and spent a long time signing for all the kids - he is a truly nice guy and has time for everyone :hearts: I've been talking to Miljan lots so - needless to say - this one little Physio Fangirl is very happy :D Briefly onto other things - watched Viktor Troicki play - he won easily - and was shocked (though in a nice way) that Janko :inlove: recognised me, came over, gave me a  and sat and chatted to me - another true star and a lovely guy - not to mention handsome  Watched Misha Youzhny play a bit but the wind is dreadful and i was getting cold and tired  so gave tennis a bit of a break for a bit. Random thoughts .......... 1) Why do drivers here act like they're Formula 1 drivers instead of in the middle of a crowded city? they  me :awww: 2) Why do ALL Italians shout when talking quietly would suffice? :spit: 3) Have Italian met never seen a natural blonde before? 4) Nole is the nicest guy I have ever met on the ATP players tour :D 5) I am :inlove: with Miljan :inlove: Bye for now from windy Rome  shuhrat 04-27-2009, 02:30 PM Practice session was quite intense - loads and loads of drop shots  Almost none of which were successful :o :haha::haha: We have to endure to see his tons of DSOD in Rome? :sobbing: 4) Nole is the nicest guy I have ever met on the ATP players tour :D:worship: See you soon, Rosie! :wavey: Masha91 04-27-2009, 02:32 PM Excellent report Rose, you seem to be having a great time. Bye for now from windy Rome   Lee 04-27-2009, 04:48 PM Nole will play Montanes in his first match. Montanes defeated Starace 7-6, 6-4 today. H2H is 2-0 favour Nole. Both on clay. But Montañes is always dangerous on clay so Nole has to beware. tmv 04-27-2009, 06:11 PM Rosie thanks for the report . And regarding drop shots, maybe we can make here a petition against Nole using them, and Rosie could be so kind to pass it to him ;). Lee 04-27-2009, 08:08 PM Watching the Montanes/Starace match. Terrible condition as it's very windy. Not very good quality match and poor Starace had to ask for trainers to clean his eyes because of sand blown into them. :tape: arm 04-27-2009, 09:12 PM Rosie!!!!!!!!! So glad your enjoying your time in Rome. Hope you get to cheer for our boy tomorrow. :smooch kalisita 04-27-2009, 09:25 PM Nole has the night match tomorrow. Not before 8:30 pm local time. Thanks for the great report. :yeah:  about the successive amount of dropshots. Good luck Novak, remember to bring your umbrella to the courts with you just in case. ;) Racquets are entirely optional. ellewoods 04-28-2009, 02:41 AM I won't be able to watch his match as it will be 4.30am here and while I would usually wake up for it, I have an exam tomorrow. Ajde Nole for today! Rosie, glad you're having a blast in Rome. Can't wait to hear more  Herdwick 04-28-2009, 07:09 AM Hmmm - not sure it's worth looking forward to tonight's match - forecast suggests he may not even get on court. Rosie - thanks for the report; sounds like you have seared yourself into Serbian hearts. :awww: Know what you mean about the Italians - in MC they seemed to outnumber the French spectators by about 2-1. Very nice jolly souls one and all but always full volume and no - they never seem to shut up. Hope you don't get too wet but no doubt your Serbian friends will get you into the players' lounge if the weather's too bad.:D Look forward to hearing more gossip. Have fun. *Ljubica* 04-28-2009, 10:10 AM Good morning from an EXTREMELY wet Rome  Yes, Herdwick is right - chances of our beloved getting on court are pretty remote as I look out of the window at the teeming rain. Would it be selfish of me to say I prefer tomorrow afternoon anyway? :o Night matches are a pain - not to mention quite chilly sitting there in damp seats for hours. You don't have to worry about me though ;) Staying in a Players' Hotel has many advantages - not the least that you don't have to go and get wet and miserable at the venue waiting for a match, when you can sit here in comfort, and just make your way to the venue when the nice people on the Plsyers' Reception Desk tell you the most up-to-date weather forecast, and when play will really start. Not to mention, of course, the wonders of seeing our boys drinking coffee, playing cards, tripping over each other at breakfast, and generally being "normal" nice people and not "stars". Btw - I am now officially :inlove: with SB - sorry Herdwick :o He lent me an umbrella when I needed to run across the road to the ATM to get some cash. What a true star :inlove: Only match I'm that bothered about apart from Nole is Janko (due second on),- and as he is currently playing cards in the lobby wearing a particularly hideous orange sweatshirt, - then I think it's safe to say I won't be going to Foro Italico until he does. They seem to think there will be some play today - maybe starting at around 3.00pm CET but whether that means Novak will stay as the unchanged night match (like they do in The States), - or whether they will change everything around, no decision has been made as yet. If I get another chance for Internet access later I wll try and let you know. And - yes Herdwick- you are probably right - they wouldn't leave me outside shiveriing - there is always room in the Players' Lounge for one more (especially if they are blonde and female :o - did I really say that?) :o OK - back to my tea and apple cake  and a rivetting conversation with Ross Hutchins on tennis in Scotland :tape: Love you all  ellen_ 04-28-2009, 11:43 AM Rose  I feel your pain, and I'll probably feel it again next week :explode:. I'm pretty sure we'll be all alone in Munich because everyone is still in Rome :banghead:. Of course SB is a nice guy. Such a teddy bear  Thanks for the update :wavey: *Ljubica* 04-28-2009, 11:50 AM Thanks Ellen  But - honestly - I feel no pain :D I'm perfectly happy here with Janko and Miljan :o And JWT :tape: Anyway - they've just told players that play should resume "within the hour" so I'm going to head off down there and see what's happening for an hour or so. If it starts pouring again I'll come back and wait for Nole's match tonight. No point in hanging around outside in the cold when you have somewhere better to be :p Talk to you later I'm sure  And if I don't see you again on here before you leave, have a wonderful time in Munich. Herdwick 04-28-2009, 11:58 AM :wavey: Certainly sounds as though you might have considerably more fun if they don't get on court  Remember - beauty promises much, but gives little however opportunities are never lost because someone will take the one you miss.:rolls: Spare a thought for those of us who are chained to a desk and who cheered at the prospect of the night match though. I am firmly resolved to conquer my dislike of the SB. I was reading up on him in the French media and everything suggests he is sweet, modest and devotes his life to acts of chivalry as described. So please tell him next time you see him if he cuts down the crowd orchestration and allows Nole to draw level in the H2H we will be in business  Running:Free 04-28-2009, 12:25 PM Btw - I am now officially :inlove: with SB - sorry Herdwick :o He lent me an umbrella when I needed to run across the road to the ATM to get some cash. Ajmo! :rocker2: ellewoods 04-28-2009, 01:21 PM Just dropping in to say good luck to Nole but now it seems he may not even make it onto court? I just turned on the TV a moment ago and they were showing Robredo/Safin so hopefully he gets to play but tomorrow's much better for me  But ajde Nole :rocker2: Rosie, you sound like you are having a blast!
