Nice, MTF might get the battle they wanted between Nalby and Rafa on clay

I look forward to it :D

That is the worst possible draw JCF could have hoped for. All he needed to do was avoid Nadal's quarter. He'll never get an SE for Rome now.

Fat Dave will lose to Ferrero in the second round... There are some really good matches in the first round... Good tournament this one...

Not so bad for Davydenko and Andreev. Youzhny is in such a bad form that draw does not matter

Nice, some very interesting matches could be seen if the seeds and the rest do justice to their ranking.

Gasquet - Nadal

Fererro - Nalbandian

A potential Nalbandian - Nadal quarter final. I do look forward to this one if it does materialize. :D

I'm going to move this to the tournament forum - only the Slams and the 1000s get tournament draw discussion in GM otherwise the place would get way too cluttered with tournament draws from every event.

Jimnik

A Nadal-Mugro QF is more likely. He owns both Ferrero and Nalbandian on clay.

Almagro needs a decent result on the clay, though he has been eating too many empanadas.

In his half: Gasquet, then Nalbandian; followed by either Davydenko or Wawrinka (both of them rather hot on clay right now).

He seems to be getting the tougher side of the draw every time, but hey.

As I said in a different post, if he's to win he needs to find his 2008 clay form. His current form reminds me of Nadal from 2/3 ago: returning short / placing the ball short allowing the opponent to hit a winner of off it.

Uncle Toni must have spotted that, no?

It is his first tournament on clay , i am sure Nadal will win all on clay this year , because he is playing bad like you say and didnt lose a set.

Surely he's not his best. But man, he's still producing ridiculously good shots when in danger (e.g. against Murray in 2nd set) and hasn't lost a set. He'll play into the clay season with improving form, I'm sure of that.

Of course he is not at his best yet. But the fact that he nevertheless hasn't lost a set yet is SCARY!!!

with the competition he faces these days, there is noch such thing like a testing draw for Rafa on clay
if he loses, it's due to injury or fatigue like vs. Ferrero

nkhera1
04-19-2009, 09:01 AM
He did get a rather brutal draw and if he were playing his best he should be able to get through it. However he isn't and Nalbandian has given Nadal fits in the past while Davydenko has pushed Nadal on clay. He will need to be playing better to get past those two. Not to mention he will have a tough matchup probably against Verdasco or Ferrer who pushed him to 3 sets here last year. For a 500 this is a pretty tough draw.

Yeah, definetly a tougher draw for a non AMS/Grand Slam. Gasquet is complete shit and Nadal could beat him with a blind fold but definetly nothing easy with Davydenko or Wawrinka. Nadal probably would be better served to miss Barcelona though and prepare for Madrid and Rome. I doubt he can really be at his best for all 4 of those tourneys including Roland Garros.

He wasnt going to anyway for a couple of other reasons.

1 - He's not good
2 - Barcelona is a lower tournament than Rome.

1. Good enough to reach world #1.
2. Doesn't matter. There's one SE spot available for Rome. But I guess you didn't bother checking the entry list.
