i didn't watch much of Nadia's performances as I was still a kid at that time, now thanks for you-tube, i was able to watch more of her performances, she is just very graceful and elegant, and her motions are like a poem:worship:, but however I also think Olga Korbut is very good, especially on uneven bar, i watched the following youtube many times and am still stunned at her performances, even it was happened 36 years ago, still so great:bowdown:, and her smile warms my heart, though she is not as pretty as Nadia, but i like her a little bit more :hearts:

not only... rafa has been in the very top players for way longer than Jankovic. he's won a lot more big titles than her. he and federer have been the best by far for years now (although now, with nole and andy you don't know what's going to happen) while the women's no 1 keeps changing. to be honest there is no real no 1 in women's tennis for me right now.
but of course the charisma plays a big role too

The problem is also somewhere else: the system for buy tickets and double sessions. Many French people wanted to see Nadal and thought that he would be scheduled by night session due to his statut of Number One. And he has played to the day session. So, to see him, people bought their ticket , in "black, in the street, very expensive ". And no chance for them, renunciation of Nadal and they were disappointing.

Having said that, a minority of people are idiot, they know nothing about the tennis and just come to let off stream.
Regrettably, they make more noise than the true fans. It is the back of medal when we want the democratization of the tennis.

Finally, I can say : I went every day to Bercy, I can assure that the girls are always crazy about Nadal and they very well understood its renunciation.

I didn't mean every tennis players but in the past (and in the present too) there were a pair or three players who acted pretty bad against the crowd who was booing them for some reasons, Berdych is one of them, or Gaudio as well f.e.
I always found Rafa very polite with everyone: crowd, press, fans, his 'collegues' and that's quite rare between pros athletes. Am I wrong? Sorry for my awful english! ;)

World’s number one tennis player to promote islands

Mallorcan tennis ace Rafael Nadal has secured a six million euro agreement with the Tourism Ministry. The deal comes after months of negotiations and is aimed at boosting the islands’ sagging tourism numbers in the face of economic slowdown.

Speaking at a press conference alongside the young tennis star, tourism minister Miquel Nadal said “The best tennis player in the world will promote the best tourist destination in Europe.” The Tourism Ministry aims to achieve the same number of visitors in 2009 to Mallorca, Ibiza and Minorca as 2008.

Nadal’s first task was to record a television commercial, which he did atop a plateau in Son Castello. The commercial will be targeted at UK, German and Spanish tourists in 2009. Ibatur has reportedly already spent three million euros securing advertising slots on national networks for the ad.

Nadal will receive two million euros a year for the 2009, 2010 and 2011, whereupon the contract will expire. “I am proud to represent Balearics tourism, which is the economic engine of the islands,” he said. “I travel a lot and see a lot of places and that’s why I can confirm that you can do anything in these islands – except, perhaps, skiing.”

Rafa looks younger than Murray in the ceremony pics. or maybe it's just me. Nice to see them both in a single trophy ceremony pic though. :)

i agree, but maybe that's the reason why he ditched the old look, 'cos nobody bought that kind of outfit :scared:, so nike decided to no longer produce them (especially the pirate pants)

well, that's just my theory :p

It's kind of strange to see him without his usual style, when i first saw him on Eurosport news, i was like 'is that Nadal??'
Anyways, with or without the sleeveless and the pirate pants, he's still one of my favorites :D

There is also another photo circulating on some blogs showing off Rafa's half naked ass while changing on board a boat during his vacation. hehe...:drool:



I read that he plans to go straight to Melbourne to have the whole week to practice and get used to the courts/climate etc. So I presumed he would have left the morning after his doubles victory.
