Congratulations Carlos
His draw is open, I hope he'll take his chance to go far, he can do it, vamos :bounce:

Next : Florent Serra
Possible but not easy
The match should be on a main court. I have a ticket for the Lenglen tomorrow. Don't like this court, because most of the time, it's not a good court for Carlos, so I hope he'll play on a smaller one

Sorry I couldn't be with you all cheering but Carlos was playing at 3:00 in the morning here. But he won without me so there you go. I knew he would. Just took him a bit to warm up.
I thought the match was stopped due to rain! I can't believe a major tournament and they don't have lights! IW plays well into the night, 11-12 o'clock~ as does the uso. Wow that is interesting. And we know Carlos prefers night matches... he was probably still asleep when he got on the court! lol. Well on to round two with Serra i guess.

C'mon Rosie, you don't stay up for Carlos (I'm joking) Well, sometimes, it's hard to stay up for me especially during the OZ Open. We'll forgive you

About the lights in Paris, yes, it's strange but it's like that. They want to renovate some stuff in the stadium, but they don't plan to make lights, or a cover stadium (maybe they'll start one in 2009). Well, in Roland-Garros, they suspend the game around 9.30 pm.

have you guys checked out ATP website and Rafa's blog. He calls Moya "Moyini"! I love it! So endearing... They want to go watch the formula one race but don't know if they will have the time. Also he talks about when they are all staying in the same hotel they play soccer on play station with Nalby/Moya v. Rafa/Ferrer. Doubles cute. Best of 5 sets... the losers have to do something stupid... boys with be boys, Yes? Hmmmmmmm, Moya not with Flavia? Odd?

I could of stayed up and then slept all day but then my husband would think I'm crazier than he already does. It's a fine balance when you are married with kids! Many times I tivo and then watch when no one is home. It's better that way.
PS I bet on Rafa for the Hamburg finals with my daughter's coach. LOST. He doesn't think Rafa will make it to the finals in RG. He's too tired, too much tennis. We will see maybe Moya.

Ive read some interviews with Flavia and when Carlos is playing with the Playstation and the other chicos, she's staying out of their way  because they go :cuckoo: at times :haha:and she pretends she "doesnt know them" then.

"Moyini" just an endearing name. Just a personal nickname that Rafa has tagged to Carlos.
They are very very close according to Carlos in many interviews when asked about Rafa and vice versa.
And yes Carlita, if so Flavia is very smart! There is probably some very manly stuff going on in that room during playstation.

WAY TO GO MOYINI!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Next match should be a straight set. But I don't know if Carlos has ever play him before. Anyone know? Gosh, I so glad Carlos is playing so well! With many of the top seeds out this could puch his ranking up quite a bit. He could end up in the low 20's I think then just a skip jump to the teens. I wonder if he will play wimbldon if he is still playing well? What do you think Carlita?

Last year I talked to Flavia about this and I was: why isnt he going to Wimbledon?! He can play on grass! It's not like he's hopeless! And she was: yeah! Now tell him that! She had also told him to go and play there, but he didnt want to. She will be in Rosmalen this year so I will ask her again to kick his ass and just MAKE him go! he's got no points to defend there, so it's a good way to go up up up again :D

Here is part of an interview with Rafa posted on Bob Larsons Tennis World...its kinda cute :D
LOL...they sound like a big bunch of kids...but at least they have fun :D:D

Q. Carlos Moya said you played a lot with your Playstation and that he defeated you?

RAFAEL NADAL: Yes, he won yesterday.

Q. He said it was more difficult than practicing.

RAFAEL NADAL: No, I'm not going to make any comment on that, but I think we are very, very competitive with our Playstations together. Moya and Nalbandian played on a team, and they beat us. So we decided to turn off the play station, and they said, "Well, that's unfair."

Q. I think there is a crisis here ‑‑

RAFAEL NADAL: Yes, I know. Yes, I know, I know. He said I'm a pain in the neck. Okay. But he is. He is the one. He just doesn't accept anything. So I'm going to apply sanctions because he broke my remote control, and I'm just left with my Playstation. It's always very expensive, and I'm not the one breaking it.

No Rosie, I didn't talk to him, I think the only time I spoke to him was a long time ago, when I asked him a picture and a sign on my spanish flag, it was just after his back injury, when he came back in Paris, for the Bercy indoors. We talked a few minutes outside his hotel, with another Moya fan. Was a great memory :)

Yes it's exciting isn't it Val! Did you talk to him?

Here's an interview from marca.es

I'm going to translate what Carlos said :

"The confidence for a tennis player is very important, everybody can play tennis, and the confidence is what that makes you play well, although I'm conscient that I have to think match after match"

"I trained very well. I have always played a great level, but I was not able to raise it during the competition. I thought that perhaps, I had lost my level, but while training with them I realized that is not like that, and I believe that I had a mental problem "

"I have never faced him, I do not know much of him, he had a very good backhand, and that is very "hungry" (motivated)"

Well if you get the chance go up to him. Tell him we read his interview about his mental status and we all know he still has it in him to win! He needs to hear it from fans that know. He will appreciate it and will take it to heart. He's a smart guy. His confidence level is so important! Go Carlos, there is talk on GM that he could win this tournament... now wouldn't that be something!

I don't understand why in France, on both channels, we have the same match. Everybody has the national channel, so they could show another match on Eurosport. Yes, Carlos seems to be very inspired today so the match is not at the moment interesting. Wait and see... VAMOS Carlos :bounce:

Yes, Carlos took the first set 6-1. It was almost 6-0, the number of deuces at 5-0 ... now Brzezicki seems to have settled a bit, 1-1 in 2nd set ... Carlos is fighting on Brezezicki's serve, lots of deuces in this game ... but Brzez finally takes it - 2-1, going on serve.

here is the transcript from the same interview :D

2007 Roland Garros Tennis
Paris, France

Interview with Carlos Moya
Saturday, June 2, 2007

Q. What about this match?

CARLOS MOYA: Well, it was beautiful for me, an hour and a half of pleasure, great pleasure. I felt I could dominate the ball, doing what I pleased with it. And that's something you don't very often experience. You know, it was a day of great inspiration, and I was very happy.

Now, maybe he started feeling pressure, and there was the pressure of the circumstances as well. This is the third round of a Grand Slam tournament, and that was new for him. I know it's the combination of these two elements I could play very well.

I had an opportunity to finish early with two sets at 40‑15, and I managed to finish early. I'm very happy about the way I played. He was not an easy opponent here, and I'm very happy about the way I played today.

Q. Second week here, you haven't lost one set. What else can we say?

CARLOS MOYA: No, I did lose some sets. But I have improved my game match after match. My experience here is great, and I have improved the way I play since Hamburg.

Now I'm arriving in the fourth round with an opponent that could come out as a big surprise for everybody. So I need to remain focused, and I need to fight all my opponents like Bjorkman, who I am going to meet. But I'm going to do that exactly the same way I have fought all my matches in my career. It's never been easy. I'm very happy I'll be here in this second week.

Q. What happened with the T‑shirt?

CARLOS MOYA: There was the advertisement, the commercial on my shirt, and, apparently, it wasn't well‑placed.

Q. You are 30 in tennis. You're almost a veteran. Is it fun for you to play with all these young kids? Is it motivating?

CARLOS MOYA: Yes, absolutely. I'm just looking at the ranking this year. I should be ranking No. 15. And I've played players who are 15 years or 10 years younger than me. And I've played on great courts. And, you know, just playing on a big court like this one and winning, or even losing by a close result, this is what motivates me.

Sometimes when you don't feel well, like in Rome against Baghdatis, that's very difficult. Not because I lost the match against him, but because of the way I played. And then it was Hamburg, and I realized that I still had the means to go on fighting. That your tennis is still there, and that it's more difficult each time to play tennis at this level. And each time you can play it at this level, you have such a great pleasure.

Q. You're the most veteran on this tour. Maybe you have a different way of playing.

CARLOS MOYA: Well, for people like Henman, Santoro, Bjorkman, they do something different with the ball. And maybe this is a generation which is a slightly superior to mine, because they do things differently. They feel the ball differently.

As far as I'm concerned, I'm trying to do things differently. I try and serve a very strong service. I try and serve well. I try and be dominant with my forehand. And it's not very usual to see veterans like me to dominate and win a match.

But, for me, it's a great honor to be here at the age of 30 and play one of my best levels in tennis, the best since the beginning of this year. Although, this year began very well for me.

And, you know, I remember Agassi. Of course, I can't do the same. He is unique. He was still playing at such a high level at the age of 35, and he reached the semifinals at the US Open. So he's a legend. But I'd like to approach the legend.

Q. One question for us for the Argentinian Press. I see that you said a few words to Juan when you were walking outside the court, what did you say?

CARLOS MOYA: Well, I congratulated him. But I don't know what his ranking is. He is 134. Okay. But his presence was not usual in Grand Slam or Master Series tournaments.

I think he played an excellent tournament. He reached the third round. It's a pity for today, but he said it was an honor for him to play me, and that's it. That's all we said.

Q. You don't want to talk about it too much, but there is a revenge underway against the Spanish in the fourth round.

CARLOS MOYA: Well, I don't know. But right now, I don't want to talk about this. I want to think about Bjorkman, about my next match. And if I win, I'll think about what comes up next. I've always done it like this. I want to focus match after match and little by little.

Moya Wins Battle of 30-Somethings, Reaches Quarterfinals © AFP/Getty Images
http://www.atptennis.com/5/photos/2007/250x180/moya_roland99.jpg Former champion Carlos Moya (pictured) won the battle of the oldest players in the fourth round draw at Roland Garros on Monday.
The 23rd seed, who clinched the 1998 title over Alex Corretja, knocked out 35-year-old Jonas Bjorkman of Sweden 7-6(5), 6-2, 7-5 for a place in the quarterfinals.
Moya fought back from a 5-2 first set deficit to take control of his 11th career meeting against Bjorkman. The Spaniard broke serve in the sixth game of the second set and never looked back as he recorded his 25th win of the season.
At 30 years and 287 days, Moya is the oldest man to reach the quarterfinals since Andre Agassi in 2003. Moya lost in the last eight in 2003 and 2004.
This year, Moya has reached two ATP finals in Sydney (l. to Blake) and Acapulco (l. to Chela). He has also made semifinal exits in Chennai (l. to Koubek) and ATP Masters Series Hamburg (l. to Federer) recently.
Bjorkman was attempting to become the first Swedish man into the quarterfinals at Roland Garros since Magnus Norman in 2003. The World No. 39 falls to 9-12 this season.
Moya could next meet fellow Mallorcan Rafael Nadal, the two-time defending champion, or No. 14 seed Lleyton Hewitt of Australia in the last eight.

Very admirable Carlos. For us in the US the most touching moment of the match was on the Tennis Channel when they showed a montage of photos of Carlos and Rafa. The first photo was the first time they met Carlos was giving Rafa the award for the tournament he won. Carlos was gorgeous with flowing hair Rafa was 11 or 12 hardly recognizable and in awe of the world #1! It was precious. The commentary by McEnroe was awesome about the relationship and how difficult this match was for them to play. Truely a great moment.

That would have been good to see rosiemoyagirl!
I think it would've been so hard for Moya to win this, Rafa is in such great form ... I think Carlos can still hold his head high ... he had a great first set, he tried to play a little differently to his usual game, and I enjoyed watching the match. Yes, the third set was disappointing, but, hey, I've seen Carlos play worse! He just couldn't 'lift' to get back into it, and Nadal was relentless. I can seehim winning a 3rd straight title here.
And what a bonus to see Antonio Banderas courtside *sigh* ... can't complain with both Carlos and Antonio gracing your TV set! :) (or in my case, the neighbours TV set - I don't have cable TV, which is the only way to see the French Open here in OZ. No free-to-air TV coverage).

Well, I was sad with the score, but expected a loss unfortunately. But, I'm very happy that he has been to the quarters here and I hope that he'll continue to play a couple of years. Next year, will be the 10th anniversary of his victory in Monte-Carlo and Paris, would be great to see him.

i donq't think moya can win from henman on grass!!!! and the public will supported for henman , that is for sur
let us hope moya his service will go for 100% and than i think he makes a chance
one thing in his advance: he is playing better than henman lately!!!! but henman is on his favorit underground, and we can not say this from moya

rosiemoyagirl
06-22-2007, 04:50 PM
It will all be about Moya's mental state. If he wants it badly enough he will win. And I believe he wants to be in the top 20 before he hits the USO series. Murray is a big baby if Moya reaches him, he just plays the mental toughness and Murray will fall apart. Time will tell.

Carlita
06-22-2007, 05:16 PM
if Carlos can beat Philippoussis on grass IN Australia...I don't see why he can't beat Henman. He's in better shape than Tim atm.....I think he has a good chance to beat him :) vamos!

one good thing, at least he'll be on tv!

enqvistfan
06-22-2007, 06:42 PM
Well, I can't believe that Carlos has to play Henman. Even if Tim is not the Tim as before, he's playing on grass and he has a big advantage even if the confidence at the moment is for Carlos. Well, it will be interesting and I really really really hope that Carlos will play the tennis of his life on grass to beat Tim, on grass, and in front the british crowd. For once, Carlos comes to Wimbly, well, bad luck for him.

Buena suerte Carlos y vamos :bounce:

Moya can defeat him on Grass,

he has to remain confident

bit i m afraid about the Crowd Support :(

Carlita
06-23-2007, 11:57 AM
he's faced worse crowds than the British... I think the crowd will be the least of his worries ;)

rosiemoyagirl
06-23-2007, 07:57 PM
Remember USA moya v. blake. seems like he hated that match. The crowd was ghastly! Lost the TB? But I really don't think Henman will be a threat if Moya is confident which he seems to be these days. I read in GF that Rafa will be blogging for the London Times and that he is sharing a flat with Moya and Lopez. Perhaps we will get more insight into their personalities and lifestyle... more playstation? Murray may also be out if his injury is still persistant. Could Moya be on a good luck streak? Hope so...
