I was so hoping that Nando would be successful at going much further and deeper into this tournament. He played well and was his usual fighter spirit.

Have we heard about the ankle yet??

well, it looks alot darker on TV. Saw Fed's interview after the match - he praised Fer's game, commenting on his unpredictability and great forehand. He also said he had been practising with Fer on Sunday!

Our commentary team, who always go on about Fer's mental state, but do praise his talent, reckon if he had Ferrer's mental strength, he'd be top 5, without a doubt - and then reckoned, top 3!

I was at Nottingham today, he played really well:worship: He didn't make many mistakes, his forehand was exceptional, served very well, beautiful backhand slices. Nando, please win it now.

Lots of people wanted his autograph afterwards, and he didn't let anyone down, and he found time to pose for pics with fans. He has the most lovely smile.

VAMOS NANDO:bounce: Lets hope he can be the first Spanish winner of the Nottingham Open:banana: in its final edition:sad::tears:. Bad news could be the weather, it doesn't look good tomorrow, lots of showers forecast. Therefore they will move it indoors - and none of the public are allowed in there, safety issues, no facilities for spectators etc. Sky set up cameras in there when previous finals have been moved indoors, but somehow I doubt Eurosport will do that:( Lets hope the forecast isn't as bad as they say, and the final gets completed outdoors:)

:tears::bigcry:

I want to say that I am very proud of Nando. He played so well all week, and I don't feel like he lost at all. I decided to leave today when it was known it would be indoors, cos I wouldn't be one of the fools standing peering through the windows in the:rain:

I got home to watch the final in full, and he was terrific,if it had been a boxing match, they would have had to stage a rematch:) He can be proud. I can understand his sadness, coming so close. He played so well in every way, but for a crucial mistake when the tie-break was on a knife edge he would be the last champion in Nottingham now.

Nando, you have been a credit to tennis this week, the way you have played, behaved, and treated everyone so well, with that gorgeous smile.:worship::hug: It is such a shame Nottingham will never see you again. Its been a pleasure to see him live, and I look forward to doing so again soon. Nottingham loved you and will miss you:awww:

Nando, you have found yourself a new chica:)

Good luck for Wimbledon Nando,I'm with you all the way:) So:cool::hearts:

As far as I remember (though not sure anymore) Filip Prpic is the son of former pro Goran Prpic, who played for Yugoslavia and Croatia. Goran Prpic had a career-high of 16. Filip is currently quite near to his career high he had about two years ago.

Who invented this bye in the first round of a 32 draw? Honestly I could understand people in GM who would say Nando has a mug draw. The first "serious" match seems to be in quarterfinal.

Edit: I don't want to say the opponents in the first rounds are not good players, but still they shouldn't give Nando too much problems.

Hello, I just popped in here because I was there about half the match live (could have been the whole thing if my friend didn't insist on leaving the grounds to buy food) and I gotta say one thing: . Even as a die-hard Djokovic fan who watched both matches live, I gotta say that the Verdasco match was the most fun match I watched today (well, yesterday technically). If I can figure out a way, I'll post some pictures. :)

I guess Robin knows how to make friends :lol:see Birte? This is why I don't like him that much, no matter how kind he was in Båstad. And he doesnt only do this when he plays Fer.... I know Fer isn't a Robin fan, I guess now he never will be either :o Maybe he should have shaken his hand, not to give Robin the satisfaction of showing how annoyed he was.

And one of these days someone will smack Robin...if he keeps this up!

Top-seeded Spaniard Fernando Verdasco made a winning start to his title campaign at Pilot Pen Tennis presented by Schick, defeating Israeli Dudi Sela 6-4, 6-4 in his second round opening match Monday in New Haven.

Verdasco, a two-time quarterfinalist in New Haven, broke Sela twice in each set to secure the win in one hour and 19 minutes. With his 35th match win of 2008, the World No. 13 matched his previous-high season total, set in 2005.

Unfortunately, I wasn't able to see our Fer this week in New Haven...I only had enough money to go for one day and he wasn't playing that day.

But his match is on TV today so I will let y'all know how he looks. :yeah:

And yesterday, Brad Gilbert briefly interviwed him on TV during another match. He talked about his comments during his press conference about the plane crash in Madrid. Here's the quote from his press conference yesterday after his win:

"I want to dedicate my victory today to all the victims and all the families of the victims in the flight in Madrid and send them all my support. I am so sorry about that. It's my hometown. It's so bad when these things happen, no? I really felt so bad [Wednesday] and [Thursday]. It's really hard, no?"

During his chat with Brad, Fer said that he had friends who were flying out of Madrid on other flights that told him what the airport was like after the crash happened. And he's talked to a lot of family and friends at home about it.

Fer lost to Mardy 6-0, 1-6, 6-3...

First, the good news...Fer was adorable as always! (Although I can live without the facial hair... :tape: Schick is one of the sponsors - I hope they give him a few razors before he leaves... ;)). And love the way he had his hair sticking up. Brad Gilbert was laughing about it.

The bad news...what an ugly match! He was horrid in the first set. His serve is (still) off.....he has the yips big time. After awhile, it looked like he gave up completely. Then Mardy sucked in the second set. The third set was better for both, but Fer's service yips came back...he even df'd on match point.

Poor Fer...

He also was in a very bad mood....he was very irritable out there. After the first game of the 2nd set, he turned to his dad and cousin, and told them to shhhhh...put his finger up to his mouth. And after the 2nd set when Fer won, he turned to them and gave a fist pump, but his dad is obviously annoyed with him, because his dad turned away.

Miscellaneous - his cousin is traveling with him this summer helping out...I'm not sure if I heard right, but his cousin plays college tennis in the U.S.? And it sounded like Fer's father is coaching him now? I hate this - I've been so busy that I haven't had time to follow our Fer like I used to.

Anyway - hopefully he can forget this match quickly and get ready for the US Open!!! :fiery:

Hi Lynn :wavey: been meaning to say that's a great pic of Nico in your av - one of the best I've ever seen of him! Is it one of your own?

oh dear Lynn - the report doesn't sound too good. The 'yips' are back then - and not happy to hear he he wasn't his usually happy-go-lucky self. I guess he got down on himself with the serve probs. Thanks for the report!

Yeah, unfortunately, the yips are back big time. I think Brad Gilbert had some good advice for Fer - hopefully he will tell Fer in the locker room. Said that there is nothing wrong with Fer's service motion. That he should just try to get in regular speed serves (like 125-130) without trying to kill the ball. Then once he gets his confidence back on his serve, then go back to trying for the big serve again.

(The pix of Nico isn't mine...I think it is a Canal13 picture.. :)).

Just saw the result Sjoukje -:crying2::crying2: hmm, maybe he's saving himself for the US Open???? Hope it's not an injury. Just a bad day at the office. No I don't think he's saving himself. He's also a bit cut up about what happened in Madrid  It might all be playing a part....

Is Marco there with him? He sometimes plays doubles with him.

I don't know who the third guy was...there was his dad, his cousin, and some other guy with shorter hair.

Poor Fer

I can absolutely understand that he probably had other things in mind today,
I really hope he didn´t know anyone who died in the plane in Madrid...

WTF happened today?????? From the score, Fer took a hammering from Cilic. I set the timer, but my Sky somehow switched itself off - and I think I should be thankful - although I'll have missed the chicas.

I saw part of it and the part I saw didn't look good. He showed some good points at the end, but that was a bit too late. poor guy
