I changed my avatar today too and it first didn't work either, but I tried it again a minute later and then it worked. I always had to try twice before it worked...

First set lost, but not the match. And if they can't give me good tennis today, they should give me some emotions at least

Did the same and it worked:)

too hard to break Roddick.....but he did have break point chance, so that's an improvement

Slump and glump all round.

Crowd half empty - they clearly had better things to do.

Dickwad just throws his towel on the ground...is it too hard to give it to the ballkid??

He's pretty meticulous with his towel and that's famous among ballkids :p

It looks like Nole can't move his face :help: I haven't seen another facial expression than his current one today. Did he get botox injections or something? It slightly worries me though.

kalisita

Nole play so crappily. Match so bad, boring. Roddick only doing what's necessary, which is very little, and stepping up when necessary. Like I think someone pointed out, Nole looks like a zombie. If this is because of playing Roddick specifically, then I dread what would happen if he had to play him at the Open.

Billabong
03-20-2009, 11:09 PM
I don't understand why Nole is sooo up and down, he played terrible at the start of Dubai, then played 3 excellent matches, in Davis Cup he was totally absent and now in Indian Wells, plays 1 good match and totally loses it here:help:
how come anyone??

Lee
03-20-2009, 11:10 PM
Seriously, Roddick is not playing very well, may be it's because of Nole's bad play and Nole's game has tons of room for improvement.

Billabong

kalisita

Hopefully he can change whatever he needs to change, like Ana did to try to revert her downward trend. It would be impossible to keep his #3 ranking now, sadly. But Nole's only 21 and nothing should be over too soon. I'm just a bit depressed right now. bye

I was horribly wrong in my judgement.
I can't tell if I feel more sad or disappointed.

This is the first time I could actually see that mental barrier stopping Nole's power.
It's so heartbreaking to see him lose like this to a lesser player.
This will haunt him for a long time.

But maybe you have to hit rock bottom before you can shine again. Maybe he's that sort of a person.
I don't know. But seeing Vajda with his head down most of the match really makes me angry. He's your player, you're supposed to cheer him on, remind him what he's made of, not look like your mother just died.

Something needs to change before this really damages Novak. Yes, he is still very young and the season is still very long, but he's such a confidence player and his confidence took a severe battering.

Really, Roddick probably should have been the favorite today. He is lower ranked, but I think his results this year are better than Nole's. Like if the ATP still had the race, Roddick would be ranked higher than Nole. It'd be pretty close anyway. He got to the QFs easier this week, as well. So I guess we shouldn't be so surprised he lost. The way he lost is more disturbing IMO.

Looks as if he got an arm injury wich is that last thing he need playing Nadal:o

I wonder why I had a good feeling before the match. Roddick was really good with powerful service and everything, but Novak helped a lot!

Hopefully he will do better in Miami where he's not defending points.

I feel the same. Vajda was like that already after the opening game. Cheer him, show him you believe in him... Man!
Or he knows sth we don't and knew this was inevitable. Anyway I really didn't like that!!! :armed:

Night :wavey:

From the very first moment we could see he doesn't care. We saw Vajda, Miljan...He simply stood, uninterested, waiting to run away from all this as soon as possible.

Novak's face expression...I don't know but for a while (in fact from Queens final) he's not Novak we knew.

What's happening? Nobody knows and this is the only thing that scares me. Lack of confidence, bad form, whatever is not for 'bump your head to the wall' but this...this is not good at all and this is sad.

As Lee said (I think Lee) - take a vacation, take a year, two...just put yourself together.

Misha, I think Nole needs Vajda in his camp especially he can't have his family around him on the tour. He looks to me as someone who needs constant hugging and patting on his head and a buddy around.

At the same time, he also needs someone to smash him on his head. I would like he has a team with him, like Murray did after getting rid of Gilbert.

I guess the Serbs are unanimous on Vajda's inability to coach Novak any longer.

What's happening? Nobody knows and this is the only thing that scares me.

Reminds me of something - Today JJ wrote a blog on her website, and she talked about the problems she's facing right now. Mentioned the off-court troubles that are distracting her. Even AI recognized her slump, and identified the problem.

With Nole, it's impossible to say whether even he knows the problem himself, or is trying to do something about it, rather than putting it off, and just hoping things will fall back together by themselves. He's not open about things like this (unlike JJ/AI) which makes it even harder.

As Lee said (I think Lee) - take a vacation, take a year, two...just put yourself together.

Thought about this too. Problem is, he's made too many commitments. There is definitely pressure from the sponsors (especially Head, which is putting his racket on sale in a few months), which he can't back out of. An injury would be the only way he could get out of playing, and that doesn't sound too good either. Seems like he's going to have to play through this bad patch, and just figure out what is wrong during it.

Don't think he can do this even if he really wants to. With all the financial commitment. It's nice for him to bring an ATP tournament to Serbia but I see it's a big load on his shoulder. On top of all other "financial" investments his family involved.

Okay I'm going.

Don't stress over his loss. I am certain he will wake up from this slump. And as I am convinced Murray will be #3 by RG, maybe this will relieve some pressure from Nole and reignite his fight to regain his ranking/form/winning ways. Every player has to go through a slump, maybe Nole's is longer than we want but  he is young and has so much time left in his career. He needs to concentrate on his own game and not that of anyone else's.

I want Nadal or Federer to take this title. Good luck to them!

 I don't know. IMO, it's really too much for a 21 years old. And that's not only the pressure from the ATP circuit. Look at Federer and Nadal, they are totally focus on playing tennis, everything outside tennis are for fun/relaxation. Look at Nole. After Dubai, he went home, not to have a relaxing day with family and friends, but check the site and promotion for the upcoming tournament. It looks to me everytime he's back to Belgrade, he was promoting this or that.

The problem is, Nole loves to be around people that he may not even notice he's been burning at both ends too fast and too much.

The third-seeded Serb, who won last year's title after claiming his maiden grand slam crown at the Australian Open two months earlier, said he had suffered a mental breakdown.

"Overall it was a very bad day," Djokovic told reporters after being swept aside in one hour, eight minutes on a hot afternoon at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden.

"It's tough to explain, really," the 21-year-old Serb said. "It's just one of those days when you really don't feel comfortable on the court. I just didn't have any momentum. No feel for the ball, no movement, no solutions.

"You can't expect perfect days because we're playing in the desert. But again I've played in these conditions many times before so I didn't feel any physical breakdown. It was just mental."

Yes, it's completely mental, as in many matches before.
Time for CHANGE. Nole can consider DOING AN ANA (get another coach). Ana changes her coach and see? She's in the final. Nole should do something before it's too late. He has too much to defend in the coming months.
Hopefully he can stay at the Top 4 for the coming months.
I'd give Nole this line from a song of Josh Groban: Don't Give Up, Because You Are Loved.

Hi everyone

I am not a Nole fan, and I have always been honest about that, but I do actually miss seeing him play confidently with the awesome backhands and fire powered forehands. He might not be my cup of tea as I have already mentioned, but it was quite tough watching him in self-destruct mode yesterday- Andy didn't do anything awesomely special in the match yesterday, pretty average in fact, but Nole on the other hand had probably one of his worst days on court. I hope he finds his game again because when it is on it is very flamboyant and full of variety, quite entertaining. All I want to say to you Nole fans is don't be down, what doesn't kill you makes you stronger, right? I had quite a tough year in 2008 being a Fed fan when everyone started saying his slam days were over etc, but patience and faith paid off in the end. There is always some light at the end of the tunnel, and I am sure he will get out of this slump sooner rather than later.

Can't rep you but thanks for dropping in and for your kind comments. Most of us here have a decent sense of perspective so hopefully wrist-slitting and self-immolation will be kept to a minimum.

Yesterday was certainly his nadir as far as I have seen; there was indifference/despair almost to the point of nihilism.

Really hope there is nothing family or relationship-wise which is screwing his head. If not, then solutions must be found and fast if Nole is not to go into freefall. A look at his off-court commitments and at those around him must be the first places to start.

I watched the match on Sky too, - and that's all I heard  Just that they were having "a few words" during the match. I assumed it was because Novak was annoyed with himself for his level of play, and perhaps, also a little annoyed with Marian for arriving late?
