Are you ATDHE or CS - both of mine just show 1% and loading with a frozen picture?

Watching at CS. It froze and showed 1% also, but then it went fast forward and now it's fine again.

For that one moment in the last game when it was 30-30, I let my mind wander, and thought, what if Nole breaks here, and then breaks again, and takes the set and then wins another set, and then another set? Far-fetched, yes? But the imagination is a happy place :hearts:

No, not really :) It's just that it's location is sort of on an "island" in the middle of all these major roads/dual carriageways and flyovers...........a bit hard to explain, but somewhat like "Spaghetti Junction" in Birmngham, UK if you've ever been there  So to reach it on foot, you have to go up and down all these endless confusing flights of steps to get to it without having to cross all the roads. When I went to pick up my tickets for the Open, it took me ages to work out which flight of steps to take, as they all seemed to end up in the wrong part of this gigantic mish-mach of roads and never quite where I wanted to be :o

Hope so. I kind of agree. In fact it wouldn't surprise me if Nole didn't play and they gave the chances to some others like Krajinovic  I certainly don't envisage him playing more than one match to give them a 1-0 lead on the first day.

Davis Cup: Serbia vs Uzbekistan in Belgrade!

The draw for the Davis Cup 2009 World Group Play-off took place at the ITF offices in London. The team of Serbia will face Uzbekistan.

The encounter will be staged in Belgrade from September 18-20.

Serbia needs to win in order to retain it’s place in the Davis Cup World Group (in the first round tie in March this year Serbia lost to Spain 1-4).

The best Uzbekistan tennis player is Denis Istomin, world no.91., next is Murad Inoyatov #437, then Farrukh Dustov #637 and Vaja Uzakov #834.

Uzbekistan is 23rd in the current Davis Cup rankings, while Serbia is 13th.

The team of Uzbekistan has played two ties in 2009. In the second round they beat Rep.of Korea (4-1), and in the third they were better than Japan (3-2) in Group I Asia/Oceania .

Captain of Serbian DC team, Bogdan Obradovic, was very content with the draw.

"Right after the draw I’ve spoken to all our players, Novak Djokovic, Viktor Troicki, Janko Tipsarevic and Nenad Zimonjic, and also with our advisor Nikola Pilic. We’re all very happy with the draw. The team of Uzbekistan has one respectable player, Denis Istomin, while the others are, with all respect, far from the world class and our best players" - said Obradovic.

No - guess they feel they don't really need him to beat Uzbekistan :o So now he's gone so deep into US Open it will give him some rest time, and also give some of the other players a chance to play a live DC rubber. I'm sure he'll be there to support the team though :)

Yes, I am at the match, but I dont know Jelena and co, so I am by myself.
There is not a lot of spectators, although the entrance is free, cause it is working day and Uzbekistan isn't an attractive oponent. It was pretty empty at the beginning of Janko's match, very sad, but it is getting better.

Viktor is making a lot of UEs, but he doesn't look as in pain, or having problems with movement.

Nole is sitting still at the moment, but he was going in and out several times during Janko's match, making some poor kids running all around in attempt to get autographs :D.

Yes I can see it is quite empty  Hope there are more people tomorrow. Am watching it on the Balkaniyum site. Our TV is showing the GBR tie, and also Spain/Israel, but I wanted to see Serbia, so have to put up with a buffering livestream

Saw Nole a few times on his phone during Janko's match. He didn't seem that interested in the match to be honest :o I thought Janko was OK apart from that shaky 2nd set, but Viktor is truly dreadful against this guy I have never even heard of :tape: Hope he can get himself together and win the match. Would be great to have Serbia back in the World Group.

Serbia routs Uzbeks to stay in World Group

Nenad Zimonjic and Janko Tipsarevic strolled to a 62 63 62 win over Denis Istomin and Farrukh Dustov on Saturday to give Serbia an unassailable 3-0 lead over Uzbekistan in their Davis Cup World Group play-off.

Although they played without world No. 4 Novak Djokovic, who pulled out of the tie with fatigue, Serbia were too strong for a modest Uzbek team and gave them no chance of pulling off an upset. The Serbians have qualified for the competition’s top tier for the third time in a row, having beaten Australia 4-1 in 2007 to reach it for the first time as an independent nation and Slovakia by the same score last year.

World doubles number two Zimonjic and Tipsarevic teamed up for the first time in Davis Cup but linked up superbly from the start of a one-sided contest and held their serve throughout, although they did not face top-level opposition in Istomin and Dustov. Zimonjic was flawless as usual but it was Tipsarevic, not a doubles specialist, who was particularly impressive with excellent net plays and a devastating backhand the Uzbek duo could not parry.

Serbs too strong for Uzbeks

Zimonjic and Tipsarevic broke their rivals twice in the first set and once in the second, having saved three break points after they were 4-2 up and 0-40 down on Tipsarevic’s serve. The world No. 58 produced an outstanding backhand winner and then an ace to put Serbia 5-2 up, allowing the home crowd favourites to race through the rest of the match and delight 7,000 fans in the Belgrade Arena after one hour and 36 minutes of play.

Viktor Troicki is due to play Istomin and Tipsarevic is scheduled to meet Dustov in Sunday’s reverse singles, but both team captains are likely to give their reserves a chance in the two dead rubbers.

With participation in next year’s World Group ensured, 12th-ranked Serbia will hope to avoid a third successive away tie against one of the big guns at next Wednesday’s draw in Geneva. The Serbs were beaten by defending champions Spain 4-1 in the first round in Benidorm this year, while they suffered a 3-2 defeat by Russia at the same stage in 2008.

Zimonjic hoping for better draw

“We are hoping for a kinder draw this time round, as it would give us a better chance of reaching the latter stages of the competition,” Zimonjic said in a courtside interview after the match. “It is always a pleasure to play in the Belgrade Arena with such wonderful fans behind us, we’ve all had a long season and it took some effort to achieve this,” he added.

Serbian captain Bogdan Obradovic was impressed with his team’s performance and said he hoped Zimonjic and Tipsarevic would team up more often in ATP events.

“Janko was obviously very motivated because it was an honour for him to play with Zimonjic. Like any other player, he can learn a lot from Nenad about doubles and his effervescent performance today suggests they can become a force to be reckoned with in the doubles for Serbia’s Davis Cup matches,” Obradovic told a post-match news conference.

“The crowd had the opportunity to see a very entertaining match and we are now hoping for a home tie in next year’s first round, as playing on home soil would certainly boost our chances of progressing,” he added.

Just seen this over in GM, in a very good thread started by the poster Duong. If we look at the odds, Serbia seem to have a good chance of having a home draw, as there are only 3 out of the 8 seeded teams that don't automatically give them this.

http://www.menstennisforums.com/showpost.php?p=9136196&postcount=1

The draw of the 2010 Davis Cup will be made on Wednesday, 11.30 CET (9.30 GMT).

The 8 seeds are the teams which were quarterfinalists this year, Spain and Czech Republic being the two first seeds and being placed in opposite sides of the draw.

The following seeds are ranked according to their ranking in the ITF Davis Cup Nations Ranking.

1. Spain
2. Czech Republic
3. USA
4. Russia
5. Argentina
6. Croatia
7. Israel
8. Germany

These 8 nations will meet one of the following nations in first round (which will take place between Dubai and Indian Wells on the 5th of march) :
Switzerland, Serbia, France, Sweden, Belgium, Chile, Ecuador, India.

......................

Serbia would receive all their opponents except Argentina, and maybe the USA or Croatia (it would be decided by lot).

So far Serbia have had really bad luck with draws, so let's hope they don't draw Argentina away

Roddick is only scary on fast, hard courts  So if they chose a clay surface, then his big serve would be negated - after all, even Tursunov beat him on clay once :tape: And I say that as a Dima fan - not being nasty to him.

Yeah Serbia should definitely choose clay....that's how the Croats beat USA every time :tape:
I'm thinking.......would Roddick be a little uncomfortable coming to Serbia? Nole is fine with the NYC crowd now but I wonder how Serbs view Andy-R in that incident...I rmb reading about Serbian press describing that as insult to Nole

Hadn't really thought about it  But I'm sure he'll be fine with it. Andy R. is a great professional and always give 110% when it comes to DC - so I don't forsee any problems. Guess only problem with clay is that it's not really Viktor (Troicki) or Janko's favourite surface................. but then it isn't Blake's either, and the Bryans are pretty much the same on every surface  Will be a very close tie I think.

Serbian tennis team has a difficult task in the first round of the Davis Cup World Group , which will take place on 5-7 March 2010, in the capital of Serbia, Belgrade.

Nole about the Davis Cup draw: We live for those three days

Our players’ first opponent will be the team of USA, the country that has won the greatest number of trophies since the founding of the competition (32 titles).

For his official website, Novak gave his impressions of everything that happened in the last seven days.

"I would first like to congratulate our players on making successful results during the previous weekend. I want to thank my colleagues from the team and all the media in Serbia for understanding my absence from the team in the tie against Uzbekistan."

Novak has already officially confirmed his participation in the following tennis spectacle in Belgrade Arena.

"I will surely play for Serbia against our next opponent in the Davis Cup World Group, the team of USA, and I will try to give my contribution in our attempt to win the tie. Although we got a very difficult opponent who won the trophy in this prestigious competition many times, I am convinced that we have the quality to beat them. There are six more months until this duel, but I must already emphasise to all our tennis fans, that these are the matches of great importance and the support of our home crowd would help us achieve the goal. We live for those three days and expect a great spectacle in Belgrade Arena", concluded Nole.

Novak is currently in Monte Carlo, practicing for the upcoming China Open tournament. He’s heading to Beijing on Wednesday.

Serbia’s top tennis player Novak Djokovic missed the Davis Cup play-offs tie against Uzbekistan, but is set to lead the men’s national team in the first round of 2010 World Group as they take on team USA.

- “In the past two days Novak has had some private commitments and that’s why he hasn’t spoken out on the draw outcome. I’ve heard from him and he told me he was very excited that we were playing the USA and said he was looking forward to playing them in March next year. He missed the Uzbekistan tie in agreement with coach Obradovic after an exhausting North American tour; that’s all,” Goran Djokovic, Novak’s father, said for Blic.
Slobodan Zivojinovic, the president of Serbia Tennis Association, confirms Serbia will be boasting their finest individuals against the USA.
- “When I said we had chances of winning if we played at full strength, I meant if everyone was fit to play, nothing else,” said Zivojinovic.
The president says he has spoken with Serbian tennis players on the USA tie.
- “I’ve spoken with Novak and the rest of the players after the draw. All of the players have said they were eagerly anticipating the March’s clash with the Americans,” says Zivojinovic.
It should be expected that Serbia will opt to host the tie on clay surface, as was the case back in September 2007 when Serbia took on Australia in the play-offs.
- “Speaking with the players and the backroom staff, we’ve reached an agreement that clay would be the best possible playing surface for us to pick, as it least suits the visitors. Croatia picked to play on clay in Porec over the summer and got away with a win. That’s where I see our chance. We haven’t had a chance to host such a formidable team for a while. The women’s team take on Russia in the Fed Cup in February, after which there is the Davis Cup tie against the USA. We expect our fans will enjoy great tennis and will undoubtedly be spectacular,” said Slobodan Zivojinovic.

Nole should win the 2 singles rubber. US has the upper hand in the doubles with the Bryans. So Janko or Viktor needs to step up to the challenge vs Blake or Querry. Janko is 1-0 vs Blake on clay and Viktor is 1-0 vs Querrey on clay. That's all the matchups on clay for all 4.

Novak talks about the first round in DC

Djokovic confident ahead of USA clash
Novak Djokovic, the world No. 3 and top-ranked player in Serbia, is optimistic about facing USA in this year’s Davis Cup by BNP Paribas.

Djokovic made his Davis Cup debut in 2004 and has since inspired Serbia to reach the World Group for the first time – after defeating Australia 4-1 in the play-offs in 2007.

“Davis Cup is first of all a very special competition for all of us,” said Djokovic. “We take part in an individual sport and Davis Cup is the only competition where we can feel the team spirit.”

In Serbia’s two previous World Group appearances, it has been drawn away against the reigning champion - Russia in 2008 and Spain in 2009 - with both ties ending in defeat.

“The last two years we’ve had a very bad draw,” said Djokovic. “But this year we are playing at home and, even though we are playing the most successful nation in Davis Cup competition, we are confident we can make a good result.”

Serbia has won its last three home ties for the loss of just one rubber and Djokovic, who has compiled a win-loss record of 14-6 in Davis Cup play, knows the importance of not having to travel.

“Home advantage is a big thing in Davis Cup because then you can choose venue, you can choose surface, you can choose balls – everything that you like,” said the 22-year-old.

“The support of the crowd is very important as well. We’re going to have 20,000 people every match. The crowd loves tennis and certainly it’s going to be very interesting for them to see big stars.”

The Davis Cup by BNP Paribas World Group first round tie between Serbia and USA will take place on an indoor clay court at Belgrade’s Beogradska Arena from 5-7 March.
