I pick, Dimitrov 6-7(11), 7-6(10), 7-6(14) in an all time epic. Which crumbles Nadal's career as the next GOAT will look back at this as what shot his career forward. Dimitrov will go on to win the next 3 slams of the year and 25 for his career. Nadal will never win a tournamnet again.

Exactly what I was thinking. GriGOAT will put the hammer down on the Mallorcan(Majorcan?) asspickin' bumrootin' Mug. GriGOAT will show the world how REAL tennis is played!

GriGOAT def Nadal 6-0, 6-0 in 72 minutes. Never faces a break point and converts 6/10.

Stanoytchev played Kuerten and Kafelnikov in 2000, but I don't think they were ranked nr 1 at that time.

if Dimitrov somehow won this, I'll officially start calling him GriGOAT from now on.

Grigor Dimitrov sounds like he has a good future. I can certainly see myself liking and supporting him too. But the hype he is getting here from certain posters who really should know better is way out of proportion. He beat Berdych. That's all.

Hopefully over the next two or three years he develops and establishes himself on the tour. If he makes the top 20, and I hope he will, he will have done very well for himself. Maybe he'll even do better than that. But winning a couple of Junior Slams guarantees nothing. He is still immensely green and it is wrong and stupid to put unrealistic expectations on the fellow, even in jest.

As to this match, well I imagine he will get a few games. I certainly hope so. But suggestions that he will beat Nadal are absurd. Nadal and Berdych are about as different as it is possible for two tennis players to be. To suggest Dimitrov will encounter a more mentally focused, mature and skilled player today would be a gross understatement. Nadal in two easy sets (not bagels though)...and why this isn't even an option in the poll God only knows.

Nadal was asked about this in interview, and he made reference to his match vs. Federer in 2004 when he fought the #1 for the first time, and he was also 17 (and won 63 63, lol). He said the boy will give everything to win just like he did that day. However besides this consideration there is nothing suggesting Dimitrov can do anything but win a few games.

I dunno.

I remember (short-lived #1) Guga's first match with Andy Roddick, and Andy beat him. I was crazy for Guga, so I was supporting him at the time.

I am not sure who will win the Dimitrov v Nadal match. I agree with Rafa that Dimitrov is going out there to win. What I really like about Rafa is that he takes all of his opponents very seriously. But.. I am not sure.

I hope Rafa, but then again anything can happen.

The hype about Grigor Dimitrov is going a bit over board. I read his coach has said Grigor was ready to win a GS  Ready? Really? I don't see this happening yet but who knows  RG is just in 3 months but let's first see how he plays tonight.

That is true.

But really, that's why I said the boy will get some games.

Honestly, if I was Rafa I would take this chance to compeltely destroy him, make my best to try to doublebagel him, even if that means a huge effort and losing in the next round. You never know, this kid could be good in the future, and this is a good chance to emasculate him like he did to Djokovic.

Head says nadal will win, but I just get the feeling that with the whole thing about Dimitrov being expected big things and that.. if he would win here it could be one of those matches where we look back into the future and look at this match as a big turning point in both of these players careers.

Yves.
02-12-2009, 05:44 PM
It's a bit optimistic to think Dimitrov's got a chance. He'll may manage to hold his serve for a while, but at some point Rafa will find a gap. Maybe 6/4 6/3 Nadal. I hope he play Friday evening :inlove:

Just looking at his physical built, I am guessing soon his body will develop like Safin. I think right now he is growing physically stronger than Federer. So, in few years not only he could be as good as Federer, but physically stronger as well. Does anyone agree?

NinaNina19

Dimitrov is the new sampras

Sampras wouldn't lose a set to Nadal on this surface. Dimitrov is the new Federer.

Fed's mental scarring began in June 2005 with that first grand slam loss at Roland Garros. Coming in he was 1-1 with Nadal and riding a huge wave of confidence.

Grigor has already way outperformed most people's ideas of what he'd do in this tournament. If he beats Rafa here it's going to be crazy.

Of course testing/beating Nadal here isn't the same as trying to do so on other surfaces. But it's good for Grigor to get his first match against the current #1 in this kinda setting. The timing of his nascent arrival certainly couldn't be any better.
