What exactly has changed for Hewitt if you compare now to when he was the world number 1?

Absolutely nothing which is why he fails at life.

Lleyton shouldn't be losing like that. Hope that hip isn't bothering him. He better be careful or the Gooch will take over as Aussie no.1

Look at the stats, it was an evenly poised match, Hewitt had loads of breakpoints especially in the first set, I think if there's one thing where Hewitt has lost his ability it's in playing the important points. He misses breakpoints all the time, and when he faces breakpoint on his own serve he just makes a tame error. It didn't use to be like that.

Time to retire

I think his best surface is clay. Look forward to the clay season. :yeah:

I agree. It's not as if there are gaping holes in his game compared to when when he was at his peak. He plays pretty much the same as he's always done, just without the killer edge.

He can still beat good players on his day though. Free of injury he is still top twenty material and his attitude on court hasn't really changed too much either.

I wouldn't count him out yet. Fish always tends to turn up for the US hardcourt events then goes missing for the rest of the season.

Hewitt is not the same player that he used to be, wont have too much success this year in my opinion

Hewitt should have gone on South American tour for the first time in career. He would beat players like Dabul, Brzezicki, Andujar or Zampieri to back to Top 100 :D

True, he has a good record against South American players (claycourters). He could use a confidence boost, that is what is lacking in his game right now.

Lleyton shouldn't be losing like that. Hope that hip isn't bothering him. He better be careful or the Gooch will take over as Aussie no.1 :help: It's not uncommon for players coming back from an injury to slide even further down the rankings before they can get it together. What worries me is that he has 150 ranking points to defend at Indian Wells  (he was ranked high enough at the time to get in this year). His ranking will more than likely get worse than the #107 he's at now before it gets better. :ignore:

Hewitt will retire after Wimbledon. BTW, Hewitt's degenerative hip condition is a good argument for Roger's more measured style of play. Sure you can play nuclear defense when you're 18-22, but you pay the price down the road. Nadal seems to be built from sterner stuff then Hewitt, so the jury is still out on him.

lol so finnished.

cmon you can do better than that, some match info would have been nice instead of two lols:angel:

but I agree it's a bad loss, I wish Lleyton had used one of these many breakchances in 1st set, maybe then the 2nd set would have looked different

I don't want Llegs to retire soon, but I'm afraid he will if things don't get better:o
so better luck for IW and Miami hopefully
