Great draw for Tommy I think. He's not in del Potro's half, who may be the biggest thread to Tommy in this field (alhtough it remains to be seen how well he got over being crushed by Roger in Melbourne). Sure, Tommy is in the No. 1 seed's quarter, but I think I prefer Roddick over Stepanek for Tommy. His first two rounds are very managable (Poerschke is ranked at 589).
Good luck, man!

Well I wish the guy wasn't from Germany because I have read that Tommy doesn't like playing other German players. But I think if Tommy is healthy he can really pick up the points here even if he doesn't actually win the Tournament. Of course a win would be nice

Did someone order this webstream that is offered on the tourney's website? I guess that's the only way to actually watch the early rounds ...
I think ESP2 will show at least one semi and the final.

An afterthought: has by any chance anyone registered for the Eurosport web player? There it says that they will show San Jose and Delray Beach, among others. In case that they indeed show these events from the first rounds on, I might get me a month ...

Nope, only via the pay stream on B2 networks. And the costs are rediculous ...
Unfortunately, the ESP online player doesn't broadcast either, so far. Hope they will answer my question about when they'll start tomorrow.

thefly
02-10-2009, 01:01 AM
Well, I suspect that the other fellow is just no match to Tommy; I mean this guy didn't even come through the qualis but with a WC, which I'm sure he got through some college ties (I've read he plays college tennis in the US, like Benjamin Becker, for example).

Lugburz
02-10-2009, 01:07 AM
yeah,it is strange that he got the WC...
well BB is spoused to be much better player than this guy..
Anyway I am happy to see Tommy's on the track again, and has no problems at all so far ;)

thefly
02-10-2009, 01:11 AM
The other guy seems to have found his serve, at least. Wouldn't surprise me if this was another of these big servers, as they seem to be produced by the dozen in the US college tennis ...

But Tommy's serve seems to be strong, either. ;)

Good thing Tommy came through in two in the end. And two thumbs up for your nerves, Tommy, good job in that TB! ;)

Now C. Rochus. Highly managable.

I'm out, good night.

lol, isn't it the second time in a row that Tommy jumps in for another player to play Sampras in San Jose? Weird. But nice of him. Maybe there'll turn up some footage ...
And also doubles?! That's insane. But if he plays today, he may at least have one day off. Well, as long as he feels good, fine with me. ;)

Yeah, I also sent them an email and still got no reply. What they're doing is pretty much false advertisement, although they could probably say that the dates mentioned on the ES Player site are just the tournament dates instead of the days they're streaming.

02-10-2009, 07:16 PM
Pörschke is like a typical American challenger player. Good serve (as good as Haas' serve, so not really like Isner) and he can bash the forehand. The double handed backhand looks average.

I guess,we're all surprised that he has to play with Stepanek
Surprised--I'm shocked  I don't like Stepanek at all :ras: But they won their Match :) And I didn't know that Tommy and Pete had played until I came in here. I really wish Pete would just give it up and stay off the courts. He had a great career and IMHO he should have let it end at his retirement from Pro Tennis  And as always it worries me when Tommy plays so much tennis this close together :scared:

Lugburz
02-11-2009, 09:38 AM
Yeah, shock would be a right word :) Anyway they have won and seen off number 3 seeded players.Nicely...
Tommy must be really on top again as he's doing so many matches..I guess that can be beneficial for him.Of course there's always a threat of injuries, but for now we can sit back and enjoy he's play..

02-11-2009, 09:29 PM
Yes! Great!
Really frightening. Indeed almost like he controls it from the start. Aces when he needs them (no break points for Rochus!), he doesn't really do much damage on Rochus serve in the 2nd ... until he has the opportunities to close the match, and suddenly the match points are there! Really creepy. But in a good way. ;)

Yes Tommy has really been entertaining in San Jose :yeah: Tommy had defeated Andy in the past after 2 shoulder surgeries it would be interesting to see if he can do it after 3 shoulder surgeries. Andy has lost some weight and he is playing a little better now than he had been recently. Gulbis is to me hard to get a handle on. Sometimes he looks great, but then there are other times when he doesn't even look good

Tommy and Stepanek also won their quarterfinal 4-6, 6-4, 10-6, congrats. The doubles field seems to be pretty weak, except for the Bryans (the 2nd seed being ranked at 70), I guess that's why Tommy decided to play in the first place. I bet Blake/Fish are next. But who really gives a damn, Roddick or Gulbis is next! ... Although it sure is nice for Tommy to have at least one more extra match certain after his singles quarterfinal. :)
Interesting enough, if Tommy wins tomorrow (and I'm confident he will), he alsmost certainly will meet Stepanek in the semis ...

Yeah, well ... I've nothing useful to add. Actually, I'm not really awake. All I can say is: go Tommy, good return game! I guess!

I can add that I am wide awake because I haven't gone to the bed in first place :) but ''go tommy'' is fine for now ;)

Scoreboard is fine here ... Tommy has to be patient, Roddick seems to be serving well right now.

this good hold games can be beneficial, could make some pressure to the next Roddick's service game..

thefly

Another good hold. It ain't over yet! Tommy could use a break now to ease things up a little, to relieve pressure from himself. I'm sure his serve would improve ...

yeah still waiting for good serve. but andy is so good on his serve...so far.

well 5-7 4-6 I guess Andy deserved that win.again (it seems)...Never gave Tommy chance for a BP,had perfect service games..It's very difficult to comment the match that we weren't able to watch but that's not up to us,is it...
OK,on our way to Memphis now,and maybe sooner than we think,Tommy's revenge again in QF ;)

Not a very good match by Tommy, far too many UE, espacially on his forehand, and not a huge serving performance either, although he served relatively well under pressure. Roddick was just the better player today.
Maybe next week he'll get his revenge...

I was afraid the "Duck" would get Tommy and he did :( This also means I can't see Tommy on TV as I only have coverage of the SFs and the Final :( And, of course,
now I'm not interested in the Tournament

Tommy is in the doubles final!! :) Blake had to withdraw due to ankle problems ;)

A pity that doubles results don't yield points for the singles ranking ... ;) But nice to see that Tommy gets some more match time. Yet, Stepanek has to do double duty today, lol.
Let's hope Tommy doesn't have to play on monday already.

Will be interesting to see Tommy in Memphis, were he is officially king with his three titles. ;) But I still think our expectations are a little too high. I mean, the match against Andy was his sixth since his comeback! He'll need some more of those, and as long as he stays heatlhy, he will get there again ...

Somehow that shows me how little I actually care for doubles (outside the Davis Cup); but it's still cool, better late then never. All in all a pretty interesting week I'd say. Guess a title is a title. ;)
Now on to Memphis. No Tommy on Monday ...
