Yet another upset and yet another dissapointing result from Gulbis
Zagreb 09 - 2R - I.Dodig def E.Gulbis 7-6 6-4HattonWBA 02-05-2009, 02:07 PM Yet another upset and yet another dissapointing result from Gulbis petar_pan 02-05-2009, 02:08 PM what wrong with that croats,1st veic than dodig? that were first wins on atp level for both of them,i don't have words. 1st veic came back from set down against canas(canas was injured),than came back from set down against korolev. than dodig win against great player such as andreev, than against gulbis(he is even better than andreev) in straight sets(he is neighbour of cilic in međugorje and one of the best friend, soo it's must be fluid of cilic). every day one new croat.last month it was tomic, croat from australia.that's too much. very soon it will be krajinovic, croat from sombor(from town where i was born),serbia. 4 croats in quaters of same tournament(8. seed is no. 39,that is very good tournament, the best in this week),great.last year ancic, ljubicic, karlovic were in semis. GlennMirnyi 02-05-2009, 02:08 PM :haha: Love it Gulbis = overrated as hell. petar_pan 02-05-2009, 02:09 PM what wrong with that croats,1st veic than dodig? that were first wins on atp level for both of them,i don't have words. 1st veic came back from set down against canas(canas was injured),than came back from set down against korolev. than dodig win against great player such as andreev, than against gulbis(he is even better than andreev) in straight sets(he is neighbour of cilic in međugorje and one of the best friend, soo it's must be fluid of cilic;)). every day one new croat.last month it was tomic, croat from australia.that's too much;). very soon it will be krajinovic, croat from sombor(from town where i was born),serbia. Pack tennis up Erno and go and live in hell bjurra 02-05-2009, 02:18 PM :D A croat is going to win Zagreb but it is not going to be Ljubicic, Karlovic, Ancic, Cilic or Karanusic... bjurra 02-05-2009, 02:19 PM Pack tennis up Erno and go and live in hell That was not very nice. How much did you lose? but-it's-ok 02-05-2009, 02:20 PM what wrong with that croats,1st veic than dodig? that were first wins on atp level for both of them,i don't have words. Wake up to the light,Gulbis has finally convinced me today that he is in need of URGENT psychiatric treatment.. Horatio Caine 02-05-2009, 02:20 PM Honestly, in all the time I have followed professional mens tennis this closely, I haven't come across a more overrated player. Yes, Gulbis has talent, but time after time after time he keeps making the same mistakes in general approach (not that I have seen this particular match, mind...but it was probably the same old shit). Anyway, this strange week of results continues...congrats to Dodig. ;) but-it's-ok 02-05-2009, 02:22 PM That was not very nice. How much did you lose? I didn't lose anything by giving my opinion. I am at the end of my patience with a guy who yes has talent...but for wasting talent.. He wouldn't know what hell was if it hit him in the face, but I have a feeling he's going to find out... bjurra 02-05-2009, 02:25 PM Wake up to the light,Gulbis has finally convinced me today that he is in need of URGENT psychiatric treatment.. Did you watch the match? Ernest is sure as hell trying hard to win the 2009 underachiever award. but-it's-ok 02-05-2009, 02:28 PM Did you watch the match? Ernest is sure as hell trying hard to win the 2009 underachiever award. Watch the match,I'm glad as hell I didn't. A trip to the dentist is much more enjoyable than watching that guy throw his talent down the nearest garbage shoot in front of paying spectators. Disgraceful. As for Dodig,he's made sure he'll achieve more than Erno will, because he WANTS it more. GuiroNl 02-05-2009, 02:29 PM Honestly, in all the time I have followed professional mens tennis this closely, I haven't come across a more overrated player. How about Donald Young? I agree though, Gulbis is massively overrated. -Evita- 02-05-2009, 02:30 PM Simply pathetic :help: duong 02-05-2009, 02:32 PM dodig win against great player such as andreev, than against gulbis(he is even better than andreev) in straight sets (he is neighbour of cilic in međugorje and one of the best friend, soo it's must be fluid of cilic;)). he had also beaten Koubek in the qualies :yeah: Montego 02-05-2009, 02:32 PM I don't think that Gulbis is overrated in terms of his technique. He's got big game and good shots, actually he's got all to be a great player imo. He's got spoiled mentality however. He isn't a fighter and imo he doesn't care if he loses or not (maybe I am wrong here). I think that all he needs is a kick in the ass and should be fine. He is still young. GlennMirnyi 02-05-2009, 02:34 PM Hmmmmm Gulbis has powerful shots, but that doesn't mean he has a complete game. richie21 02-05-2009, 02:34 PM Ernest is sure as hell trying hard to win the 2009 underachiever award. Don't worry, there are at least 2 players who will always beat him for that award.:o Langers 02-05-2009, 02:35 PM Seriously what the heck Gulbis? :o :o gaitare 02-05-2009, 02:37 PM Mr Consistency strikes again. Has he established a record of 2nd round losses in a row? I still expect him to get it together one day. duong 02-05-2009, 02:37 PM Don't worry, there are at least 2 players who will always beat him for that award.:o I can see one of them from you :D, but who's the second ? ;) valexie03 02-05-2009, 02:38 PM Another strange result, but congrats to Dodig :worship: But Mario will win this tournament for sure ;) GlennMirnyi 02-05-2009, 02:38 PM To consider Gasquet's results underachievement, you must think he's as talented as McEnroe... DanielHU 02-05-2009, 02:41 PM I can see one of them from you :D, but who's the second ? ;) Gasquet and Nalbandian Szary 02-05-2009, 02:41 PM Someone said Dodig is playing like top10 player. Is he realy that good? GlennMirnyi 02-05-2009, 02:41 PM Nalbandian, if anything, is an overachiever. Someone who doesn't take care of his own career... Horatio Caine 02-05-2009, 02:43 PM How about Donald Young? I agree though, Gulbis is massively overrated. Yep, was expecting that counter-argument. :) Imo, I reckon there were a good few that fell off the Young "hype wagon" after his first few performances as a WC in ATP events. But with Gulbis, the hype just never seems to end...each week there are the same comments made about him, and his tournament prospects (probably by the same blinded posters). Watch closely next week... :tape: TankingTheSet 02-05-2009, 02:44 PM Someone said Dodig is playing like top10 player. Is he realy that good? I guess he is playing well this week but it would be rather premature to call him top-10. The guy is ranked 400's, let's first see if he come close to the top-100. richie21 02-05-2009, 02:48 PM To consider Gasquet's results underachievement, you must think he's as talented as McEnroe... The guy was already expected to win a GS at the tender age of 9(he was on the cover of the most famous and serious french tennis magazine at that age, such a unique specimen he was in the younger categories) and he beat Federer at 18 blastering him with winners in a period where Federer was almost invincible and you're still joking at the affirmation that Gasquet has underachieved so far(best title he won so far is......Lyon!)??? :haha::haha::haha::haha::haha: richie21 02-05-2009, 02:49 PM Gasquet and Nalbandian Spot on....but that was not too hard, was it?;) tennismaster882001 02-05-2009, 02:53 PM I can't believe this result! :o Gulbis played very good against Tursunov, it was a great match, he is extremly talented, so this is a shocker! Defeating a player doesn't mean much unless you win the title that week, so... richie21 02-05-2009, 02:55 PM Gasquet has one of the worst forehands in the top 50 and you're telling me he should have won a GS? You're walking on thin ice, mate. As good as his backhand is, it doesn't automatically make him a great player. Not a GS but a Master Serie at least! Even Berdych has already won a MS! He defeated Federer, okay. Defeating a player doesn't mean much unless you win the title that week, so... Well,to be fair,he had to face Nadal, the god of clay, after that....and if i remember well,he gave him a lot of trouble. And what about reaching 2 MS finals at the age of 20? Szary 02-05-2009, 02:59 PM I guess he is playing well this week but it would be rather premature to call him top-10. The guy is ranked 400's, let's first see if he come close to the top-100. I know he overdo calling it top10 performance but Dodig seems to have a great time lately with easy wins with Andreev and now Gulbis :wavey: zerocool_ 02-05-2009, 03:23 PM lol, whole tournament fixed ? :) duong 02-05-2009, 03:28 PM Not a GS but a Master Serie at least! But other semi-finalists were Ljubicic, Ancic and Karlovic, I think. And Petzschner and Kunitsyn have also won greater tournaments. zerocool_ 02-05-2009, 03:37 PM Ye i know, it was joke :) But there is realy alot suprises, hope Troicki can win whole thing, but it will be hard :) petar_pan 02-05-2009, 03:44 PM dodig(he was born 2.4.1985) was at career-high no. 256(15.10.2007). he was mainly injured last year,so jusr foe that reason he was down. soo i presume he would be in top 200(maybe close to top 100) without that injuries. with this result he will be about no. 353. he beated wessels(in that time no. 151) and golubev (in that time no. 132) in qualies of marseille last year. the commentator on croatian televeison said that gulbis played really well but he said dodig was even better.he said he is really good. Igaarg 02-05-2009, 03:51 PM Gulbis has the talent, but miura 02-05-2009, 03:54 PM Are you kidding me? Whats gotten into Ernests lately? Ernest played a very bad tie break losing 6 points in a row. He played worse in the second set, and he made DFs several times in both sets in important moments. Dodig had nothing to lose and he confirmed that his win over Andreev wasn't a fluke. He serves well like all Croats. Not as well as Karlovic or Cilic but close. His first serve was often over 200 km/h and it wasn't easy to return it. Dodig could also play well in baseline rallies now and then." Gulbis about the match: "I was upset about some line calls. In the first set at 5-5 and deuce, I served an ace but it was called out although it was far from being out. In the tie break, the chair umpire had to overrule four line calls which were all in favour of my opponent and we had to replay the points. I couldn't forget these calls in the second set. It's my fault that I lost. I could feel that Dodig was serving well and moving well around the court but it was still in my hands. I didn't play well enough to win. I played the first match on the other court; the center court was a bit slower and I couldn't finish the points with a winner often enough." About his goals for the season: "This year I'm playing much better than before. I don't have a particular goal towards the ranking. I hope to play as well as I have recently and if I can do that my ranking will surely rise." Nathaliia 02-06-2009, 09:29 AM Another goat was born, what can you do. Bilbo 02-06-2009, 09:41 AM About his goals for the season: "This year I'm playing much better than before. I don't have a particular goal towards the ranking. I hope to play as well as I have recently and if I can do that my ranking will surely rise." :haha: what a mug. welcome to my signature. lazy as it can be -Evita- 02-06-2009, 10:39 AM Well, don't take it word for word. The interview got to the Latvian media via the Croatian journalist so it was probably translated from English to Latvian, then back to English. So some things may be inaccurate. Gulbis's tendency to get upset about line calls and lose his concentration because of that is nothing new unfortunately. He should learn to live with them. miura 02-06-2009, 11:29 AM Is it just me or does Gulbis only play at his best level against top 10 players? When he's up against people below the top 100 he puts on cruise control which obviously doesn't work very well.. Voo de Mar 02-06-2009, 12:02 PM Gulbis about the match: "I was upset about some line calls. In the first set at 5-5 and deuce, I served an ace but it was called out although it was far from being out. Voo de Mar 02-06-2009, 12:06 PM He probably ment "serving for 5-5". If he meant it, shouldn't complain because won 10th game on serve and broke Dodig in the following game what means the linesman misjuge didn't affect him in that stage of the match. -Evita- 02-06-2009, 12:21 PM Gulbis couldn't serve at 5:5 because Dodig was serving then :wavey: Trust you to catch that mistake  He probably meant the game at 6-5 when he was broken.
