Yes. He is.

One guy plays out an entire five set match with a freaking virus (he had cold sores all over his face. He looked like he had the PLAGUE), and takes his loss like a man, without giving any excuses to cheapen it, while the OTHER guy gets his pussy ass kicked all over the court, only to give up due to 'general soreness' (WTF??).

Djokovic, either act like a man, or retire. :cuckoo:

Murray is the GOAT.

Deboogle!.
01-27-2009, 11:30 PM
Lots of players have fought valiantly while injured only to lose. No need to single Murray out for great accolades. I can't think of any of the top players (except for perhaps novak) who haven't fought through some kind of injury or ailment only to go on to lose. Remember when Roddick played 2 5-setters at the 2003 Australian Open (the second of which was 21-19 in the 5th btw), he could barely walk and he had a badly busted wrist that kept him out for a few weeks, and he still finished his semi against Schuettler? Remember when Agassi could barely move against Nieminen at RG (one of the saddest matches I remember seeing) but he kept on playing just to give Nieminen the moment he deserved? If this is your criteria, it's hardly just Murray who is > Djokovic, it's a vast majority of the good players in the game. These guys play an individual sport and their egos are (mostly) too big to just give up. And I'd venture to say that the vast majority of these guys play til the end unless their injury is potentially career-ending.

Ok so dont say Murray>Nole then, because your embarrasing yourself. You can say you like Murray more or that Murray>Nole FOR YOU. But dont say something that is simply not true. Let me spell it out for you so that there can be no mistakes. A lot of people said Murray was the favorite for the AO including probably you but thats not important. What is important is that according to the stats Murray couldnt possibly be the favorite. You dont just go and win a slam because you feel like it. So clearly the stats does mean something and saying Murray is better then Nole shows complete ignorence. Even with Nole withdrawing he still did better then Murray. No. He's not. Not at all.

Murray should win at least something before he gets talkedup like this. He seems a nice and clever guy and has clearly matured as a player, but before he doesn't show that he is the real deal at the sams he is a hopeful and no more. If he retired tomorrow, he would be no more than a footnote in the history of open era tennis. Djokovic would be a paragraph, while Nadal and Federer would have their own chapter.

I don't really care about your premise or your personal opinion of either Murray or Djokovic, but I'm going to take issue with the underlined part of your quote simply because it seems to be devoid of any medical fact. Do you honestly believe that Murray played that match with a virus, and do you believe that virus caused his face to break out? Which virus does that? I just looked at pictures of him, he has two spots on his face near his mouth and both look like plain old young adult acne to me.

They weren't spots. They are called cold sores. They only appear when you are run down and your immune system is in the tank. And it has been confirmed that Murray is ill. It came out after the Melzer match that he had been forced to stay in bed and not practice. And now he's on antibiotics according to Darren Cahill.

He did look like something was wrong with him when I saw him playing that match with Verdasco. Brad kept saying that we shouldn't be fooled by his look because those are his tactics.

They don't give antibiotics for a virus, unless he developed secondary infection, like pneumonia or something, which might happen when your immune system is in the tank. Or they think he is in danger of it.

Was just using "virus" as a general term. I don't know what it is. All that is known is that he was bed bound since before the Melzer match and was on antibiotics. Apparently he's still on them according to Cahill and isn't fit to travel. Hopefully he's fit for Rotterdam.

Wow, I didn't know he was on antibiotics before Melzer match. Hopefully two weeks will be enough. Whatever it is, physical effort that he had to go through could definitely make it worse for him.

Cold sores dont usually attack your skin, those types of ulcer break out on softer tissue like your lips and inside your mouth. You have to have the virus already in your system to get them (but more than 50% of the population does anyway, I think). But I wanted an answer from the OP since he was the one who made the statement.

I know Murray is ill, I also heard the comments on ESPN earlier tonight, but I knew something was wrong with him before he lost. I only saw a few minutes of the match, but when I turned on my TV right before he got broken in the fifth set, he looked horrible. His skin tone was ashen, not pale or even flushed, always a bad sign. Gio is right, if he's on antibiotics then it's an infection (tonsilitis?) not a virus.

They basically break out when your immune system is in the shitter. So if you're fighting off the flu, for example, cold sores will likely appear while your immune system is fighting off the virus.

Coulnd't agree more with this. Sure, Novak is not the most loveable guy when it comes to retiring but that doesn't put Murray above him. A comparison like Murray>Nole is just pathetic, and it's not strange that by this stupid comparison you induce reactions with stats of achievements.
And like this, you can say a lot more about both. Murray for one is a brat and all negativity on court, Djoko isn't. But I'm not starting with that, because it's a stupid and subjective discussion.

Next time, act a little smarter and just say: Murray is a nicer and more respectable guy when it comes to retiring in matches, then people maybe take your thread serious.
