In 07, Federer's win over Roddick was filled with beautiful shots and excellent poise. Today against Pony boy doo doo he absolutely bludgeoned the krarp out of the ball and was the worlds nastiest and meanest school boy bully. It was pretty hilarious.. hey look at me, I can head the tennis ball over the net.

i picked Federer in five.

I always hate Federer- Roddick matches, and I get very nervous about them.

I know that Federer likes to peak in SFs and Fs, but we saw how he played against Safin, and then how he played against Berdych. Here is hoping that Federer shows up in awesome mode and takes it in 3. :)

I think Roddick's chance of an upset are slim, but I haven't seen Roddick play this well in years. That win in Miami did and will still do wonders for Roddick's confidence. He is as fit as ever, his serve is cracking, his volleys are better, his forehand is ripping and I even saw a few backhand DTL winners from his side.

Roger is the clear fave, but not to the extent that everyone seems to believe.

Roddick is a big man now, and he's got big serve and big balls, but hey Fed got larger cojones. Anyway if Rod keeps high percentage of first delivery it could be a long match. Federer it's another galaxy of course, but serve and fight and some balls will save A-Rod.

Not to put down Roddick, but against Joke he didnt hit one winner from the baseline in the first set and was playing 10 feet behind the baseline. A night match will take a little pace off of Roddicks serve and he will have no power on his groundstrokes. If Fed gets Roddick's serve back and Fed dosesn't make a ton of unforced errors then Fed in 3 maybe four sets.

Roddick has a slim chance to win if he plays aggressively and goes for the "kill shot" like he was in the last 2 sets against Djokovic(which I suppose is easier to do when Novak was looking beaten by the conditions). Andy served brilliantly, but played very passively in the first set against Novak and he cannot afford to do that against Roger. But if Roger comes out like he did against Del Pony....Andy has no shot, nor does anyone else.

LleytonMonfils

So what your saying is if Roddick is able to hit a couple of baseline winners here and there he has a good chance in this match? That's what I'm reading. Hell Andy went into a first set TB without hitting a baseline winner, who does that? If he continues to serve the way he does anything is possible.

Roddick still doesn't hit the ball nearly well enough for him to beat Federer or even trouble him. He played well against Novak, but he still loops that forehand way too often and very rarely flattens it out (which he used to do all the time a few years ago).

Roddick has just become a steady baseline player with a big serve. Steady simply won't cut it.... Federer is defending the court so well and he will have Roddick on a string.

As a preview to the Roger/Andy match i thought id post this here. I like to see this kind of respect and was happy to see Andy giving Roger credit that he handles the media extremely well. Ive never been his biggest fan but this wins at least a little respect for him form me. As Andy says:

"He has nothing to prove. He's the greatest. He's created quite an animal for himself, where if someone wins a set they're questioning his form. The guy made two finals, a semi, and won a Slam last year, and people are saying he's off form. I think he deserves a lot more respect than that."

you right. But I still hope a surprise

Roddick may steal a set, but no more than that.

As always in major Fed/Roddick matches, Andy will throw everything at Federer, and may even lead in the first set, but Fed in the end always comes through.

Even though attacking the net against Federer has proved to be unsuccessful for Roddick, he should continue doing it anyway.

Yep. Djokovic can match Federer on the baseline and he’s got a great serve, it would’ve been a thrilling match. In fact all their slam matches have been a joy to watch, with the exception of the USO 2007 final.

Too bad Djokovic is out, he’s not the same player who dominated the first few months of 2008, and who ended the year on a high note winning the MC.

A slice straight to the Federer forehand so he doesn't even have to move is not going to get it done.

He has a better serve of return too so that even though he can't match Roddick's serve he wouldn't have been hurt as badly off the Federer serve.

Yeah! He returns very well and very aggressively, and can maintain it throughout the match.

Roddick’s return of serve though has to be the weakest in the top 50!
