Wimbledon 2008

As for other sports, when Liverpool knocked Inter Milan out of the Champions League last year. I had to be at a workshop the next day, and it was all everyone talked about (and to add insult to injury, everyone else supported Liverpool). The Englishmen in the group just couldn't shut up. I spent my breaks literally in hiding.

Wimbledon 2007, without a doubt. Those 4 break chances LITERALLY haunted me for months. I used to dream about them :tape:

I definately wouldn't say devistated, but the saddest I've ever been after a match:
1. 2004 Olympics gold medal match when Kiwi/Rainer blew 4 match points. :banghead:

Agreed. That loss, after having four championship points, was so painful to watch as a Martina fan. I have the match downloaded on my computer, and I can't even bring myself to watch the third set. It's so painful. :sobbing:

It was so painful to be a Hingis fan especially after RG 99, with all the defeats and the hating. After all her defeats you knew that billions of people were celebrating

Interesting...

Roddick is real tennis too?

Federer/Nadal at Wimbly in 2008.

Wanted so badly for him to beat Bjorn's record of 41 at Wimbly. :(

It's small consolation that he has the USO record of 35 and counting, so it doesn't hurt as much as it did then.

Next up would be Fed/Nadal at the French in 2007.

2003 Wimbledon I wonder what could have happened had the rain delay never come. The two players trajectories could have possibly been totally different. Roddick came with a display of full on power and its losses like this that made him change to the more passive style seen today. I can only take solace in the fact that he was able to take Federer to 4 on green clay and have no doubt he would have won if it was played on "real grass" whatever that is.

1st) Nadal d. Federer Roma 2006.

That one really hurt. He should have beaten him there. Had match points. Then there would not even be a record for Nadal (consecutive clay court wins). That ending sucked haha.

2nd) Nadal d. Federer Wimbledon 2008

After playing crap for two sets, and coming back to make it 2 sets all, I was convinced he would take the title. Didn't happen...

3rd) Safin d. Federer Australian Open 2005

many as a gasquet fan

Wimbledon 2008 4th round vs Murray
Roland Garros 2007 2nd round vs Vliegen
Davis Cup 2006 quarter finale France/Russia vs Tursunov
US Open first round vs Haas

the 1 and 2 were the worse but in different ways. When he plays beautifully for more than 2 sets and couldnt finish it.And when he couldnt play one single ball IN because of big tension(roland). This last one was a real frustrating match CAUSE you know he's able of so much better but couldnt deliver it that day.

Well he had some very devastating matchs but most of the time, when he lost them,he wasnt that confident.
Im waiting the day he'll have enough faith in him and his game and that he'll be "present" to win those "big matchs".
Im convinced this day is not that far anymore.:)

There's been a few, Safin's 2002 AO loss to Johansson, some of Federer's losses, Gasquet has lost a lot of matches and it's sad to see one of the most talented players in the game performing as poor as he is.

However, none of those put a tear to my eye, the one match is that Henman match against Ivanesevic, I remember watching it over 10 years ago, I was young back then and my understanding of tennis wasn't too good - but I was in tears after Henman didn't win the match after bagelling Ivanesevic (or was it 6-1?). Put's a shiver into my heart, must of dealt so much blow to poor old Tim..

Richie v Murray Wimbledon 4R

This was so hard to take, especially after Richie had played almost flawless tennis & was so close to having such a convincing easy straight sets win over Murray, Then Murray makes his move.... The Pro Murray crowd factor takes over, as the fading light settles into London , You knew Richie's Wimbledon Campaign was now gone, He must of felt like he didn't have any support with the PRO MURRAY CROWD getting louder & louder each game, I have never seen so much pain in a player eyes before.... Richie's eyes do tell things like they really are for him.... You could write a best seller with what he gives out with his eyes, it was so sad to watch it all take place. It turned into almost a emotional breakdown for Richie out on Centre Court.... & us as fans couldn't do a thing but wish it would all end,

Hope that Richie will get his sweet revenge on Murray & the Wimbledon Crowd & turn into the Golden Boy of Wimbledon..... I'm sure it was more the British Fantasy of we need a Hero as they had warmed to Richie with his great run the previous year

Not sure if you are allowed to discuss womens matches on this thread...... A few Wimbledon clashes

Above all it's the Wimbledon '07 final for me, no doubt. I was gutted beyond words can describe when Rafa lost after having 15-40 twice early in the fifth on Roger's serve.

Nadal's five set loss to Hewitt in the 4th round back at AO '05 pissed me the hell off too.

Oh, and Kucera bowing out of his only slam semi against Korda at the Australian Open was also heartbreaking, as he was my favorite player before he retired.

Okay and wrong forum but whatever, it's recent, and while I wasn't 'devastated', I was sorely disappointed when Dokic just fell short of the finishing line against Safina in the Quarters.

Either Youzhny's loss to Roddick in the SF of the US Open in 2006 (I think) or his loss to Tsonga in the QF in 2008 AO. I thought the AO loss was more devastating because if he had beaten Tsonga, he would've had a great chance to beat Nadal in the SF and possibly face Djokovic in the F.

Coria's loss was also quite devastating

I know this is the MTF, not WTF, but I was absolutely gutted after Seles lost to Sanchez-Vicario in the 1998 FO Final. Seles had just lost a lot of weight, improved her fitness, her father died, she had made a triumphant return from the stabbing... this would have been a sweet victory, but it was not to be.:sad:

On the men's side, when Federer lost to Nadal in the 08 Wimbledon final, I was more than devastated. I thought I might go postal. It still makes me angry when I think about it. :fiery:

oh lily, you are Seles' fan too? me too :D the stabbling incident made her my favourite :sad. I still remember that day, i was so sure that she was going to win coz she used to beat Sanchez, i was so shocked after knowing the results , and I was very sad that she lost to Graf, who forever linked with seles with this stabbling incident, beat her in 1995 us open, Graf is always lucky while seles has no lucks :bigcry::bigcry:

Nadal demolition of the Fed in Roland Garros 2008: I saw it live, it was ugly (first bagel in ten years...) and after that I was quite pessimistic on Fed's chances to win Roland Garros one day. The win this year was thus one of the greatest moments...

AO 2002: Safin's loss to Johansson is hard to top, even if I am used to disappointing defeats from my other favs.

A certain match my fav lost this year....
I felt like I wanted to go exile for a day...and I did so, hiding in the library for the whole afternoon and night...that scared myself too...I thought I must be too addicted to tennis and should seek help somewhere...felt so devastated and depressed...there must be something wrong with me :o

Federer loosing and that is sad? OK, 15 slams, 50mills from tour, plus 100+ from sponsors. Plus personality, plus ourfits... And I should cry when he lose sometimes. That is scary pathetic.

How about guys that reached once in a life time SF or F on slams or on any ATP tournament. That is devastating for me.

SF Wimbley 1986. Lendl 3 - 2 Zivojinovic

F Newport 2009. Querrey 1 - 2 Ram

sorry for that, but its normal that Berdych lost to Federer, so no need to feel sad :tape:True, but Berdych beat him before, so he defo has the potential... But still Berdych had his chances in that match, played a poor game in the 3rd set to lose it, same with the 4th.

not being sarcastic, Rafa's success cannot be match with Roger who has more slams/titles ...... i guess i won't feel sad any more if rafa loses a match only when he won 10th slams

Oh I get it, it's ok to feel sorry for Rafa who isn't that successful afterall, but a shame when you feel sorry for Fed... Makes sense... I guess when Sampras lost im Wimbledon 01 you couldn't possibly feel sorry for him since he already owned the slam record back then ;)

not a shame when you feel sorry for Fed, but a bit strange for me coz he surely could still win a lot more in the future

yes, its true, i really didn't feel sad for Sampras coz he had already won 7 wimby, especially his exit made chance for poor old goran to finally win one wimby:cool:
