He's not really sneaking on anybody. He beat a couple of players that he should have beaten. He's ranked 13th in the world after all. There's what surprised me about the article: "His backhand is one of the best sights in tennis." For sure now, that backhand shot has gone from an ugly duckling to something pleasant to the eye and effective.
Monfils is still settling into his game however far he makes it into this tournament. Sixth month down the road, if he still with Rasheed, that's when you'll start seeing the real Monfisl emerge.

Flair in the same sentence as Monfils?

Sounds like a heavy contradiction to me.

He's defo getting places, and imo is pretty much a complete player now who can make it to semis and finals on a regular basis.

Monfils will break top ten this year no doubt about that,he seems to be maturing and thinking on court. hope he sticks with Rasheed who has managed to make him more disciplined.
GOOD LUCK GAEL !!

What's completely ridiculous is saying that it's only since Rasheed is his coach that Monfils has moved from 44th ranking to 13th ranking, and changed comparing to 2006.

The Monfils we had seen in Roland-Garros was very different from the previous one, and his coach was not Rasheed.

Once he figures out the movement aspect with the extra muscle he will be a definite threat, hopefully an injury free threat as well.

Yeah, he's definatly looking GREAT and once he adjusts to his new body he'll be even better, however I think that if they meet, Gilles will probably be able to out think and out-craft Gael. Definatly.

Gael is probably my second favorite player on tour. Id love for him to make the semi's and smoke Murray if he is there. And he's got the talent to do it too.

I just wish he would wash his hair, then I'll support him.

The Monfils we had seen in Roland-Garros was very different from the previous one, and his coach was not Rasheed. He said Rasheed helped him with tips on diet and exercice like foregoing junk food, his serve has improved a lot enough to be his go to shot and he no longer stands far from the baseline, all this is happening during Rasheed s tenure.:p

The Monfils we had seen in Roland-Garros was very different from the previous one, and his coach was not Rasheed.Well, it's true, he was ranked around #40 when he started working with Rasheed at the very end of July 2008 (#59 before RG, #32 after RG, but he moved down again in the rankings when he missed Wimbledon).

And the changes in his game and in his attitude (focus during his matches, discipline off the court) do coincide with his time with Rasheed, so it's perfectly fine to stress that imo. He's a different player than in Roland-Garros.
