AO R2: Igor Andreev(RUS)[18] def. Ernests Gulbis(LAT) 6-4 6-4 5-7 3-6 6-4Fedexex 01-22-2009, 10:50 AM Ernie:o:smash: you are such a choker:sobbing: was 4-2 up in the fifth:( a fightback for nothing:rolleyes: welldone Igor:yeah: TheBoiledEgg 01-22-2009, 10:52 AM great escape Igor PHEW was looking a gonner LleytonMonfils 01-22-2009, 10:53 AM Gulbis lost that match, he had it in his back pocket. Still trying to figure out how Andreev won that match. His game is soooo ugly at times, like just soooo damn ugly. tenalyser 01-22-2009, 10:53 AM It looked like Gulbis didn't even care he lost, strange fellow he is. Doggy 01-22-2009, 10:54 AM What an idiot. Saw Gulbis come back from two set to love down and lead 4-2 and then it was shit  dark_ambient 01-22-2009, 10:54 AM Gulbo is such a headcase. :smash: Voo de Mar 01-22-2009, 10:55 AM Poor Gulbis with his neverending story of close defeats :o Andreev's involving in tight matches is amazing considering his style of play. Anyway Igor is a better match up for Blake than Gulbis :yeah: stzenit 01-22-2009, 10:56 AM I enjoyed this match watched most of it. What a passing shot in the game where Andreev broke back in the 5th. First two sets Gulbis was 0/0 on Break point opportunities and Andreev was 2/8. Then Andreev's game plan stopped working and Gulbis found consistency. Final set was great, some nice hitting Gulbis was up 40-0 *4-5 in the fifth then Andreev won 5 straight points on the Gulbis serve to take it out!!! Wooo this has made my day  Andreev :worship: two 5 setters and didn't look to tired in the 5th whereas Gulbis was cramping up. Good luck against Blake!!! Ad Wim 01-22-2009, 10:57 AM Gulbis will be remembered as the biggest talent that didn't make it to top 10... Iván 01-22-2009, 10:58 AM Gulbis really needed this for his confindence. Huge blow. dr.Damir 01-22-2009, 10:59 AM Gulbis chokes too often, I can't see him as top 10 player. *Ljubica* 01-22-2009, 10:59 AM Thoroughly enjoyed this match - and congrats to Igor :D LleytonMonfils 01-22-2009, 11:00 AM Does anyone know how many 1st serves Gulbis got in his last two service games? Seriously I don't remember one! Sometimes I really don't think the kid is thinking about what he is doing out there. HeretiC 01-22-2009, 11:00 AM I don't know what to say, such a shame that he somehow managed to blew this after such a comeback and being a break up. He looked like he ran out of motivation after he got that break in the fifth. Even after being re-broken he had 40:0 lead on his serve for a 5-5. Unlike him Andreev in the fifth set looked like he want this win badly and he got it. mickymouse 01-22-2009, 11:02 AM 2 consecutive 5 set matches for Andreev and he looked like he could still go on for another couple of hours. gulzhan 01-22-2009, 11:05 AM Good job, Igor! :yeah: Now get some rest before Saturday, I guess small chance they will give him later hr :( flexeter 01-22-2009, 11:06 AM ernie :( you brainless choker...one more match like this and i will remove you from my sig! seljanin 01-22-2009, 11:07 AM Ehh... crap :( Kinda good I decided not to skip university due to this match. finishingmove 01-22-2009, 11:10 AM andreev fought well to win this, it looked like it was all over for him. but gulbis has all the reasons to blame himself Voo de Mar 01-22-2009, 11:13 AM ernie :( you brainless choker...one more match like this and i will remove you from my sig! stzenit 01-22-2009, 11:13 AM   MrJ 01-22-2009, 11:16 AM Nice win Igor, but two 5 set matches in a row will come back to haunt him. Gulbis is a joke!! -Evita- 01-22-2009, 11:21 AM I don't know what to say, such a shame that he somehow managed to blew this after such a comeback and being a break up. He looked like he ran out of motivation after he got that break in the fifth. Even after being re-broken he had 40:0 lead on his serve for a 5-5. Unlike him Andreev in the fifth set looked like he want this win badly and he got it. I agree with everything in this post. It was strange to see Gulbis lose 5 straight points on his serve, it seemed he just didn't care enough to make the effort. Maybe he was just tired  Langers 01-22-2009, 11:34 AM I just got home from this match, what a friggen choke by Gulbis. Had a 4-2 lead in the 5th set, even still he had 40-0 in the final game of the match. Crowd was completely on his side, pity he had to choke it away, mainly thanks to ridiculous drop shots. :o Still, great match, well played Andreev. Huntress555 01-22-2009, 11:47 AM Im so gutted! Ernests wasted his chances, he looked like he was tired though and just wanted to get off the court, and his legs were starting to trouble him, the commentators mentioned. :(:( CooCooCachoo 01-22-2009, 11:50 AM Very poor stuff from Gulbis in that final set :o Those drop shots are just awful. Bilbo 01-22-2009, 12:00 PM Gulbis is an overrated player of the highest order just like Berdych at his time. bizzle 01-22-2009, 12:00 PM over hyped player of the decade yumo 01-22-2009, 12:07 PM Gulbis is a joke!! I'm so fed up with your BS. Cut the crap  Blake is a joke ( He has lost to Gulbis twice :haha: ) please mind your own business :p marcRD 01-22-2009, 12:08 PM Seriously, you cant judge a 20 year old player like that. I find it unbelivable how very, very young players like Del Potro and Gulbis are judged so hard, the same was true for Murray before he matured and became a great, great player. Just stop it, in 1-2 years I think Gulbis will not only be top 10, he will be a contender in slams and possibly the 5th to enter the mix with the top 4. Gulbis is not a choker and he is not overhyped, his hype is very low considering the amount of talent I see in him. Greatness comes with time and experience to most players (except freaks of nature like Nadal and Hewitt). People are acting like this guy has years of choking experience on the tour and is an endless hopeless case, I didnt even know who he was 1 year ago, first time I saw him in the french open I was very impressed and he is even better this year. It is not like he is a Mathieu with a decade of choking and talentwasting in his bag. Tess Gray 01-22-2009, 12:13 PM Ernests :sobbing::( Are you ever going to get past 2nd round?! Congrats to Igor though:) marcRD 01-22-2009, 12:17 PM Ernests :sobbing::( Are you ever going to get past 2nd round?! Congrats to Igor though:) Ehhm, you remember French open last year? marcRD 01-22-2009, 12:21 PM Hey, I am swedish and our biggest "hope" is a 24 year old brainless choker without touch or feeling for the game named Söderling. Just to remind you, this guy cant get past 3rd round in a slam even if his life was depending on it. Even Bennetau was just too much talent to handle for Söderling i nthe French open 3rd round last year. Gulbis was in quaterfinal in the French open, his worst surface when he was 19 years old. At 21-22 he could be winning his 1st slam. yavore 01-22-2009, 12:25 PM Crowd was completely on his side, pity he had to choke it away, mainly thanks to ridiculous drop shots. :o Actually the crowd did him (Gulbis) a bad favor. They really pissed Andreev off and he fought like mad till the end. Always admired players who can beat their opponents despite noisy hysteric crowd ;) Very well done Andreev. MrJ 01-22-2009, 12:26 PM I'm so fed up with your BS. Cut the crap  Blake is a joke ( He has lost to Gulbis twice :haha: ) please mind your own business :p When Gulbis reaches the top 10 then we can talk... until then he continues to be a joke given the talent he has at this disposal. :) Tess Gray 01-22-2009, 12:29 PM Ehhm, you remember French open last year? I didn't mean it literally  Just trying to say that he hasn't played well in the last few months... geez:rolleyes: Forehander 01-22-2009, 12:37 PM Calm down this is his first five setter... Machiavelli 01-22-2009, 01:26 PM What this little punk did to me, just unreal, DF and dropshotting himslef into defeat, no brain, no gameplan, no nothing... Just pathetic from Gulbis, how someone can be so brainless, this is beyond me.... JMG 01-22-2009, 01:34 PM Ernests :retard: So unnecassary, especially against this opponent. gjr 01-22-2009, 01:35 PM i was at the first 4 sets of this match. Wish i'd stayed for the 5th but i went to watch Murray. After the first 2 sets i was wondering what all this hype was about with Gulbis. I quite fancy Andreev to beat Blake on Saturday. miura 01-22-2009, 01:44 PM Gulbis will prosper. Mark my words. He just needs to get some more consitency and a few important matches under his belt. MrJ 01-22-2009, 01:49 PM I quite fancy Andreev to beat Blake on Saturday. Look at the head to head and im sure you will change your mind ;) Crazy Girl 01-22-2009, 01:51 PM A suffered battle against his abdominals pains.A good win, too.Congratulations Igor!:worship::worship::wavey: rocketassist 01-22-2009, 02:19 PM Andreev is one lucky shit. Grinder mug. Ernie should have put him away :o Bilbo 01-22-2009, 02:21 PM Just pathetic from Gulbis, how someone can be so brainless, this is beyond me.... what's beyond me is that he has the most fans in here. a player who doesn't give it his all. groundstroke 01-22-2009, 02:24 PM Remember when Gulbis choked amazingly in that one match in the summer season to this 1bh player who is a headcase? Forgot his name, but Gulbis was 5-1 up and lost 7-5, this is just as bad. Voo de Mar 01-22-2009, 02:50 PM Calm down this is his first five setter... Third, first in Grand Slam. Remember when Gulbis choked amazingly in that one match in the summer season to this 1bh player who is a headcase? Forgot his name, but Gulbis was 5-1 up and lost 7-5, this is just as bad. Acasuso. Last year he lost "won" matches also to Davydenko, Nalbandian and Gonzalez :o He should have led also 2-0 in sets against Roddick in New York, but lost 1-3. If he doesn't stop to choke, in the future someone will write a book about his bitter defeats instead of his big victories. safinalium 01-22-2009, 02:54 PM Geez, you're being TOO hard on Ernests, he's still young, give him a break... With a little more experience and control I have a feeling that we will see a lot of great things from him in the near future. Hope that things will only get better for him this year despite the bad start :D Crazy Girl 01-22-2009, 03:12 PM Andreev is one lucky shit. Grinder mug. Ernie should have put him away :oSir rocketassist...:rolleyes::p gambit84 01-22-2009, 05:20 PM is not supposed that this guy is going to become very strong? :haha: atm he sucks :haha: go Andreev :rocker: GlennMirnyi 01-22-2009, 05:35 PM Gulbis lost that match, he had it in his back pocket. Still trying to figure out how Andreev won that match. His game is soooo ugly at times, like just soooo damn ugly. You like Monfils' and you call Andreev's game ugly? You're in a high level of fanboyism. oh la la. 01-22-2009, 05:38 PM Igor, what a great surprise *snowflake* 01-22-2009, 05:45 PM Gulbis has been riding off on his potential for a while now and it's about time to see him prove it, cause the best ranking of 38 doesn't really cut it. Anyways, congrats to Igor for managing to pull it through. Black Adam 01-22-2009, 05:48 PM Go home you billionaire ballbasher. Enjoy the jet home. fast_clay 01-22-2009, 06:14 PM i agree the guy is still young... but... f***... for gulbis fans: a few more consecutive GS chokes (re: the roddick set 4-2 up choke) and you're looking at some lasting damage... the will to win is something you are born with or into, i am yet to see it on a supermarket shelf... will be good for the kid to work away early this year and get himself a seeding into the FO... or maybe dad can buy him a seeding... ClaudiuS 01-22-2009, 06:32 PM Nice win Andreev. :yeah: But it will be his last one here :o FedFan_2007 01-22-2009, 06:38 PM I don't understand the trashing of Igor, his game is very solid. Vida 01-22-2009, 07:05 PM IA :yeah: FedFan_2007 01-22-2009, 08:51 PM It's time for Igor to shine, I wouldn't be shocked if he won it all! leng jai 01-22-2009, 10:07 PM I don't understand the trashing of Igor, his game is very solid. The only reason you like Igor is because he took Fedmug to 5 sets. Byrd 01-22-2009, 10:10 PM Horrible choke, this guy is the next safin minus the slams and titles. FedFan_2007 01-22-2009, 10:21 PM The only reason you like Igor is because he took Fedmug to 5 sets. How many besides Nadal have done it? He earned major props for taking Fed to the limit. leng jai 01-23-2009, 12:32 AM How many besides Nadal have done it? He earned major props for taking Fed to the limit. So you must love Haasi then. FedFan_2007 01-23-2009, 12:35 AM So you must love Haasi then. Of course I do. One handed backhands rule! :worship: Fired Up! 01-23-2009, 07:08 AM Gulbis is the most overrated player at the moment. :o Igor :yeah: | |
