Quite an upset here  Did not think Tursunov would struggle as much with the likes of Peya, who cannot do a great deal from the baseline. Still, this should be considered the Austrian's best surface I guess.

If Petzschner/Peya are to do any damage in doubles, Peya needs these kind of wins to get his singles ranking up though. Good start of the year for him after an uninspiring 2008. Tursunov did fend off some MPs while serving to stay in the match at 3-5, but Peya served it out after that.

It's well known that Peya is a Spartan, so he can beat even better players like Tursunov on a good day. :yeah:

It's well known that Peya is a Spartan. Now he has a good chance against C.Rochus. :yeah:

It's also well-known that Peya is really no solid Top 100 player. He's a good player, but Tursunov is much better.

And Rochus lost to Stakhovsky.

Is it too much to hope for that Tursunov has a consistent year in 2009!

Rochus was leading clearly. Stakh might be even easier to beat for Peya.

I agree that Stakhovsky would be an easier opponent for Peya than Rochus. Could be heading towards breakers though.

I don´t really know what goes on in Tursunov´s head. Last year he played small challengers in december, and now that the bigger tournaments begin, he loses a match like this. Maybe he should have rested like everyone else.

CG when you're right, you're right. Anybody who wonders why this happened have a look at his picture thread. Let's just say if he needs glasses to see boobs that big, God help him trying to see a tennis ball

In all fairness, he didn't play small Challengers; Helsinki and Dnepropetrovsk were among the strongest ones in the 2008 season, especially for indoor events.

Well you´re right about that, my bad. What I meant was that maybe he should have taken some time off instead of extending his season so long. But what do I know, maybe Peya was just on fire today!

Horrendous start to the season :help:

Stick to those meaningless challengers, Mitya. You won't be seeded at AO and other big events anymore.

I believe it was a combination of several things (1 - Tursunov wasn't healthy, how can his 1st serve winning % be so low? This is nonsense 2) Tursunov played bad, bad means that he is a simple ballbasher with no patience at all, sometimes Tursunov is exactly on this mode 3) Peya played a very good match, actually why doesn't Peya play like this more often?)
