A special thread for Doha before the down under thread

He has a WC, the one which was for Haas in fact. He plays against Junqueira first round

[1] Nadal vs Santoro
Q vs Q
Hajji vs Devilder
Hernych vs [5] Monfils

[4] Roddick vs Navarro
Junqueira vs Clement
Troicki vs Hanescu
Youzhny vs [b][6] Andreev

[7] Tursunov vs Q
Stakhovsky vs Rochus, C
Petzschner vs Chardy
Montanes vs [3] Murray

[8] Kohlschreiber vs Q
Hernandez vs Vliegen
Seppi vs Gremelmayr
Starace vs [2] Federer

Our "dwarf" team are not lucky, there will face Nestor/Zimonjic lol http://www.atpworldtour.com/en/common/TrackIt.asp?file=/1/posting/2009/451/MDD.pdf

How nice that they gave that wild card to Arnaud. :)

Why did he get a WC
Good for him anyway.
But, after just watching "Australia", I can say I would have prefered to play the qualifs of the qualifs in Darwin, Brisbane, Ayers Rock city (lol) or any one else aussie tournament, rather than Doha :o

Before Irina reminds me again the logic of his choice, I would say: "Le coeur a ses raisons que la raison ignore"

he was very close to get direct access in Doha's Maindraw anyway since he was 1st alternate after Massu's withdrawal. In Brisbane the cut off was so high that he would have had to play qualies anyway.
I am happy he got Tommy's wildcard and the draw could have been worse..
Good luck Arnaud!!!!

As for the WC, there are 3 ATP tournaments and 2 Challengers this week, giving a WC to Arnaud is not such a bad choice, the most of the others play somewhere else.

And thanks for the nice expression, I'll make sure to remember it as I certainly will have an occasion to use it lol

I think Arnaud was lucky with his draw. Well, Junqueira is one of those South American players who can play not only on clay, but still he prefers slower surfaces. So I see Arnaud as a favorite here - unless he keeps playing as a Top 200 player
Doubles draw is quite tough but I wouldn't underestimate our boys.

6-1 6-2 against Junqueira. But the match was quite long for such score, so I guess there were many deuces (or argument with the umpire ). The next is Roddick though, so he'd better concentrate on doubles :o

MTF has been quite slow lately, maybe that's the reason lol

Hopefully you'll keep seeing them this weekend/next week as well ;)

I hope the center court for tomorrow.
Many deuce yes but only 3 i think on Arnaud's serve and only one break point to defend. The deuce were mostly on Diego's serve and to be honest i don't remember if there was a diego's service game where Arnaud didn't reach 40? Well Diego should go back to challengers on clay

Our lovely litlle team have lost  3-6/1-6

A pity that they had to face the world's team #1. They had their chances anyway, but they nicely blew them :(

I think the match was moved to the centre court. In the first set Arnico had two break points already in the very first game on Zimonjic's serve, but they missed both opportunities. Then they had problems on every Nico's serve (and on the most of Arnaud's), though Nico did serve an ace once  Number one team had two match balls on another Nico's serve, but les petits managed to hold it, then made a re-break but then Arnaud lost his serve and the set

The second set was ridiculous so I didn't really follow it :o But I do hope we'll get to see this team again!

Edit: Arnaud does get the Center Court for tomorrow while the other Frenchies don't :ras:

Yes their match have been moved on center court but i found only pics of Nestor/Zimonjic for the moment :o It was a tough draw but on the other hand both had a very nice draw in single first round

Center court means TV coverage :) I saw some matches on b365 today and hopes to see Arnaud tomorrow

There are also a stream on Betfair (I couldn't access it as it's not available in my country, but I'm pretty sure it was working, just the quality is doubtful) and here: http://www.atdhe.net/live-tv-2024.html (this one was working fine for me, at the moment it's not available because there are no matches).

Though I'm not sure that it'll be a match worthy of watching :o

Thanks for all the links. Pour b365 j'ai rien fait d'autre que m'inscrire et cliquer sur la petite camera au dessous du tableau de score donc je ne sais pas . If the match is too horrible to watch  it's easy to stop the streaming lol

Poor Arnaud, Abu Dhabi airline had lost his suitcases :devil:. He has been four days without his luggages. He has buy clothes in Doha. Otherwise he says that his last win against a top 10 was in Queen's in 07' and he feels better physically;

It confirms that Arnaud will play Sydney's qualies in the end of the week unless he beats Roddick and will have to stay longer in Doha.
Yes their match have been moved on center court but i found only pics of Nestor/Zimonjic for the moment :o
I talked to the guy who took those pics of Nestor/Zimonjic (actually I must have talked to a half of Doha's locals interested in tennis), he says he didn't shoot the other team  So I officially give up. It's just absolutely ridiculous, usually I'm able to get pictures even from some small Challengers in a remote corner which don't have a website - and this match was on a cente court of quite a big ATP event  :help:

Anyway there is one photo of Arnaud from his singles match. I guess he always has an extra bandana and an extra pair of glasses in his pocket, even despite the absence of the luggage lol

Lost 3-6/5-7

I missed a lot of first set because i had other things to do but he can have some regrets especially after his early break when he was *2-1 40-00 on his serve :o

The physio came at the beginning of second set because Arnaud got some problems of breathe it seems. Some very long rallies between the guys, some nice and brilliant things from Arnaud but also stupids UE or bad choices. And this Roddick when he is 30-00 down on his serve he serves two aces in a row . Roddick won easily his serves in second set while Arnaud had to work hard to hold to finally lost it at 5-5. I found that Andy doing well on returns. Arnaud had 3 breaks points to come back but missed them  and lost the match.

I found Arnaud more consistant in his strokes but his serve was not enough safe today and it's a pity to see him play a brilliant shot and just after a stupid UE :o. He was quite tired also at the end. Well i enjoy to see him play nice shots he was really a fighter on court. He needs to improve his serve, avoid the stupid errors but he has still nice shot in his racket. This second set was interesting to watch for me and it was a long time i don't see a stream with Arnaud since Lyon but nothing compare it was much better today ;)

Bruno & Nico Devilder was there.

I don't know for first set i just put an eye on streaming sometimes but second set was entertaining :) It was a long time i don't see such winners from Arnaud especially with his forehand but at the same times these stupid errors  I hope he will continue like that and not be frustrated by the errors and loss. Now he can fly with Nico & Bruno to Sydney and try to reconver from jet lag.

Tennistalk makes also a summary http://www.tennistalk.com/en/match_report/Qatar_ExxonMobil_Open/2009/Andy_Roddick_-_Arnaud_Clement

He says that he missed lucidity on some point but he's fine because he played better than during 90% of last season. He goes in Sydney to play qualies.

My best friend is going to Melbourne, so I ordered her to take lots of Arno and Bruno pics :D

And they always advise to bring important stuff in your cabin luggage, so I guess that's where he packs the glasses and bandana's
