yeah thats true..
if he had an easy draw and won some easy matches it wuld only give him false confidence.
Its good that he gets tested early on.

Marcos' match is scheduled to take place on Monday.

Magic Monday line-up
Tennis Australia Saturday 3 January 2009

Brisbane International organisers are confident they have assembled one of the best scheduled days of tennis in Queensland in decades.

“Both Monday’s day and night sessions have been stacked with a tantalising blend of emerging local talent, athletes on the comeback, crowd favorites, a Davis Cup hero as well as some Grand Slam winners and finalists, including two former world No.1 players,” a delighted Brisbane International tournament director Steve Ayles explained today. “Just look at the great array of names … Baghdatis, Ivanovic, Mauresmo, Verdasco, Dokic, Safarova and a couple of local kids in Holland and Tomic .”

“Magic Monday” starts with Brisbane teenager Isabella Holland making her Sony Ericsson WTA Tour debut on Pat Rafter Arena against 65th-ranked Czech Lucie Safarova.

The much-loved 2006 Australian Open finalist Marcos Baghdatis makes his eagerly awaited return to the tour next with a difficult task against super consistent Fin Jarkko Nieminen, who finished the year ranked 38 – the sixth time in the past seven years he has finished in the top 50.

oh crap.. he totally lost it after that 1st set:(, hopefully it's not injury-related

01-05-2009, 03:48 AM
7-5 1-6 4-6

It totally looked like the same bagy as last year no fitness improvements at all imo. :o

he had double-digits in DF as well:o

right now it looks like he will really need a good draw to make the 3rd round in Melbourne

After the 1st set, I went to sleep and I knew he'd win. I was thinking something like 75 61 or 75 62. GL in Kooyong and AO, Marcos. Hopefully he can get confidence against top 10 players in Kooyong.

I only watched the third set. Although he looked physically fine, his mental strength was sub-zeroish. Hope he finds a way to solve few problems in the coming weeks.

On current form, I personally don't expect him to win any match in Melbourne. Still, he can build his confidence at the MM tournaments coming after the AO. Oh well, we'll see what happens. :)
