Competing in his final TT tournament before heading into the Royal Navy, Marksman produced a faultless display to stun top seed Tytta!. in the opening round of the Medibank International in Sydney. The Brit who has been a fantastic role model for Tennis Tipping was backed by the large crowd hoping for a fitting finale to his career, and if the tournament follows the script he will unquestionably be crowned champion on Saturday. Brazilian beauty Tytta!. also endeared herself to the Australian crowd, voicing her disappointment to lose so early in one of her favourite tournaments but still looks in good shape to make a deep run in Melbourne next week. Fatigued 2nd seed Renaud also crashed out, last weeks finalist in Brisbane being beaten by SloKid. Many in the crowd were disappointed with the effort from the Kazakh, who still seemed somewhat hungover from his birthday and had a rather carefree approach, possibly preferring to avoid the prospect of a possible QF match with his beloved gulzhan. She saw off qualifier diego36arg.

3rd seed bavaria100's revival continued with victory over Wolves68 to reach the second round. The German, who threatened to retire from the game on various occasions last year now looks in prime position to capture the #1 spot in the upcoming weeks. However, a tough encounter with Peta Pan will test her, as the Aussie looked impressive in her win against scarface. Despite being mercilessly jeered by the Sydney crowd whom have obviously not forgiven her for her derogatory comments about the city in a recent interview, Peta retained her concentration impressively. Fellow Aussie jmf07 didn't fare quite so well, as the huge burden of pressure took its toll on the youngster and he collapsed to a heavy loss to propaganda. After a strong run from qualifying to the final of Chennai, Australians hadn't been so excited about a player since the emergence of tennis GOAT Todd Reid. However, any more performances like today will see jmf07's career fall well short of the lofty achievements of Todd. Bulgarian propaganda will now take on njnetswill, who inflicted a rare defeat for Troickitard in a tournament managed by adee-gee. It was a bizarre performance from the Serb, who had a clear gameplan but seemed convinced it wouldn't work right from the off, and spent much of the match moaning at her coach ala Andy Murray 07/08.

Belarussian gaynor's astonishing start to the season was finally ended, as balloon took advantage of his clearly jaded opponent. After claiming both the singles and doubles titles in Doha, as well as carrying adee-gee to a famous Hopman Cup victory, the number of matches finally caught up on gaynor, but he will be a player all the big names will be looking to avoid in Melbourne. In other matches, American hope Snoo Foo edged past 7th seed Nando_L, though her Western accent is proving difficult for many of the locals to understand. 6th seed Hotzenplotz also fell, as Sheva rolled back the years to take out last years beaten finalist who is still to register a win in 2009. And Nadie overcame Deboogle!. in a match played in wonderful spirits between 2 of the nicest players on the tour.
