I've found one good thing: They've finally added the qualy results on the player activity sites:

Argh, the frequency with which they change their lay-out is annoying. What is wrong with some consistency?

Positively loathe the background of the new site. In general, it looks like retrogression, but I'm sure I'll get used to it soon enough. Just don't see the added value in these transitions.

So ATP Tennis has launched a new Web Site Layout. What do you think of it?

Stylistically not great (logo/starry background).

I can see some technical improvements though: speed, qually results and cross-links in activity, different more secure website technology (old site used Microsoft VB which was sometimes hacked and caused virusses to be installed on people's PCs and so that personal information like credit cards were vulnerable -- don't expect them ever to admit this).

For me it's too early to tell whether I like it. However, I usually prefer lighter backgrounds, so probably not, but we'll see.

I think it looks like the WTA website on crack. :(

I thought I was on a website for a planetarium at first.

Some things are laid out a little better making them easier to find (such as the links at the bottom). But the overall look of the website is crap.

Hopefully the security on the site is A LOT better!!!

I don't mind it being a bit more spaced out and better laid out.

I do need to view it on firefox and I created a user script to override the background image and replace it with just a black background and I find it much more tolerable now.

It looks like a fansite for 'Heroes' :tape: must be the globe in the background that did it.

I like the colours - they make the website look very similar to Andy Murray's official one though  - but then I know people who have issues with reading text on a dark background, so they're most likely not going to be happy with this!

I got the "Heroes" feel too and since I like the show I like the new look :o I always thought the old layout sucked so innovation is pretty refreshing, could use some little edits here and there (or a choice to view in the classic way for those who hate the new one) but it's pretty nice.

Well if they are I'll be interested to see how they go about showing who's qualifying for the finals.

When my interest in professional tennis became more serious (around 1998), I remember newspapers publishing a "Race to Hannover" table (as it was one year) in which they simply added up the entry points earned during the year for the relevant players (a bit like the Race used to function).

I guess this is how they could do it, although, as we're seeing in the main 2009 ranking discussion thread on here, the fact that certain players still have to play at least 1 500 event after the US Open could mean that the order is seriously fucked up until the punultimate week or so in the regular year. :help:

I think it's a matter of time to accept the new design. For me is important that window background isn't black, I hate websites with black, my eyes can't stand it... Definitely the content is more important for me than the design. I'm still waiting for tie-break scorelines before 1991 :p

where have they hidden the orders of play and draws?

why did they change the format of the current tournament boxes from last year?

Edit: found them hiding in the tournament profiles. Another stunning example of them trying to fix what wasn't broken and making it worse.

That's a pain in the ass. There should be links to the OOP and draws instead of links to buy tickets. :retard:

It clearly shows what's most important to the ATP right now. ;)

Exactly I really miss them !

And when I go to the "profile", am I the only one who gets a big empty space beside the blue menu on the left "tournament finder ..." and the photo "Rafa's year for the ages" ?

It seems that the size of my screen (17 inches) has problems with the frames : for the profiles page, it seems that the problem is related to the big photo on the top.

I have to go far below to catch the links to the draws.

As for the "full calender" for the challengers, now it goes until april : last week it was until march : why do they call it "full" ?

And the black colour really makes my journey there very unpleasant !

Only things I like more : the players'pages, with beautiful photos, and the introduction of the results in the qualifyings.

the website is pretty good, unless you're an idiot

The website is very good. As a branding exercise it is a good execution. A lot easier to navigate around, with simplified links and tabs. I'm sure there'll be tweaks made in the coming months. The tournament profiles are very good too.

I think the new skin has a much hipper and younger look and the old layout was very totalitarian in appearance, almost like a website for some boring silicon valley company. I don't know about the navigational issues of the new layout cuz I haven't really tested it out yet but if it's just as easy to navigate on the new design as it was with the old design then this new layout is overall much more pleasing to my eyes. I'm a graphic designer and I would be more proud to have designed this new layout than the old one.

I meant to use a different word than "totalitarian" which I can't think of now. What I meant to say was "the old layout was straight-up PRACTICAL in appearance", no extra fanciness.

I only have this problem at work, not at home.

They've improved on this now thankfully. The boxes now contain a link to a page with the oop and draws. Not as good as last year's sytem but heading in the right direction at least.

I think it's too busy! Makes it hard to read. The big globe/planet thing is strange, but it's supposed to fit with the new "World Tour" theme, I guess?

They scrapped The Race? Huh?

well..I got used to the new design now, it's ok
but the player activities are a real mess, just as one example: Söderling is for example displayed with 45 points for his SF in Auckland (his ranking breakdown, however, shows the right number of 90 points), another nice one is Granollers' 90 points for his 1st round loss in Auckland

apart from that everybody who played quali in Surbiton last year (including tournament champion Dancevic) did so on clay, while everybody who directly made the main draw played on grass (which is obviously the right surface)

big thumbs down here

I actually like the new look and logo, makes everything look more up to date.

I like the new look but am I the only one who is missing the link for the qualifying livescore on the mainpage??? Do we always need to go to the WTA website to get a livescoring for the ATP-qualifying?? Why don't they put it on the ATP website anymore? Or am I just too stupid to find it?

Less userfriendly!! That's what I ment :wavey: It's easier to get the ATP-qualy-livescore from the WTA site than from the ATP site! That's a joke

Not only they have a meaningless globe on the background, not only the draws and results can be out of date, but look at the latest result under BOYS SINGLES:

I find it REALLY irritating that I cannot get to the order of play, nor the tournament website, direct from the front page. :banghead: The link on there only takes you to more links.

Actually I bookmarked the "draws-order of play" page rather than their home-page :

like that, they can be happy : I avoid their home page and all of its advertisings.
