what change ?

Filipo
12-23-2008, 04:07 PM
what change ?

for example: Masters are with 1000 points for the winner (as it was 500 up to now), Slams with 2000 points (1000 up to now).

possible occasion is to use the points from last yers ?

eljab
12-23-2008, 08:10 PM
ok. I see.
Well, if we use the last year points we'll have problem next year.
Let's use the new points.
The ranking will be hardly moved in the begin but after that, all will roll. ;)

Filipo
12-25-2008, 09:53 AM
In the beginning everything could be in chaos. New players or those who don't have points to defend will get more points in the beginning. In Tennis Tipping there were ideas to double the last year points ... They sticked to the last year points and won't change anything.

eljab
12-27-2008, 08:33 AM
i don't think that is a solution..
next year, it will be the same problem

how the atp ranking will work ?

Filipo

good idea :) hopefully more people will vote ...

ATP will do:

Points earned in 2008 will be doubled going into the 2009 season.

as i know the usual practise is only one tournament per week. as there are ATP tournaments i don't think we have to play challengers. we don't have a lot of managers, too.

Hey can somebody confirm for me, because I'm a little sleep deprived, but it looks like Sydney starts on a sunday & ends on saturday, so from what I understand:

1. nobody needs to make a sunday pick (first pick is for Monday OOP); and
2. use these points:

Winning pick on Day 1: 5 points
Winning pick on Day 2: 20 points
Winning pick on Day 3: 45 points
Winning pick on Day 4: 90 points
Winning pick on Day 5: 150 points
Winning pick on Day 6: 250 points

Thanks!

Are you sure for AO ?

btw, i'll take Johannesburg. also, new tournaments are available at post #1

About the points: I've made all possible versions at post #3. We have to decide about the Slams, as eljab used different days for two Slams last year (Wimbledon with 10 days, US Open with 12 days).

well we can't appply same points rules for the differents slam.
Wimbledon is special and have only 10 days : no match on sunday and male/female days after that.
I made a mistake last year with RG i think (beginning on sunday as Suicide always begin on monday)

So it must be 12 days for grand slam i think (except Wimbledon) ?

monday to sunday : 7 days
monday, tuesday and wednesday : +3
Semi final : +1 (on friday or on thursday and friday, doesn't matter)
final : +1

Hey can Filipo or somebody help me?

when I set up the Sydney thread I posted warnings that I would not accept any picks posted after 11 am Sydney time, I had a link to a time zone clock, and in the thread I did a countdown to the deadline, needless to say vamos israel posted her picks at 11:06 and now wants me to make an exception for her.

I know none of the men's MD matches started at that time (they didn't start for a while after that), so if other people think I should accept the pick I will but I don't really think it's fair to:

(a) the 65 other people managed to submit their picks before the deadline; and
(b) any other people who might have been a few minutes late but didn't post their picks because they actually took all my warnings seriously.

7. Picks will be accepted until before the start of the FIRST match each day

All picks must be posted by 11:00 am Sydney time (http://timeanddate.com/s/121u).

49 Minutes Remaining!

Picks posted after 11:00 am Sydney time WILL NOT be accepted.

Yes, yor are right about your arguments, but Suicide doesn't have the new TT rule. We should accept picks until first point is played. So i think you have to accept vamos israel's pick.

the first matches had started, just not the atp matches. Does this mean that I'm required to scoreboard watch from the scheduled start time to whenever the atp matches actually start? for each day of the tournament?

yes, just to mark the start of men's play. the second possible way is calculate the starting time assuming the elapsed time of the first match. and third method is to assume 10 minutes after the play started, if no rain. also some other players, who are online, are marking people, who are late.

I'd love to run a suicide event soon, but actually the high quantity of participants (resulting in real time issues) is keeping me from doing so. I don't know if others see it the same, but I wouldn't mind being a regular manager if there's only like 25 people around in my tourney. So, how about offering ST at all tournaments during a week? This would also allow everybody to play where he/she wants to. The only problem which might arise is to find enough managers, but yeah, don't know if others see it like me..

yeah, the amount of managers is the big problem. for example, see who are the managers for the last 10 weeks of last year. this year only Dwight (FilipeMB) is the new. Snoo Foo tried, but i think she refused to do any other.

as for updating for 60-80 people: if you have a free 30 minutes for every day the update will be ok. the first day is the hardest as filling all the names, thereafter only adding picks. Also if you choose a smaller tournament some big bomber could help you in first two days

FilipeMB
02-15-2009, 10:12 PM
i think i'm not new, i have managed 10 or more suicide events til today but :p

i have also had brought to attention this idea of running more than one tournament a week, when managers available. I cannot commit to do so well because of my PYW job here in MTF + the time real life "takes" from me.

i don't think we need a challenger this week, as i remember the interest in challengers during the end of last year. but if you have desire, you can run it :) the place for the thread is here.

Question?!

Does Estoril start on Sunday? And if so, does it finish on saturday? In which case it;s just a 7 day pick as normal. But in the fact sheet, it says Sunday-Sunday, so what do I do for 8 days? Ignore the Sunday as it's likely to only be 4 matches or something?

EDIT: Just checked the site and it's 3 matches on the Sunday. So I would think that only matters for the likes of Fill in the draw and PAW not suicide. Final is on sunday. So use 7 day scoring points and start on Monday right? If not let me know cause that's what I'll do otherwise :)

Welcome. :wavey:
It is late now to join this week tournament, as day one is over, but here's how it works so you can play next week. :)

This week's Suicide is Bastad - the tread (http://www.menstennisforums.com/showthread.php?t=147517). Every ATP event has its subforum and Suicide Thread is opened in there, so you can find it if you go: Current Tournaments -> Catella Swedish Open -> Suicide Tennis Bastad. Only challengers are exception to this rule (cause they don't have their subforums) so their threads are here in Suicide Sub-Forum, but that happens only in the weeks when there are no ATP tournaments.

if any of you have suggestions - give them here :)

allow me to quote my post from early 2009:

I'd love to run a suicide event soon, but actually the high quantity of participants (resulting in real time issues) is keeping me from doing so. I don't know if others see it the same, but I wouldn't mind being a regular manager if there's only like 25 people around in my tourney. So, how about offering ST at all tournaments during a week? This would also allow everybody to play where he/she wants to. The only problem which might arise is to find enough managers, but yeah, don't know if others see it like me..

Filipo, do you by any chance have a copy of eljab's last updated ranking sheet?
:fingers crossed:
I mean, I see his last post's from mid July so I don't think he plans to keep updating it, I might take the job, but it would be great if I don't have to do it way back from the season start.

unfortunately i don't have anything from him. he was doing it himself only. maybe we have to contact him on PM and ask for the sheet.

I'll try that, but I doubt he's still active.
Anyway, I've decided I'll update only the race for now (so that we have Masters Cup participants, btw is it top 16 or 20?), it's a bit easier 'cause I don't have to count the end of 2008, I started working on that. If I have time I might later update the rankings too.

Hello, :wavey:

I'm a rookie on the forum. :)

I would like to know if i can play US Open Suicide Tennis...
... or if I have to wait to have posted a minimum of messages on the forum to be authorized to play ?

Filipo, I can take Paris in November, at least I think so for now. If I'm not able then, I'll post on the forum in time so someone else can take it. It's my graduating year and nothing is planned so far, but I think I'll find time to run it.

About US Open,

it's supposed to be 12 Days format.
Winning pick on Day 1: 5
Winning pick on Day 2: 30
Winning pick on Day 3: 45
Winning pick on Day 4: 90
Winning pick on Day 5: 180
Winning pick on Day 6: 270
Winning pick on Day 7: 360
Winning pick on Day 8: 540
Winning pick on Day 9: 720
Winning pick on Day 10: 1200
Winning pick on Day 11: 1600
Winning pick on Day 12: 2000

* 1/2 finals are one day
So far it's been:
Day 1 - 1st Round
Day 2 - 1st Round
Day 3 - 1st Round (and two 2nd Round matches)
Day 4 - 2nd Round, the rest of top half
Day 5 - 2nd Round, bottom half
Day 6 - 3rd Round, top half

Day 7 - 3rd Round, bottom half
Day 8 - Round of 16, top half
Day 9 - Round of 16, bottom half
Day 10 - ??
Day 11 - Semifinals
Day 12 - Final

Am I to put all quarterfinal matches in one day as well? (According to the schedule (http://www.usopen.org/en_US/scores/schedule/eventschedule.html?promo=topnav) they'll be in separate days.) Or should this be 13 Days tournament, but then we need different point distribution?

I have another question. :)

A player sent their pick in PAW thread by mistake. Is it valid?

Filipo
09-06-2009, 10:15 AM
1. yes, all 1/4 finals will be one day (day 10)

2. yes, it's valid. we're not following all threads, but if the player pointed his mistake post, we'll accept this, if it's on time of course :)

Last tournament of the year - London WTF. Here are the rules:

There will be 8 days of picking. You have to pick every day. Two players, used during the round robin format, can be picked again in semifinal and final, but only in SF and F.
Only Top 16 players from the last ranking (after Paris AMS) are eligible to play here. Those placed from 17th to 25th are alternates. They can pick for day 1, and if someone from Top 16 forgot to pick, they are replacing him/her/them.

If noone can run it, i'll do it for last as i'm leaving Suicide Tennis entirely :)

P.S. points will be determined later

(I'll update Rankings anyway, but it's not urgent.)
