I will be going and I will have pics and videos :)

A phenomenal list as always. The field will undergo quite a few changes, but it should quite comfortably be able to keep the cut-off below the 100, which is great.

Last year's cut-off was #110 and the year before #134, so the tournament seems to be improving.

Xavier Malisse is on the Q-draw of Indian Wells this week. Is it possible he plays here instead of the Caltanissetta challenger?

Quite strange what he's doing... Just played Davis Cup on clay in Belgium, now hardcourt in California and then again clay in Rome??

For those interested, he's again working with David Felgate (for 6 months to start). :)

OMG this is what 125K+H challengers attract. The atp website needs to follow this challenger and put headlines up of this. Lopez! Chardy! And players that are alterantes that would usually be seeded! If there is a challenger with a better cut-off, I will be amazed.

It is not a challenger with a great name or atmosphere though. For years it has been organized by the ATP itself as a stop-gap measure to give higher-ranked players something to do after being knocked out in IW and before Miami starts. In the past even score updates were barely available. Maybe with the streaming and stuff they are trying to make a more attractive from a fan point of view.

Rain washes away entire schedule at BMW Tennis Championship

USTA Challenger event in Sunrise rained out Wednesday

Today's entire schedule of matches was rained out at the BMW Tennis Championship in Sunrise.

Play was supposed to get under way at noon, but heavy rain forced tournament organizers to delay the matches. The day was called a complete washout by 3:30 p.m.

The tournament could decide to push everything back a day, putting the men's final on Monday.

Top seed Tomas Berdych has yet to play his first match against Nicolas Devilder.

The BMW Championship is a USTA Challenger event played at the Sunrise Tennis Club. Play is scheduled to resume Thursday.

See, there is something fundamentally wrong with the way tournaments are scheduled, IMO. They're always latter-week heavy - with some players not playing round 2 matches till thursday, which is ridiculous IMO. Why not get all the round one and two matches done in the first couple of days (number of courts allowing), and then spread out the doubles and Quarter final singles matches over the final 5. Then if you do get a backlog, you're not having to catch up with only 3 days remaining, and having to double up on fixtures....

Grrr, makes me so angry!!!

Most challengers do have a normal schedule as you describe, for exampe first round Monday, second round Tuesday, QFs Wednesday and Thursday, SFs Friday, Final Saturday, or a little extended the final on Sunday.

However, Sunrise is a special case because it's an ATP-organized challenger in the second week of IW. It is specifically intended for players that lose in IW and are waiting for Miami. So that's why it has a Tuesday main draw start, to allow players to come over from Indian Wells and prepare themselves a little. It is quite common for challengers in the second week of a Grand Slam and other multi-week tournaments to start on Tuesday with the main draw, for similar reasons (for example in the second of week of Roland Garros, most challengers in that week will start on Tuesday).

The drawback of course, as can be seen this week, is problems when the already tight schedule is delayed by rain. Last year there were similar problems, with the final being played on Monday.

Late start, wash-out day, bad weather, squeezed in between IW and Miami, the atmosphere a bit too relaxed... The field was looking good, so kind of a shame about the circumstances, but it is what it is, I guess.

No real evidence of tanking at all in my opinion.

Just a little careful form and fitness analysis required before making bets instead of betting hard on the better known favourite.

ToJo = out of form injured cripple at the moment.
Lalo = seems to be seriously out of form at the moment.

I would favour Korolev, because Schuettler seems to be out of form at the moment.

Starace would also be a bet for me against Gabashvili today.
