Who do you think Should win BBC sport's personality of the year?

Do you think it would be a joke for Hamilton to win the award for essentially driving a car fast, relying on technology as much as skill?

Favourite song of all time?

Do you have any special or unusual talents that we don't know about?

If you couldn't be Scottish, which other country would you like to be a national of?

That'll kick things off. X Factor final is on, so I rushed the questions.

Lewis Hamilton or Chris Hoy. Hope Ohuruogu doesn't win it, when you miss three tests there's always doubts.

Do you think it would be a joke for Hamilton to win the award for essentially driving a car fast, relying on technology as much as skill? :

Well the Ferrari cars are faster than his McLaren so I think he deserves some credit. McLaren's last F1 champion was Mika Hakkinen in 1999, so it's not like they win every week.

Favourite song of all time?

In My Life by the Beatles

Do you have any special or unusual talents that we don't know about?

I'm very good at negotiating with people who say no.
I know how to turn a disorganised mess situation around
I continue to have the ability to pay junior prices on national trains simply by using a ticket machine to buy the tickets, despite me being 21.

I'm not actually Scottish  I'm from Merseyside, England. The SCO flag is for Muzza :p

1 Not quite sure as there aren't many actors who look like me!

2 The best is the nightlife, it's ace. Liverpool is unbeatable as far as the club/bar scene goes and Birkenhead ain't too bad either on a Friday.

The worst has to be some of the scum that infest the streets especially at night time who lurk playing loud music and asking you to go the shop for them to buy ale.

3 Apart from the UK, France, Spain and Andorra.

1 Sometimes. The early rounds with the crap singers and farcical performances. I usually watch any football that's on, comedy on Paramount, South Park, Family Guy, and also sitcoms like Friends.

2 yours, the spotlight threads, football zone, occasionally the Nadal chat thread and the ACC/popularity contests.

3 it was my friend's and I helped him run it. It was shut down after disparaging remarks were made about a player and the player's father complained to the authorities.

4 No. No one visits my spotlight thread anyway!

For sure. Yeah we may be his second love to LFC but the goals he scored, the cup exploits, the passion he had for the club, have him near the top of my all-time favourites.

1 Normally my fave list fluctuates but the same four guys- Steps, Gulbis, Isner, Murray, just tends to vary and Steps was the one I had at the top at the time, he's pure entertainment.

2 For yesterday he is a legenda.

3 Semi finalists, think Brazil or Spain's flair might just undo us, or if it goes to penalties they won't miss them.

1 No, it is unique and diverse, or it used to be, that's what disappoints me about clay now is that most guys play hardcourt tennis on it, the days of Guga playing Corretja are days I miss, though grass tennis is the same, no serve-volleyers or grass court players making the deep end at Wimbledon.

2 Maybe, but the courts are homogenized and the passing shot standard is great nowadays, though that's all I would say is better about the current crop of players compared to the 90s stars. That said the quality of volleying is a lot worse now except for Stepanek, but his forehand breaks down too much and is mentally frail at times and that stops him from going any higher than he can.

1. Yes, a little. Reduce it by a few weeks. Too much hardcourt tournaments, which cause the most wear and tear on the body. IW/Miami would not be there if I ran the ATP.

2. Not really as my accent sounds more Chester-like than Liverpool-like, despite the fact I am closer by the crow flies to Liverpool. Sometimes people will make the odd joke comment but that is all it is.

I'm 22 ;)

I first watched a tennis match in 95, and didn't follow the sport hugely but watched Wimbledon and the big tournaments. I only became hardcore around 2000.

I just preferred surfaces when they were different and styles were different and it took different challenges to win the different slams, like even in 2001, Guga/Costa/Corretja going deep in RG, Henman, Sampras, Ivanisevic, Federer at Wimbledon, and Hewitt, Safin, Roddick and Agassi at the hardcourt slams.

When guys like Djokovic and Nadal are blowing people over on Wimbledon Centre Court to make the semis and the final there's something wrong, imho.

1 Murray beating Nadal at the US Open, and that's my favourite matchup as well

2 My favourite coach overall is probably Peter Lundgren, cool guy.

3 I think this year's been a bit poor quality wise, but the first two sets of Murray-Nadal at the AO, Llodra-Soderling in Bercy and Djokovic-Federer in New York were probably the best.

4 I love it, and it saddens me that we don't have a team that can win it. If we did, I'd rather win it than one of our players won a GS. The Serbian celebrations did make me a little envious

5 Nadal, from tolerate to minor irritation to dislike.

6 My fave would actually be Simon Reed, despite his notoriety on MTF or making silly predictions, when he's commentating he's alright. My least fave is Mark Petchey, he's too fanboyish and not objective enough, favours certain players.

7 Grass be sped up and clay be slowed down, so that there's more of a diversion between surfaces. Would also have longer grass season.

8 Monte Carlo, Rome, Wimbledon, US Open, Stockholm, Paris-Bercy

9 Never been an actual ATP tourney though been to some exo's

10 I don't remember  I think it was through searching for entry lists for tournaments, and steve g tennis was not working at the time. The rest is history.

11 Stefan Edberg, Andre Agassi, Pete Sampras, Pat Rafter

12 Murray v Federer US Open final 2008, Sampras v Kafelnikov RG 1996 and Roddick v Nalbandian US Open 2003

13 I've read Agassi's, and would love to read one by Edberg

The patriotism of the participating nations, what it means to the country to represent it plus the atmospheres are very comparable to football with noisy crowds, even hostile ones. Football ultras. If they were at Wimbledon for Murray's matches it would certainly spice things up.

No AO final 2010? ;)

Can't be too greedy. Besides, at that USO he played the best he ever played, dealing with Wawrinka the bogeyman, Del Potro, and then beating Nadal clean, which he didn't entirely do at the AO. If he'd finished that off and beaten Roger there, it would have been more impressive than Rafa retiring and a tired Cilic.

1 Amusing, very. There's no way that 'sevco' could have started in the SPL again. Their fans continue to whine and spit the dummy out by not taking ticket allocations in the cup against SPL teams but how could they be let back in when the oldco was breaking a whole load of financial rules?

1 Tranmere

2 I'm a fan, since 2007 when I saw him vs Roddick at the AO when he led 7-6 5-3. Still hope he can win a GS and that Rasheed can turn around his current predicament. When he's on his game I feel he can still beat anyone despite the slower surfaces he has to cope with.

3 I don't mind him these days. There was one point where his tards were rampant in GM going on about how Murray sucks cos it's 1-0 and he's part of a real big 4 but I enjoyed his play at the Olympics against Federer. He's definitely on the way back. Muzza winning the slam title should hopefully put an end to any silly tard games, as both fanbases are happy and content.

4 A fan :) Hope he reaches top 10 soonish and kicks on from there. He's got the game to keep rising.

1 reluctantly for the most part, England. I tend to be ambivalent but then during tournament time I always get caught up in the jingoism, as do my mates (only one of my lad mates is fiercely patriotic England fan) and we all watch the games together. I find the football they play for the most part quite hideous though and often have little sadness when they lose playing that way. I have an affinity for the Venezuela national team from when they were bottom and have built their way up admirably

2 erm I only watched series 1-2 when it was actually a new concept. Probably Nasty Nick. Awesome heel.

3 Erm I liked all kinds of players around the 00-04 time before he arrived on the scene. He isn't the only player I root for either, just the most obvious.

4 No

5 I'm just delighted he got the one after supporting him for eight years it was pretty special the USO, though I think he could end his career with 2-3 and the #1 ranking. He's not THAT good to go on a tear, but he'll be a contender for every slam except RGs for three or four years most likely given the lack of competition emerging from the new generation beyond.

1 In the Ashes yeah, in other tests I'm not overly fussed to be honest although they've been very good against India the last couple of games.

2 Test, not close

3 Flintoff, Swann, Tendulkar, Gilchrist, Vettori, Leverock, Murali, Malinga, Afridi

4 Never worn one

5 Agassi or Guga

6 Both, I suppose

7 Amusing to a degree

There are ads here? :p You could've used FF and Adblock+ for free, but it's good to support the forum I guess :)

Btw, I forgot the question: how do you feel about other native English speakers (Irish/Australians/Canadians/Americans), i.e. closer/more related or same as about any foreigners, just they happen to speak English.

I don't know- sure there's more in common and communication is easier but I wouldn't consider myself any closer to them than say, the French or Belgians which are the nearest countries geographically that don't have English as their language.

Yes. I feel he has more of the 'future PM' about him than Ed, definitely.

The Labour representatives on the last two editions of QT (Andy Burnham and Stella Creasy) did very well and they're the type of people the party should be building its future on.

1-Who will the next 1st time Slam winner be?

2-Are (at least some of) today's top players overrated due to surface homogenization?

3-Who is the worst poster on the forum and the most unbearable fanbase?

4-What changes would you make in the tennis calendar, as well as surfaces and conditions?

5-Zidane or Iniesta?

1 I'd like to think it would be Tsonga or Kei but it's so difficult for guys with attacking/big hitting game to break through in modern conditions it's hard to say.

2 Yep. Nadal winning a career slam is testimony to that, as is Djokovic winning Wimbledon although he should logically be competitive in the other three anyway. Even Murray's slam he benefitted being on the slower Ashe in some matches, when in the two Armstrong matches he found two in-form players a real handful.

3 hard to say- they recently permabanned the worst poster, and there isn't a standout bad poster. Rafatards were the worst fanbase but they've banned the majority of the worst. So whoever wins the most next year will probably be the worst fanbase

4

a Revert Aussie season back to Rebound Ace
b Masters finals best of 5 sets
c make IW/Miami medium paced to make it easier for players' bodies
d Replace Madrid with Hamburg, back where it should be. Madrid reverts to first indoor TMS with Shanghai reverting to a 500
e an extra week of grass preparation with Liverpool getting an ATP event
f speed up Ashe and US Open courts back to 2004 level
g Revert once carpet tournaments back to carpet especially Bercy
h Move WTF to German city and have it on carpet to conclude the year

Things were fine in 2004. I've just put them back what they were.

5 I'd say Zizou

Channel 4 here (an easily accessible channel at the time) had the rights to show Serie A from 1992 to 2002 so I was able to watch him at Lazio and then Juve. I knew once Cragnotti thought he could let him go and improve the Biancocelesti that was the end of them. They were a force until they sold him. And not surprisingly Juve went on to recover the title and probably would have won the CL in Manchester if he wasn't suspended for it.

The guy was just such an underrated footballer. One of the best players I've seen at his peak.

Agree. I didn't get to watch him too much at Lazio because I was too young. Watched a lot of videos of that team though, apart from Pavel there were some fantastic players, Veron, Nesta, Almeyda, Sinisa Mijahlovic, Crespo, Poborsky, etc. And Erickson was a great coach.

At Juve he was a beast. The most complete player I saw at his peak. And yes, despite he won the Ballon D'or very under-rated player. That yellow card against Real was a disgrace, one of the saddest moments in football.

Injuries, and a good opposition who have been playing very well. Their bench pisses over ours, and their budget's £4m compared to our £1.4m. We're doing superbly well to be above teams like them at this stage.

Di Canio gets a lot of press and praise but he's just a chequebook manager. When he goes behind in a game his record is shit. In the Championship I reckon his 'methods' would be found out.

1 In terms of overall tennis enjoyment, Wimbledon 2001 for sure. The unpredictability, the story, the tennis was great too. Sampras-Federer, Henman-Federer, Ivanisevic-Safin, Ivanisevic-Henman, Agassi-Rafter and the people's final made it one of the great sporting moments. AO 2005 and RG 2009 not far behind, due to Safin's phenomenal play throughout. Aside from the nervy first set against Hewitt, he was unplayable. RG 09 gets third for the unpredictability factor after Soderling's upset. You had no idea who would win, as Fed limped his way past Haas and Delpo.

In terms of the result, the USO just gone although obviously it wasn't the best tennis spectacle, after eight years of following/supporting a player it was great to see him cross the finish line no matter how it came about. I was happy for Roger to win the Career Slam in 2009, and the same for Agassi in 1999 (although it's not the 00s).

Best slam in terms of tennis enjoyment:

1 Wimbledon 2001
2 Australian Open 2005
3 Roland Garros 2009

Best slam result/outcome:

1 US Open 2012
2 Roland Garros 1999
3 Roland Garros 2009

2 Mario had great potentially especially on grass- he had the serve, the movement, strong strokes and excellent volleys, better than Berdych and Soderling's. He'd have had a Tsonga-like career on grass and been a real tough customer at the USO as well.

2 Portsmouth get good gates given their inevitable predicament

That's SUCH a tough one to call. I'd say Henry just, for the reason he managed to win the biggest prizes at international level as well as club level although Ronaldo has time.

That being said the best season either player has had was Ronaldo's 2007-08- not seen anything Messi-aside as good as that.

3) Which match do you consider as best of all time?

4) What’s your favourite match of your favourite player and who is the opponent you enjoy to see him play against the most?

5) When did you got your first PC? When have you been using the internet for the first time and do you remember which information you searched there first?

1 The most high quality of the three was Soderling's performance but my favourite result was Murray-Djoker. It's a hard one to call :p Probably for tennis reasons the first one

2 First heard of Wimbledon on the radio in 1996, first watched it in 1997. Didn't have Sky then so we only got Wimbledon coverage. Only when I got Sky a few years later was I able to watch the other slams and tournaments

3 that's a tough one. I always reply with sarcasm in GM to this one, but overall the best quality stuff I saw was probably Safin vs Agassi at the 2004 Australian Open or Safin vs Federer a year later, an edge to the former.

4 For Murray easily US Open SF 2008 against Nadal. Also nowadays probably Federer as I enjoy that match-up, although he always plays more explosively against Nadal. For Soderling the answer is pretty obvious (09 RG and Nadal for opponent) and for Nalbandian it's the 2005 TMC final, with Federer the answer

5 when I was a nipper and I had Titus the Fox and Castle Master, using MS-DOS to open them up :) I was about four or five at the time

6 Djokovic. He used to get on my nerves a lot during the 'Fakervic' period when he had all the fingers pointing at him but nowadays I'm pretty neutral to the guy.

7 I used to party a lot for it and have a big get together with friends, but at 26 I'm not so sure about that now :p

thanks anyway :)
