I was wondering which are the players that arrive in Melbourne first, or for that matter any of the tournaments the first week. Mostly, for tournaments that start on a Monday players will get there Friday, Saturday, or Sunday. But because this tournament is at the beginning of the year, with no others before it, how early do players get there? Which players?

Full ALT list?

There is not exactly an alternates list like in IS tournaments or challengers. This is a mandatory event, so all players are signed according to ranking as of December 08th, 2008 (plus protected rankings of injured players). The entry deadline for qualifying list was yesterday, December 22th, 2008, and the list should be released within a week.

according to this Pim Pim is playing the aussie open:

Current Player: joachim johansson Joachim Johansson

More affectionately known as ‘Pim Pim’, Johansson has won three ATP singles titles including Adelaide in 2005 where he defeated fellow WTC player Taylor Dent. Pim Pim holds the record for most aces served in one match as he aced Andre Agassi 51 times in the 4th round of the 2005 Australian Open (though he still lost the match in four sets). Johansson retired from professional tennis on 1 February 2008 due to his persistent shoulder injury. Johansson said there was "no other option" than to quit. But on 3 October 2008 he announced that he will return to the world of tennis and that his shoulder injury had healed. He was given a wild card to compete in the 2008 Stockholm Open. He stamped his return by beating Nicholas Mahut in the first round. He will use the World Tennis Challenge as the platform for his assault on the Australian Open 2009.

Well I heard this morning on the radio that Baghdatis is already here. Ivanovic usually gets here quite early too because she has family here

She has family living in the suburb that I work! But I've never seen her come into my store

Anyway, both of those are currently in Brisbane getting ready for that tournament ;)

I've just read that Franky Moser and Koubek missed the cut together. So the cut is definitely better than 156. Moser thinks about going to Melbourne nervertheless to sign in as alternate. :tape:
