Blackrock Masters

Its that time of year when the old guys play their big end of season tournament. This year Pistol Pete is making his debut. And Jamie Murray is playing in the doubles; because he can't win any matches on the proper tour he feels he has to go and play on the seniors tour.

Anyway, this can be a place to discus the matches, etc.

Good thread, it will of course be moved to another section of the forum so that we can discuss Jeff Tarango and players smoking.

An easy one for Pistol Pete.

No Haarhuis?

If you dont care why post in this thread?

I cant wait to see Sampras play.

It could still be a good tournament with this field...but it wasn't what i was expecting. Wasn't this event supposed to be the "marquée" Seniors event of the year? Having 8 players is fine, but it should near-enough reflect the top 8 Seniors rankings (not that anyone is too arsed about collecting points anyway) and no WC should be offered.

Where are Haarhuis, Bruguera, Rios, Leconte etc?

I don't think Pete is as big a favourite as many are harping on about...plenty of dangerous guys there...Pioline, Forget etc. But he'd still be my pick of the bunch.

JMG
12-02-2008, 01:46 PM
It is still quite a good field, except Bates and maybe Cash. I miss Stich in this list, wasn't he top 8 too?

Byrd
12-02-2008, 02:58 PM
If Goran, Rios, Haarhuis were playing instead of some others, it would of been interesting/good.

Yappa
12-02-2008, 05:09 PM
I was pretty impressed by Stich when he was playing in that german even last year which was shown on german TV channel Pro7.

Anyways, any way we'll be able to see some of those matches?

jazar
12-02-2008, 05:42 PM
the top 8 were:

1. Ivanisevic
2. Leconte
3. Rios
4. Stich
5. Bruguera
6. Pioline
7. Muster
8. McEnroe

but only 2 of them are playing

Yappa
12-02-2008, 06:15 PM
So Stich was fourth? Man, he should play. :(

jazar
12-02-2008, 06:50 PM
goran was due to play, but he needed knee surgery, so pat cash (who i think was 9th and also happens to live in london) replaced him

Right..

And have you tried ITV's 'watch back' [or w/e it's called..] feature? I tried to see some of the Cash/Edberg match from yesterday but aside from having to watch 5+ adverts every time you press 'play', the sound was out of sync and the quality was poor - very grainy; and all the worse when you compare it to the BBC Iplayer, which is brilliant..

The BBC iPlayer is pretty amazing, watched Louis Theroux:Crime in Philadelphia, and the quality was great :worship:

When the BBC had the rights to this event, they showed every match live.

The worst channel in television history now has the rights (ITV) AND they have already ruined it by showing 20% live coverage

USELESS CHANNEL

Sampras' serving was mental, probably better than the majority of players playing on the circuit.

Iván

All they showed was one match on Friday afternoon, one match on Saturday and the Final

The event last year had 19 Singles Matches

Showing 3 is NOT every match

well i had the red button (interactive) and i saw most of it live so i dont know where your getting info from buck.

Probably Pete since he's younger than the other competitors except Rusedski, hence he should be fitter; and he beat Rusedski in his final US Open.

Pioline should have won twice in 1993. In the third set in Lyon was leading 4:1* (30-15), in Atwerp a couple weeks later was serving for match at 5:4 in the second but choked and lost his serve to 0.

The scoring in the second tie break was dodgy though

not really. greg just thought a ball had been called out because someone on the crowd told him it was out. neither the line judge nor the umpire called it out and greg didnt question it til at least after the next point.

anyway, i was there and i got in for free, had an amazing view and went downstairs to the players lounge after the final, saw cedric and congratulated him.

throughout the whole of the singles final for some reason i had this urge to start singing "o canada"
