I know its not in aus but after aus open he said he will be playing in the SA TENNIS OPEN in Jo'burg on 2/2/2009

01-03-2009, 02:46 AM

01-03-2009, 02:47 AM

01-03-2009, 05:22 AM
This is not a very good draw honestly. Playing Calleri for the first round, then Marcos and Richard (probably), is not by any means an easy task. But we could say that he should be used to their game, since he has been sparring with them a lot during his preparation.

Though he said in an interview that he will really have finished his preparation for Sydney. I think it's something to consider.

Nevertheless, allez !!!

01-03-2009, 10:26 AM
both leading seeds had tough draw, even more djokovic who has to play ernest gulbis first
richard in the same quarter as jo,that sucks:retard:

01-04-2009, 11:50 PM
Allez Jo!!!!! :D

01-05-2009, 12:18 PM
Gicquel M / Tsonga J-W won 7-5 4-6 10-4

01-05-2009, 01:17 PM
good win:)

01-05-2009, 04:15 PM
Indeed good win for the davis cup.

He plays in single tonight against calleri the first match of the night session, something like 9 o'clock in the morning, french hour. You can find some livestream in the GM thread.

Allez mon Jojo !!!

01-06-2009, 08:14 AM
It has begun, but no livestream is to be found at the moment. It's quite frustrating.

Anyway, 1/0 for Jo.

01-06-2009, 08:17 AM
Break for Jo !

Good start !

Break confirmed : 3/0

01-06-2009, 08:34 AM
pas de

no streaming???????? tsonga deroule tranquilement 4/2

01-06-2009, 08:43 AM
I can't believe he's playing at the moment and not even betfair or bet365 are broadcasting it. :armed:

Calleri just made a couple of double faults and missed two game points  You do not want to do that with Jo in front of you.

So now it's 5-2 and set point on Calleri serve :bigclap:

01-06-2009, 08:43 AM
6/2 Yeahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

01-06-2009, 08:48 AM
Hello guys, Jo's a newcomer among my favorite boys. I resisted as long as I could because I feel I'm having too many already and they end up playing each other all too often, so better keep him just among the liked group, but he's irresistable and I finally succumbed sometime this fall ;)

6:2 sounds very convincing. Keep it up :rocker2:
I've been unable to find a stream too

01-06-2009, 08:49 AM
Yes, no streaming. Vraiment pas cool.

First set, Jo. I think I am going to stop here. Not much point to follow the match behind the scoreboard. And this one seems to be (relatively) easy.

Good way to begin the season anyway

See you later (and welcome Oranges !)

01-06-2009, 08:53 AM
keijan how do you know about the double faults ? i am on the l'équipe site but i don't see that the match is commented

01-06-2009, 09:12 AM
keijan how do you know about the double faults ? i am on the l'équipe site but i don't see that the match is commented

Hi, I'm following the scoreboard on the Brisbane int. site, which displays some comments. Try this link, see if it's helpful:

01-06-2009, 09:17 AM
Thx a lot turquoise

01-06-2009, 09:18 AM
He has broken back and confirm behind it. A couple of game in more and it should be good (yeah I know, I am still here, but it's addictive, you know... ).

Jo 6/2 4/3

5/4 now. One game and it's done.

01-06-2009, 09:30 AM
keijan how do you know about the double faults ? i am on the l'équipe site but i don't see that the match is commented

Thanks to the scoreboard :) En petit sous le score, c'est marqué quand ils font une double ou un ace. But not much more information is available :(

5-5 ! What is he doing :o

01-06-2009, 09:41 AM
6/2 7/5 :woohoo::woohoo::woohoo:
Bring on Richie !

01-06-2009, 09:46 AM
Minor hiccup getting broken early in the 2nd, but he gets it done nice and easy overall :D

It's not Richie time yet, let me enjoy undivided support one more round ;)

01-06-2009, 09:46 AM
Good job, Jo! Next up Nieminen.

01-06-2009, 09:59 AM
Didn't he lose last year to Nieminen in the semis? Pay back time, if so!

01-06-2009, 10:11 AM
Minor hiccup getting broken early in the 2nd, but he gets it done nice and easy overall :D

It's not Richie time yet, let me enjoy undivided support one more round ;)

I meant Richie's match, against Taylor Dent  But of course, this one is not broadcasted either, why should he

Who is Jo playing next then ? :)

01-06-2009, 10:14 AM
Good job, Jo! Next up Nieminen.

Sorry, that'll teach me not to read the latest posts before replying to one :smash:

It's been ages since I last saw Nieminen play...

01-06-2009, 10:17 AM
Didn't he lose last year to Nieminen in the semis? Pay back time, if so!

yeah,I hope so.Gooooooooooooood luck Jojo!!

01-06-2009, 10:38 AM
Jo
well done

Good start :)

01-06-2009, 12:54 PM
Keep it up Jo :yeah:

01-06-2009, 12:56 PM
Hehe of course a massive brainfart from Calleri's side helped  Next round should be also in Jo's favour

BTW I don't think I've ever posted here :scared:

01-06-2009, 03:15 PM
great start Jo:D

01-06-2009, 05:32 PM
Nice jo. :yeah:

And a sweet match to come against Nieminen in addition. A couple of win in more and it will be a good preparation for the AO.

It's nice to see you in here btw, Nathalia :wavey:

Finding some stream should be hopefully easy tonight.

01-07-2009, 05:15 AM
Hello all, did the streaming stop for you too?

01-07-2009, 05:30 AM
Yes it did. Maybe they thought they'd spare us the sight? 6-0 for Nieminen first set...

01-07-2009, 05:34 AM
Yeah 1-1 in the second though... let's hope

01-07-2009, 05:55 AM
Mmmmmhhh.... still no livestream and a disaster of a first set.

I wonder what happened in the first ? He said he would be ready only for Sydney so there is nothing to fear for the moment....

Anyway, he is better now : 5/4 and second free game in a row.

The lack of video is killing me.

01-07-2009, 06:13 AM
How on earth did that 6/0 happened ?

Still no stream but at least he seems to do ok in the tie-break (5-1)

01-07-2009, 06:14 AM
1 set partout... ouf! ça va mieux

01-07-2009, 06:15 AM
Second set, Jo : 7/6

A rusty start happens sometimes. One more to go. He's back in the game.

01-07-2009, 06:17 AM
You gotta admire Jo. You can tell from the start of this match that he was rusty as all hell, probably cursing himself the whole time during the first set. Then he was broken again at the beginning of the second, and after he failed to break back right away, he looked ready to fade into the sunset and take a beating 6-0 6-2 or something like that. But he willed himself back in the match and now it's one set all.

01-07-2009, 06:22 AM
Good that he redeemed himself in the 2nd set. At least he's able to put the disatrous 1st set behind him and fight back. I'm also pleasantly surprised at how well he handled the tie-break. Good luck for the 3rd, now in progress.

01-07-2009, 06:39 AM
It really is too nerve-wracking. The guy is made in steel to come back from a 6/0 that way.

3/3 by the way in the third set.

Edit: New tie break !

01-07-2009, 07:03 AM
Tie break. This match is as tight as it gets. I'm so nervous.

Edit: Trading breaks. Back on serve 4-4

01-07-2009, 07:13 AM
A win from the hell :worship: :worship: :worship:

This guy is something else. I just hope that he doesn't have spent too much energy on the court. It's just a preparation before the big cake after all

01-07-2009, 07:13 AM
He really is made of steel. I love this man, how come as soon as he broke back in the second I knew he was going to win?

Nothing like a horribly tight match like this one to jump-start his engines.

01-07-2009, 07:15 AM
He won! 0-6 7-6(1) 7-6(5)

 :bounce: :help: :bolt:

01-07-2009, 09:35 AM
Tsonga/Giquel are playing doubles against Aspelin/Vizner. The French duo just took the first set in a tie-break 7-6(1).

These double matches can help improve Jo's game, especially at the net and get rid of the rust. Allez!

Edit: They won 7-6(1) 6-4 Nice and easy. Well done!

01-07-2009, 09:52 AM
OMG Jo :sobbing:

What a match!!!
so happy that he won :)

01-07-2009, 12:05 PM
Great to see how Jo again manages to win despite not playing well like what happened in the early rounds at Bercy and a few other times last year. He has a lot of heart and the fact he wins these tough matches even when out of form is a great sign because eventually his form will come back. Should be an interesting match against Richie.

01-07-2009, 01:07 PM
I hate this match...but winning is the most important....

01-07-2009, 01:52 PM
pheww, I'm glad he won, now beat Gasquet please!

01-07-2009, 09:49 PM
Krystlel made a writing report in his blog about the match against Nieminen :

I think it's pretty interesting (more than the headlines from the brisbane site where they talk about a slugfest  ).

No match for Jo today, it will be tomorrow against Richard.

01-08-2009, 09:57 AM
This match was absolute horror! Hope it will be the last so scaring.

01-08-2009, 02:35 PM
Good luck against Gasquet :awww:

01-09-2009, 03:18 AM
Good luck against Gasquet, Jo! And please be more gentle on our nerves this time ;)

01-09-2009, 07:53 AM
OK, so the livestream has begun (here you go : ) and the match should begin in about 25 minutes.

Allez Jojo ! Time to show who is the boss ! I like Richard too, but tennis is most of the time a one way to heaven. No place for the others

01-09-2009, 08:22 AM
That's just the beginning of the match but I must say that Richard already seems to me like a different player : more aggressive in the return, closer to the baseline when he can. I think it's maybe a little too soon for him to challenge Jo. But he is on the right way, I think.

01-09-2009, 08:27 AM
OMG, just OMG, how brilliant is this guy when he is on !

Richard isn't playing bad, Jo is just so strong !

01-09-2009, 08:33 AM
3-1. Go Jo!

01-09-2009, 08:34 AM
Jo is God.

01-09-2009, 08:41 AM
6-1 in first. Not bad.

01-09-2009, 08:41 AM
Yes he is !

6/1 first set, Jo

Richard is just doing what he can, but Jo is absolutely amazing today !

01-09-2009, 08:44 AM
Richard is in for the second set. See what Jo will do in response.

01-09-2009, 08:51 AM
It will be not so easy in second set. Come on Jo

01-09-2009, 08:53 AM
From the scoreboard, Jo appears to be in ominous form. He really means business. Fantastic start!

Gasquet seems to be settling in the 2nd set. Hope Jo continues the momentum.

01-09-2009, 08:55 AM
It's more balance now. Each player is good on his serve. It's going to be tough.

01-09-2009, 08:55 AM
I am biting my nails.

01-09-2009, 08:57 AM
Don't you have access to the livestream, Turquoise ?

01-09-2009, 09:03 AM
Jo is a little less good on his return and Richard has his game cooler. It's really tight.

01-09-2009, 09:03 AM
It's more balance now.

I hate this "balance" stuff. It makes me crazy.

01-09-2009, 09:04 AM
Jo is my favorite players but I really hope Richard can hang in there. Even if he wins I won't mind, I'd like to see Gasquet get some confidence.

01-09-2009, 09:06 AM
Don't you have access to the livestream, Turquoise ?

No, I'm at work, guiltily following the livescores at a corner of my screen - and reading Jo's forum ;) Thank God it's Friday

01-09-2009, 09:15 AM
Bad luck, Turquoise !

I know what you mean Simplet. I am torn a bit too.

And Yeah, it's really nerve wracking, Danakz

01-09-2009, 09:20 AM
Rahhhhhhhhhhhh !

Second set Richard, 6/4

Bad double from Jo to lose the set.

He has been less tentative in this set. He needs to revert to the all attack school. But it's good for Richard to take this set.

01-09-2009, 09:20 AM
We have 3rd set. It's killing me.

01-09-2009, 09:29 AM
I have to say that Richard is quite amazing for the moment.

One of this player have to win the tournament after.

01-09-2009, 09:32 AM
I am not strong enough to watch it. Closed the window.

01-09-2009, 09:35 AM
I think Jo is a little short physically. He said he would be really ready for Sydney and I think we know why.

01-09-2009, 09:41 AM
It’s only one break of serve, so it's not too late. Jo has a knack of making amazing come-backs.

Still, if he loses, I'll be happy for Gasquet. Gasquet has so much unrealised potential and he deserves some lucky breaks this year. It will be easier for him now that the burden of expectation of being the Number 1 French player is no longer on his shoulders. In contrast, Jo is very comfortable wearing that mantle.

Allez Jo! Keep fighting.

01-09-2009, 09:46 AM
Jo has changed the rythm. He saw that Richard was using his power against him. I am curious to see what he can do with it.

There is still some hope, I think.

01-09-2009, 09:49 AM
Rah no

I think he is tired

01-09-2009, 09:54 AM
It's a little disappointing, but I am not worried for Jo and it's a really good thing for Richard to have found the way to return the situation. It's very good for the rest of his season.

As for Jo, a couple of wins in more at Sydney and he will be ready and steady as ever for the AO. It's important to say also that he was incredible in the first set. But it's certainly too soon in the season to maintain this kind of level.

He is still in course in double too, with Gicquel.

01-09-2009, 09:54 AM

01-09-2009, 10:05 AM
Disappointed, but quarter-final is a decent result nevertheless. He needs better physical conditioning for AO, with potentially 5-set matches. Hope he can play himself into form at Sidney.

Congratulations to Gasquet. Good luck to him and Mathieu, I'll be happy if either wins the title.

01-09-2009, 10:06 AM
Heh  . Awesome first set, Second was really beautiful too with good play from both player, But Jo really let himself down with those two double faults. I'm not too bummed about the result, Richard played well and it will prevent Tsonga from becoming overconfident, but his level at the end of the third wasn't good enough at all!

01-09-2009, 01:27 PM
Jo
Good luck in Sydney :yeah:

the graduate
01-09-2009, 08:00 PM
good luck jo!

01-10-2009, 06:51 AM
We have the draw for Sydney :

He is in the semis of Djokovic, first opponent between Bolleli and Schuettler. A tough one : I have seen Bolelli against Gilles at the hopman cup and he is a client, if he is on. Then it goes from Nieminen to Berdych, and Djoko maybe in semi. The other part of the draw have Simon and Nalbandian. It's a good draw.

I am sure it will sound curious but I don't think it's good for Jo to win this tournament. I think he just needs to pass two or three rounds to find his rythm and to preserve himself for the AO, the objective can't be to win a MM tournament. Jojotards think bigger  .

01-10-2009, 11:15 AM
Yeah,I just agree with you Mac.He needs to find his best game. But this draw is really hard.Ok,we should wait and see^^

01-10-2009, 05:31 PM
I also agree with you guys, he just needs to find his rythm:)

01-10-2009, 07:09 PM
Just a quotation of Jo from l'équipe on the match against Gasquet :

Till 6/1, 4/4, everything was perfect for you. Then...

Jo: Then the energy has gone. It's like I was unable to switch "on". But this said, I wasn't far away from breaking in this game at 4/4. It was perfect at the beginning but I couldn't react when Richard himself switched on. The third set, it's nothing else than "chapeau, Richard" (a french expression for "congratulations, guy").

Then, there is a question about the quality of richard's return. Jo answered that he knew that Richard was one of the best returner in the world when he faces big serves (that's one of the explanation of his successes on grass, he uses so well the power of his opponent ;) ). He also said that he was himself moving slower and slower with the match on his own returns.

Are you worried for the AO in 9 days ?

Jo: Absolutely not. My motto is : "No panic". I am on the right track. I knew, before losing to Richard, that it wasn't the week to be the stronger. Of course I feel this loss, but I've done here three matches and I have the informations that I wanted. Now it's direction Sydney for the last spurts. In my opinion this quarter final is not the most important Gasquet-Tsonga of the season.

I am also quite optimistic like him. He is a diesel, he always needed a certain amount of time of preparation and of matches to be there. I think we are right on track. If we have the Tsonga of the first set against Gasquet for the all AO, there is no reason to be worried at all.

01-11-2009, 08:32 AM
6-4 6-3 double winner!!congratulations Jo!!!

01-11-2009, 09:52 AM
Wonderfull win for the Davis Cup !

01-11-2009, 10:02 PM
Congrats on the doubles Jo :worship:

01-11-2009, 11:22 PM
Congrats on the third doubles title, Jo! :yeah:

Good luck in Sydney! :bounce:
Here's his half of the draw:

(1/WC) DJOKOVIC, Novak SRB vs Bye
SEPPI, Andreas ITA vs MATHIEU, Paul-Henri FRA
ANCIC, Mario CRO vs (Q) MALISSE, Xavier BEL
MELZER, Jurgen AUT vs (7) ROBREDO, Tommy ESP

(3) TSONGA, Jo-Wilfried FRA vs Bye
NIEMINEN, Jarkko FIN vs LOPEZ, Feliciano ESP
(WC) GUCCIONE, Chris AUS vs (6) BERDYCH, Tomas CZE

01-12-2009, 04:46 AM
Congratulations on doubles title Jo! I agree with MacArthur: Brisbane and Sydney tournaments are a good build-up to AO, but don't expend too much energy trying to win them. AO is the big prize, and it's going to be tough to replicate or even better last year's results. All the best of luck.

01-13-2009, 07:30 AM
Jo is playing the first match of the central court session tomorrow against Bolleli. 11H00 local time, 0H00-1H00 french hour.

01-13-2009, 11:18 PM
The match has begun, but there seems not to have any streams working around here... again.

It's 1/1 for the moment.

01-13-2009, 11:37 PM
Break Jo, 4/3 !

01-13-2009, 11:39 PM
Still no streams, what are they doing...? And meantime Del Potro/Gulbis in Auckland works perfectly well :(
Jo broke, it's 4-3 :yeah:

01-13-2009, 11:53 PM
First set Jo, 6/4 !

This livestream will be working later for Sydney, but nothing else for the moment....

01-13-2009, 11:59 PM
Break, Jo 1/0

01-14-2009, 12:06 AM
i suppose there are no web streams for jo's match?

01-14-2009, 12:10 AM
Another Break for Jo : 4/1 !

01-14-2009, 12:10 AM
Unfortunately, no livestreams availlable for Sydney at the moment. There will be one only for the night session I think.

01-14-2009, 12:13 AM
The serve is there : 11 aces and around 75% of successful first serves.

5/1 Jo

01-14-2009, 12:18 AM
Victory !

6/4, 6/1

Excellent looking second set from the scoreboard with three breaks and six or seven aces !

Bring on Berdych now !

01-14-2009, 12:25 AM
Didn't berdych lose to Guccione? I think there are no stream at all for sydney, on bet 365 I can only see Tipsy-Hewitt scheduled?

A good clean win for Tsonga at least, even if we couldn't see it.

01-14-2009, 12:26 AM
Ok, ignore what I just said. Birdbrain being around again, it's either Nieminen or Guccione for the next round.

Nieminen is a tough client that Jo has barely beaten at Brisbane and the gooch being australian, it could be tough as well.

Anyway, it will be tomorrow and I really hope to find a stream this time...

01-14-2009, 12:27 AM
Yeah simplet, no livestream for Sydney before the night session. But tomorrow is another day. We can only hope.

01-14-2009, 12:30 AM
For f**** sakes, the livestream for Sydney just appeared !

It's Paulo/djoko. Still an interesting match though.

01-14-2009, 12:35 AM
What the hell? Still, I only get a black screen on my different streams for the djoko-mathieu match, so I don't even know if that will be streamed. I have a mind to hit the sack now anyway.

Nevermind the video is on now. Maybe they just hate french people in Sydney I don't know. Would have loved to see Gasquet-Simon or even a little bit of Cornet also but hey.

01-14-2009, 12:46 AM
It isn't good :

Seems that he had some back problems during the first set. Just hope it's nothing to fear...

Yeah, we had some hard problems with the diffusion of Jo's match in autralia. That's strange.

01-14-2009, 01:34 AM
Jo stormed through 6:4 6:1 :yeah: Has anyone seen it?

01-14-2009, 02:01 AM
It isn't good :

Seems that he had some back problems during the first set. Just hope it's nothing to fear...

Yeah, we had some hard problems with the diffusion of Jo's match in autralia. That's strange.

yeah I saw the pic ,he asked for the doctor.I hope everything will be OK.NO MORE INJURY

01-14-2009, 04:49 AM
It will be a rematch against Nieminen, a tough match certainly.

01-14-2009, 07:28 AM
I'm impressed at how easily Jo disposed of Bolelli. Well done! Nieminen shouldn't be that tough second time around, he will have a better idea of his opponent's strengths and weaknesses. Now that Jo has got some matches under his belt, he will get better and cut down on unforced errors. Just hope that the back problem is not serious and he will be fit at AO.

He seems confident about his form, and certainly not afraid of the top 4. I like his attitude.

01-14-2009, 08:36 AM
He is playing tomorrow against Nieminen for the last match of the night session, after Ancic-Djokovic.

01-15-2009, 08:02 AM
He has withrawn from Sydney for his back problem

I just hope he'll be fine for Melbourne

01-15-2009, 08:28 AM
Bon sang.... c'est pas possible :banghead:

He can't miss the Australian Open, please no :sobbing:

01-15-2009, 08:40 AM
I need to find some secluded place to cry desperately.

01-15-2009, 08:46 AM
Can I come with you ? TT
According to l'Equipe (

«Je me suis décidé dans l'après-midi parce que j'avais vraiment trop mal. Je ne pouvais pas jouer. Mon physio a tout tenté hier, tout comme celui de l'ATP ainsi que le médecin mais ils m'ont dit que ce serait trop dur de jouer dans ces conditions. J'espère juste que je pourrais disputer l'Open d'Australie mais je ne le sais pas encore», a expliqué le Tricolore, finaliste à Melbourne la saison passée.

"I've decided this afternoon to withdraw because it was hurting too much. I couldn't play. My physio tried everything yesterday, as the ATP's and the doctor did but they all said it was too dangerous to play under these conditions. I can only hope that I will be able to compete in the Australian Open but I can't be sure of anything right now."

01-15-2009, 08:52 AM
Jo isn't sure about the AO? Gosh, no... I hope, he'll be fine :awww:

01-15-2009, 09:06 AM
It's unbelievable how that guy can't play few tournaments in a row. So talented but so fragile.

01-15-2009, 09:19 AM
He was saying yesterday it's nothing worrying ("rien de méchant", he says in L'Equipe today), so maybe the media are a bit exaggerating too. They love to make a big deal out of Jo's physical problems.
But I know the last quotes are worrying. On the other hand, he can't withdraw from the event and stress it's just precautionary.

01-15-2009, 09:33 AM
On the other hand, he can't withdraw from the event and stress it's just precautionary.

It makes sense and I really hope it's the reason of those alarming quotes ! There is a few pics of his press conf on getty images, but I don't know how you can see them without the watermarks. Still on one of them he looks so sad and worried. And the AO begins in 3 days :scared:

01-15-2009, 09:41 AM
what I can poor Jo..

01-15-2009, 10:07 AM

The withdrawal could be a precautionary measure, so I suppose we should not panic yet. On the other hand, if the back injury is more serious, then he and his team will have to consider the risks of aggravating it, and withdraw from AO if necessary. Tough decision, especially as we all know just how much he has been looking forward to this grand slam.

Please stay healthy Jo and and live to play another day.

Hopefully he'll be fit for the Aussie Open:)

Found this on his website (the official one : :

« Un peu flippé ! »

Me soigner et me reposer.

There's audio too, if you go there.

Rough translation :

Jo-Wilfried, How is your health?

It could be better. I'm hoping I'll be able to play at the AO. It started to hurt yesterday at the beginning of the match against Bolelli. I finished the match, because he was giving it to me. I wasn't feeling well, that's why I had to take several medical time-outs. After the match, once my body started to cool down, it began to hurt a little bit more. So I took anti-inflammatory pills, and had my physiotherapist work with me. Today I decided not to play against Nieminen, I didn't want to make it worse.

What's you're physical condition?

I'm not completely stuck. My lower back is stiff, and I can't move. For the moment, I can't run, so I try to be patient and wait. That's the only thing I can do. Rest and get treatment. It happened to me before. It took me two weeks to recover. But this time the pain is really not as strong as last time. I've had several little bouts like this one in the past, and I was back on my feet three or four days later. So we wait.

Are you worried?

I'm freaking out a little bit yeah! But I try to be positive at the same time. It's not the first time I'm down before a big event. One thing's certain : if I'm lucky enough to play, I'm going to be hungry. I'll fight for every point.

When are you going to make a decision for the AO?

I'll wait until the last moment. Maybe everything will be back to normal in a couple of days. There's no way to know.

01-15-2009, 02:53 PM
I don't know what to think. It doesn't seem to be a real hard injury like with his knee last year. But it's really worrisome for the AO.

He still have four days to recuperate, so everything is not lost.

01-15-2009, 04:04 PM
:sad:no, not again, poor Jo!

01-15-2009, 05:55 PM
Hope it's not too serious :awww:

01-15-2009, 09:25 PM
oh c'est dommage :(
I hope he gets better soon, he has a lot of points to defend in Melbourne.
He used to have major problems with his back, sort of like a slipped disk or something horrible like that. It better not be serious this injury.

01-16-2009, 02:04 AM
I really hope this is nothing serious. Get well soon

01-16-2009, 06:12 AM
It's definitely not precautionary, he sounds quite worried. He says he knows he'll regularly have lumbagos after the herniated disc story, last time was during the summer 2007, it can last a few days or 30 days, there's nothing they can do about it. This time it doesn't feel as bad as the other times when the pain really was unbearable, but he has no idea if he will recover in time for the AO. They didn't do anything wrong either, they always take so many precautions for his back, it's just bad luck. Last year he wasn't sure to be able to play either a few days before the AO because of a problem with the thigh, so maybe he'll get lucky again.

01-16-2009, 06:47 AM
We can only hope, but thanks for the article, Françoise :yeah:

I think everyone saw the draw for the AO, he is in the quarter of Murray and have some quite abordable matches on the route to the quarters. But obviously, it's going to be a concern only if he plays.

There is still a little hope, so we must endure it :)

01-16-2009, 08:49 AM
I read one article in Chinese tennis webside, they wrote that the tournament director of ausopen gave Jo a call, asked to his injury. Jo said:he will arrive at Melbourne as soon as possiable. He make sure he can play the match.
I don't know the news is true or not,but I hope just like some friends said before, the withdraw is a tactical, not very serious.Good luck to Jo!

01-16-2009, 10:17 AM
Thanks for the news Truc & SelvenluvJo. If the organisers give him a late start (Wednesday), this could give more time to recuperate.

I can imagine how worried he must be feeling. He's been plagued by bad luck every time he gains momentum. He doesn't deserve this, we need him, the sport needs him.

Hoping for some good news next week

01-16-2009, 05:25 PM
I know you want some good news and I am not the kind of man to disppoint my fellow Jojotards ( :haha: ). So here is a piece of good news :

A little translation :
Injured of the back since wednesday, Jo-wilfried tsonga still hopes to play at the AO. Arrived today at Melbourne, (...) the frenchman feels a little better though he is still unable to properly play. (... gosh how can a journalist be more uninteresting :tape: ) blah blah...
THE intersting part : Jo said : "At three days from the start, I feel like it's going to be OK."

Usualy he is very honest with himself, so I think it's something good to take. :D

It's coming from the RMC site by the way :

01-16-2009, 08:11 PM
Let's hope he will be o.k, he will be so missed at AO if he can't play. Eurosport showed his semi against Nadal at last year's AO last night. It was the first time I had seen it and Jo was amazing.

01-16-2009, 11:12 PM
lets hope, :bigcry:

Not again, please :sobbing:

01-17-2009, 09:01 AM
Some other news to keep the hope alive :

Wino said that it was fifty-fifty yesterday and that he couldn't say anything more.
The schedule of the AO for Monday doesn't feature Jo. So he will begin at least tuesday, a day in more to heal himself.

There also was today an article in Le Parisien on Jo which were saying the exact same thing as Selvenluvjo the page before : the director of the AO tournament is certain to see Jo play there.

Thanks Selven

01-17-2009, 01:23 PM
Mac,you're welcome,This is what I should do.Each Jo 's fans is worried about Jo right now:sad::sad:

But the question is, if he is fit enough to play, will he be able to reach his normal level?
I only hear people talking here if he plays or not, but it is of no use if he plays and loses or retires...

yeah you're right.recently, everyone is doing some practice on the court, but Jo did not do anything(tomorrow is the openning day).In my opinion,if not the best situation, and would prefer not to play.

01-18-2009, 09:13 AM
From Le Parisien this morning :

"Je me sens mieux.
Donc tout ça me laisse espérer quelque chose..."

He gave an interview sunday afternoon (Australia time), and said he would be ready (:D). He might have been a bit short had he played Monday but he should be "relatively well" for Thuesday, since he still have two full days. He's still a bit worried his back might disturb him, but he says he almost always have some kind of injury before a big tournament (elongation last year), so he can "really hope for something good [in this tournament]".

01-18-2009, 09:17 AM
Case solved :worship: :

Brief translation :
He said just a moment ago : "I will be there, I am feeling better, even if I am still working on my back." He also said : "If I should have played today, I would still be a little hurt, but now I have two full days before me, I should be in good form."

@ Oranges and Selven : You should have more faith in him ;) . He has a full preparation behind him, 4 matches playes, three won, and is probably not feeling any pain. Why can't he make a great run this year too ?
Last year, he had won the exact same amount of matches, had a little injury just before the AO and you know the rest... ;)

I think it's going to be a great AO.

Thanks Simplet, even if you were faster than me. Mine is coming from this :

There also is a great article from l'équipe that Duong posted and translated in GM.

I so love the haters and the doubters !!!!! Blah blah blah it's expected blah blah liar ... Like everybody should know, it's a great way to prepare a tournament without training
Anyway, it's so good for the drama

01-18-2009, 11:14 AM
Thanks for the news. No lack of faith here ;), the prayer was for health. It's not as if he hasn't played this season, so as long as he's feeling fine, I think lack of practice is not such a big deal, though obviously it would be even better if nothing was troubling him and he was able to train. If the injury continues to niggle, it would be far more pf a problem so here's one again for that

01-18-2009, 11:15 AM
Thanks Simplet and Mac,it's really a good news.

01-18-2009, 02:15 PM
Hello everyone. What are the best fan sites for Jo? Is there one where you can dl his best matches like there is for Gilles?

It's terrible, but I totaly missed your post, xhr. The biggest french community of jo's fans is here :

There is no forum there, but a lot of nice comments from the fans in the "commentaires" section of each last news. There also is the "Jo online" section with "Mail to Jo", where you can leave a message for him. He is reading the comments there from time to time, his surroundings too like his mother.

You also have his official website where you can find some interviews and maybe some videos (I don't know for sure), but the forum is dead there :

Jo has such a great desire to step onto court that he is used to playing through the pain barrier. Last year in Bercy and Bangkok he had niggling injuries but got better the more matches he won so let's hope for something similar again. But Monaco is not to be underestimated in round 1 IMO.

01-18-2009, 06:17 PM
great news!

I was worried cause l'Equipe talked about a lombago and I was like"omg he will not be able to play at all"

Hey guys :wavey:
Jo looks to be running away with match now! He does look like he has put on a little bit of weight. How much training has he been doing since he hurt his back?

01-20-2009, 07:29 AM
Congrats Jo!!! :worship: Excellent match lol

01-20-2009, 07:44 AM
Easy win, as expected

For the weight, he said he is 92 kg, his normal weight, but he's aiming for 89 kg in the future.

Personaly, I think it's the shirt that gives this impression. It was more visible withe the ancient green one. The yellow one is cool by the way.

01-20-2009, 07:57 AM

still concert about his back, wish it doesn't matter:angel:

01-20-2009, 08:21 AM
Perfect start, winning in straight sets very comfortably. I liked what I saw, considering the back injury and little practice before his first match. Noticed his back was taped, and I hope that it holds up for the next match - and hopefully more matches - to come. Really proud of his performance today. :hatoff:

01-20-2009, 08:57 AM

YAY! Jo's playing aussi open! I didn't get a chance to watch the match but I saw some pictures. I think it's the shorter haircut that makes him look like he gained weight maybe? I hope he'll be in in good form throughout the tourney, fingers crossed.
Good Luck Jo!

01-22-2009, 08:56 AM
Jo prevailed 6-7, 7-6, 7-6, 6-2 over Ljubicic. :woohoo:

I'm very concerned though, because he kept grabbing his back, his buttock, upper leg... he must be in a lot of pain, and overnight the stiffness is bound to get worse. I'm praying that he recovers for the third round against Sela.

Jo continues to impress me with his fighting spirit. It was also wonderful to hear and see the support of the crowd - he's really won a lot of hearts.

01-22-2009, 09:18 AM
Wonderful win, but I am absolutely exhausted from the tension now.

A little less drama next time, please, Jo.

I think we need to wait for the injury report or for the slam predictions. I must say that Lyubo played unbelievably well most of the match, exactly like he used to when he was number 3 in the world. But Jo was far from perfect in that match. He has room to improve, even if his mental edge is right where it needs to be.

01-22-2009, 09:29 AM

Dudi Sela can be an unknown quantity but Jo will prevail I have absolute faith in his confidence, thats what was lacking last year .I hope he reaches the top five this year,he has a chance because he missed Wimbledon and Roland Garros plus Jo s game is best suited for grass.
Good luck Jo!!

It's coming, Amélie has just lost, unfortunately (for me).

All behind Jo !

01-24-2009, 02:35 AM
don't see much problems with Sela, everything else than a straight-sets-victory for Jo would surprise
however, he will need to step it up versus Blake (or Andreev) afterwards, not sure if an effort like vs. Ljubo would be enough

01-24-2009, 02:38 AM
Honestly, I don't see much of a threat in Blake for Jo. He beats him ratherly easily at Paris last year and he likes to play in rythm like Blake.

But a good match against Sela first.

Andreiev in great form could be hard though.

01-24-2009, 02:54 AM

Wow! Surprised that he lost the 3rd set in the manner that he did... But a good win altogether:yeah: Next blake. He definitely needs to step it up, although I have to say the match they had in Paris was really easy for Jo.

Allez :rocker2:

01-24-2009, 08:42 PM
Allez Jo:clap2::clap2:

Good luck aganist Blake. I hope i can watch this match:rolleyes:

Great start indeed. :yeah: First set 6-4

01-26-2009, 08:36 AM
and 2:0 in the 2nd :woohoo: Blake is not playing bad at all, so much the better the result so far

01-26-2009, 08:39 AM
Jo is perfect so far. He is calm and doesn't overplay

01-26-2009, 08:58 AM
Truly remarkable. He has'nt given Blake ONE game ball.

01-26-2009, 09:04 AM
One more to go, yay

01-26-2009, 09:12 AM
Jo is making me purrrr right now. Hope he keeps it up. Good job so far.

01-26-2009, 09:17 AM
I love that he hates losing a point even when he leads. It's so refreshingly "unfrench" :)

01-26-2009, 09:26 AM
I agree. I love his unwavering motivation, his competitivess, his self-belief that he can achieve great things. He's on the right track, unfortunately injuries have hampered him.

01-26-2009, 09:26 AM
Nice fireworks, but they should have waited till Jo won to celebrate :p

01-26-2009, 09:55 AM
Great fight back and an amazing point to get that first BP :yeah: Allez Jo take it in straights

01-26-2009, 09:56 AM
Jo's broken back. Well done!

*4-5 3rd set

01-26-2009, 10:07 AM
Two mini breaks :yeah:

01-26-2009, 10:11 AM
Great job. Nando next, can't wait

01-26-2009, 10:12 AM
BEAUTIFUL ! Sans peur et sans reproche, that's our JO !

01-26-2009, 10:14 AM
Straight sets win. :woohoo: My father just called me to celebrate. Fantastic!!!

Quarter finals here we come! Let's show Verdasco how it's done.

:bounce: :bounce: :bounce:

01-26-2009, 10:19 AM
Solid Win. Verdasco is a tricky client, but it's absolutely doable. :bounce:

It's a shame for Murray, a remake of last year's first round would have been great.

01-26-2009, 10:21 AM
Well done Jo, you were in fine form today. Best of luck for your next match and please stay healthy.

01-26-2009, 10:23 AM
VERY Gooooooooooooooood Jo!!
verdasco next,ALLEZ!!!

01-26-2009, 10:45 AM
Nice job Jo. Allez!

01-26-2009, 09:33 PM
Jo's been playing well, though I will have to wait to watch the replay of his match against Blake. I was way too tired to stay up until 3:30 am est last night.

01-26-2009, 09:51 PM
Yay Jo!!! :woohoo:
Fantastic win - completely dominant! Surprised to read that next up is Verdasco:eek: I thought Murray would have got through easily:confused:

01-27-2009, 02:53 PM
well jo trained today with a lefty, a special "former" top player...

the actual french davis cup captain, that is to say guy forget.

Good to play against a lefty but verdasco will hit the ball more stronger and be very agressive.
Jo will have to play as offensive as he use to but especially on his serve.
Allez Jo, do your best there!:bounce:

01-27-2009, 06:56 PM
I'm a little worried about the heat again today, which is going to be around 40 degrees, not ideal conditions for Jo to be playing a close match. I don't understand why the AO organisers do not use the retractable roof over Rod Laver Arena when it is that hot, and if they did it would be even better for Jo who is suited to indoor conditions. But anyway can't wait for this match, I have faith Jo will still pull this off even though Verdasco seems on fire. Good luck Jo!

01-27-2009, 07:16 PM
Nice jo. :yeah:

And a sweet match to come against Nieminen in addition. A couple of win in more and it will be a good preparation for the AO.

It's nice to see you in here btw, Nathalia :wavey:

Finding some stream should be hopefully easy tonight.

Nice AO isn't it ;) I'd dare to say scores are better than the game hehe... will be tough to defend the points, but the trick is to win matches when not everything goes so well.

01-27-2009, 09:53 PM
:wavey:about 1 hour to go. eurosport better be showing this. Allez Jo!:wavey:

What do you mean an hour? There's two women's matches before and the first should start in half an hour now. I'm considering getting a much needed nap, but can't decide how long they could actually take

01-27-2009, 10:35 PM
o-oh, last I checked it was supposed to start at 11 @rod laver. but I guess not ??? sorry. Oh, this is really no good, i'm not gonna be able to watch then :(
sorry for the confusion.

allez Jo:music:

bonne chance contre Verdasco:D

The roof is up today! Good news for Jo I think.

Yeah, nice AO for the moment :wavey: (and certainly nicer in the future  ).

It seems people are a little rash with Jo though, by expecting always the same quality of tennis than last year against Nadal. Obviously, it was an exception and I think it's fine this way. He is rock solid for the moment and that's all it counts. I think we are right on track at the moment for the major hurdles to come.

Verdasco in indor condition  ? How come I always like the AO ?

01-28-2009, 04:02 AM
Players warming up currently. Allez Jo.

01-28-2009, 04:11 AM
he won't need last year's shape to defeat Nadal
a 4set-victory would be ok as well:p

01-28-2009, 04:27 AM
Good start so far.

01-28-2009, 04:41 AM
Allez ! Take that set !

01-28-2009, 05:06 AM
:( Jo dominated until 6/6 but didn't break when he had occasions. Verdasco plays a perfect tie break and pinches the set...
