More importantly, last year the Shanghai thread gave birth to The Chat Thread. :bigcry: Very emotional time for all concerned.

Well, he was obviously hurt and tired, Claire.

You don't see me taking shots at Federer because he gift-wrapped that match for Gilles Simon in Toronto, do you? As far as match quality goes, that was WAY worse than the Monfils match. :(

I'd be happy with Rafa defending his points  Actually I'd be happy with him not playing.

Big Mouth has been telling the Spanish newspapers that now they are forgetting Shanghai and concentrating on DC final

It wouldn't surprise me if that had been the plan all along. For sure the DC is more important to Rafa than TMC, especially now the YE #1 has been tied up.

Memories of last year:

 I didn't know you were a guy.

Rafa's "famous" male MTF fans hardly ever post in here. Blaze used to post, but not so much recently and adeegee!. never  R=FK, who I also believe is male, doesn't show us the light much either. *thankyouJesus*

I've had to crank the fangirling up a notch because everyone kept getting my gender wrong.

All change now :inlove:

Yes, I did see that. Just when I think it's not possible for Rafa to get any further up Roger's ass, he manages an extra inch

Disclaimer: I do not believe Rafa lives up Roger's ass.

:o
Of course you had to came with a reply to that. It was like throwing a bait to a fish

Let's see: arrogance vs false modesty? I go with the last one, thanks.

P.S: It seems that  is your favorite smiley lately

And this is Rafa's forum, not a "Fedal" one. Not all of us like Fed too.
:o

l_mac
11-01-2008, 02:24 PM
Indeed, that's been the same story in a lot of recent matches and I'm not taking anything away from his opponents because they would have beaten him anyway but at a certain point in the match, he just seems to switch "off". He tries to find the "on" switch again but the belief isn't there.

Rafa is a rock mentally on clay but he isn't there (yet?) on hardcourts and esp. indoors.

If you take away his rhythm and you overpower him, you get the "deer caught in the headlights" look on his face (and I so hate seeing that).
Federer knows that he needs to serve really well against Rafa and if his serve is clicking, Fed's confidence goes way up against Nadal and Rafa's confidence goes way down.

Rafa...please, get some outside help. Uncle Toni needs to be at your side, but perhaps it's time to get another adviser who can help you make the next steps in your career?

Well, I watched it and I'm fine. I did have to watch the last 4 games on fast forward (far less painful when each "minute" lasts only two seconds) but I've done it now, and it's deleted forever

He really needs to do something about his 2nd serve :help:

Three times this year he's annoyed me by obviously deflating when he got behind in the score in a best of 3 match. Hamburg, Paris and here. There's no time for that in best of 3, Rafa. The match is away from you before you know it.

So 2007 is over for Rafa, and he has more points than ever :woohoo: Do you think it's too early to start worrying about all those points he has to defend between March and July? :crying2:

AMEN!

Are you kidding? I'm in denial about that until February 2008 or so.
:bolt:

No, not kidding about clay. No way he defends all his point next year. He'd have to play four weeks in a row with only one week of rest before the FO.

Hilde :speakles: SO critical!

l_mac - well done on correctly predicting Rafa's clay points loss.

l_mac
11-01-2008, 02:26 PM
Rafas gonna drop to number 3 next year if hes lucky. People have to recognise the difference between playing with an aggressive mindset (like he did against Djoko by changing direction on the forehand and backhand) and having a more aggressive playing style (Standing on the baseline LIKE HE DID AT WIMBLEDON 06 WHEN HE CHANGED HIS GRIP AND WAS ALMOST ON THE BASELINE TO RETURN).

If any of you could Contact Rafa you gotta get that message across to him or his glory days are over.

I think it's too soon to be sounding the funeral bells on Rafa's career.

Even if '08 is disasterous, he's still only going to be 22 at the end of it. Honestly what Rafa's achieved in his short career thus far is nothing short of amazing. Every time I've heard a pundit chime in on Djokovic's "Incredible" breakthrough year, jumping from #16 at the start of the year to#3 by the USO, I think about Rafa going from #31 to #2 (with a Slam title days after his 19th birthday) in the space of 4 months in 2005. Then the next year defending all his points in the clay season (and no-one gave him a prayer of doing that) and getting to the Wimbledon final. This year he was easily the best player in the world from Indian Wells to Wimbledon and, yes, the last 3rd of the year has been disappointing but surely nobody can look back on 2007 and think he's had a bad season OR that he's a worse player than he was 12 months ago?

He's 21. He's phenomenal. There's no other player that I'd rather watch, and it's not just because of the famous ass  , but because he's super talented and a joy to follow. As long as plays, I'll be a fan.

I must say that it's nice to see people posting in here  It's been really quiet since I started posting at MTF regularly.

Vamos Rafa forum in 2008!

The CHAT Thread - True Beginnings :inlove:

Uhmm, is FedFan_2007 JMPower's double account? ;)
It really bothers me that I don't know whose double account FedFan_2007 is, it bothers me a lot more than Roger's wins.
Don't kick me out of here but IMO most people in the position of Fed & Rafa would be A LOT more arrogant, I am surprised how normal they've both stayed with that constant craze around them.
On that note, have a nice week everyone! :wavey:

VAMOS RAFITO AND KILL THE EGO KING BASTARD NEXT YEAR !!! :rocker2:

Nice to see you around here again JMPower! :hearts: :inlove: Unfortunately yes, that's the best I can do right now, just like Rafa against Fed the other day. :o

 I was feeling for you the other day Maria, that Rafa spanking must have left a bitter taste in your mouth... :awww: Stay positive, the clay season is not that far away :rocker2: :o :inlove:

I wonder why is JMPower coming so often in our forum. Is it because of Rafa or is it because of the girls? ;)

 both actually :inlove:... Totally in love with both... ;)

JM knows how to get on our good sides :worship:

Mirka looks like the girl next door... That said, her ugliness helps Roger to keep focusing on his tennis and that's all that matters

No way  I'm here because I am a huge Rafa fan :o

A lot of traffic in this thread lately. Nice! Although a lot of it has been discussion about poker or JMP flirting with yana and MariaV .

As for the first I'm afraid I cannot contribute as I don't play cards at all (apart from black jack on New Year's eve visits to the casino). Regarding the second I think JMP has become our most loyal fan . I bet he has more posts here than in the Federer forum. :p No doubt he comes so often because the women here outnumber the men ;).

Anyway, back on topic. I think that we Nadal fans should not get so pessimistic after the recent defeats. He has done better this year than 2006 and has lost mostly to people who have been playing at a very high level (Ferrer, Nalby, Federer - all performing exceptionally well in those matches). Of course the recent TMC SF loss was a bit discouraging especially the 2nd set :tape: but we shouldn't draw any conclusions from it for 2008. I think he will be fine as long as he continues working on his game and manages his injuries well (it seems that they have been a limiting factor since 2005  - see interview posted by amc).

As for the clay season, winning RG again is the main thing. I don't care about the masters series. I'd rather see him do better on HC than win Rome and MC again. I think that Federer will push even more this year for RG and it seems that he is taking things more seriously (he is playing Estoril right before MC to get a better preparation. I guess winning MC will give him a lot of confidence since it has been a good predictor of RG champions ;) ). I don't know what Rafa's plans are for 2008, but I am hoping he will drop Barcelona and/or Hamburg. Playing RG 2007 with a numb foot must have been very unpleasant to say the least :help:.
Self proclaimed Mod Metis does her best to kill the buzz

I don't know why some of you say that Masters Cup is not so important. Rafa has already won DC, and as a big fan of Nadal I would like him to win everything at least once. For me it is obvious that I would prefer him to win Shanghai rather than Davis Cup. I remember how happy I was when he won Wimby and Olympic Gold Medal. One of the reasons why I was so happy was the fact that he won it for the first time in his life. Now he can do the same at Masters Cup.

Right, Xristos. You can't wait to see the hottest arms in tennis covered, while I'm stuck having to look at the unpleasant ones like Del Potro and Monfils hanging out, not to mention being stuck looking at the arms of all of the women players because someone in charge somewhere are a bunch of sexist pigs who think the audience only wants to look at women's arms. I will NEVER watch another womens match or any man wearing Nike sleeveless if Rafa's arms are covered up. Real life sucks so bad that one of the few pleasures I have left is the view of Rafa's hot bod, and Nike insists on taking that away from me.

And all because they think it's a good idea to remake Rafa to look like Rogi's little brother? It makes no sense. Rafa fans like Rafa's look, Rogi fans like Rogi's look. I don't want to see Rafa in a polo shirt on court any more than I want to see Rogi running around out there in sleeveless and capris. Good grief Nike is clueless.

Rafa has enough time to rest after the DC; and if he played for this long, what are a couple more weeks? If he can't play because of his injury, OK but otherwise he should get his famous ass in Shangai.

The Masters without the best player of the year would be epic fail imo; I just wouldn't enjoy it as much.

He's in bad condition, he can't compete at high level. Would you enjoy seeing him lose every match in his group especially if his knee is still soar? I wouldn't. If he's not well he better skip that tourney.

That's why I said 'if he can't play because of his injury'. And he seemingly can't so of course I don't hold that against him. I was clearly saying that if it was just fatigue/ the fact that he thinks the year has been busy enough he could've played but I don't think anyone wants him to play with a bad knee, including me.

But, seriously, I'd rather he just recuperate. Tendinitis of the knee is incredibly painful. I had a bout this year and before I got treatment it made my whole lower leg ache dreadfully. I don't care about either the year end tournament or Davis cup. Actually, as far as I'm concerned they could scrap the whole indoor winter season. Why not have tournaments in South America where the weather is nice?

Anyway, :wavey:  to everyone. I haven't been around much lately.

:wavey: Hi there!

The problem with tendinitis is that he'll keep it as long as he'll be playing :( I really hope he'll get better as soon as possible!
