Unfortunately Misha lost

[12] R Schuettler (GER) d [8] M Youzhny (RUS) 63 67(12) 64

I guess this is due to a lack of matches, a lack of confidence... Moreover, Schuettler is having some kind of a renaissance lately... (since Wimbledon actually)

 Misha

Youzhny / Zverev won the doubles crown in Tokyo AIG Open, no one even talked about it. I feel like there's only one Mishafan left, which is ME

They defeated two teams of specialists: Aspelin / Knowle (61 36 10-8) and Paes / Dlouhy (63 64) en route to the title...

:awww: I'm still a Misha fan.................. it's just that my job is so hard these days - I can't really access MTF from work anymore, and the hours are longer than I'm used to, - so I'm finding it hard to fit everything in and be around as much as I used to be  I'd never desert him though!

Gabashvili defeated Misha 75 46 76 in about three hours of play...
another first round exit..

Misha had broken in the 3rd set though... he was leading 31 then 42, but got evened by Teimuraz at 4-4, who then had a MP à 5-4 on Misha's serve...

saved.. 5-5

Gabahsvili had another MP at 6-5 on Misha's serve... saved again. 6-6. Then Misha totally collapsed in the tie-break where he had to face 6 MP..

I don't even understand why he's having such a horrible season since the end of the Australian Open... He didn't even play well in tournaments where he feels good such as Dubai, Rotterdam, Munich.. Only Wimbledon stands out with a 4th round run.. which corresponds to what he's used to. Apart from that.. it's chaos

Tennis is such a mental game  I guess once things start going wrong, players start to worry, and get tense, and their losses play on their minds, - and this makes them more nervous and more prone to making silly errors, and it's just a viscious circle. I'm sure he will back successfully next year - he is too good a player to have two bad years like this.

Can anyone steer me to Misha info? I don't know much about him other than the ATP stats. I was wondering about him - his life - what he is like. All that kind of stuff. He seems like such a cool person. I haven't found much to read about him to see his personality. The thread above says he is going to be a father in December - wow I didn't know that. Any help or info would be cool. Thanks. Oh, and he looks awesome in Japan this week! I hope he takes that title.

Unfortunately he didn't take the title, but he's truly returning to his former top form, which is good. I'm looking forward to a great Australian Open.
Otherwise, you have to know that Misha is pretty discreet, he doesn't like the spotlight too much. He's a very natural guy, very nice, and speaks English with a pronounced russian accent. He lost his father when he was younger in tough circumstances. But life goes on and he is to be a father himself now. He's very loyal to russia and to moscow (he's one of those who played the most matches in Davis Cup) and likes to keep it simple.

61 61 !!! I saw the match !!

Misha was soooo above his opponent. It was like two completely different categories. Misha's playing like he was playing in Dubai 07 (almost). He was running so fast. I've never seen him hit so hard this year than during today's match.
With this level, he can win the tournament. It's amazing how self-confidence can change a player. Misha's like a totally new player now.

What a great match it was !!!

So intense.
I watched it with Mlad (well, not really, we were watching it at the same time, that's all)
Anyway, I got really excited at 3-0 in the first set and then I became tense as Janko leveled up at 3-3.
Then I was so down after the loss of the first set. Misha really regrouped though : what an impressive second set !!
In the third, he had 3 break points at 4-2, leading 40-0 on Janko's serve, but wasn't able to convert those. I got tense again, haha.
Then, he another shot at 5-3, with four match points, and wasn't able to convert those either. I was panicking, haha. Then, he managed to close out the match, serving for it at 5-4.

14 aces overall !! That's the best he did this week !! He really raised his level at the right time !! :worship:

tedlesurfeur
11-04-2009, 04:57 PM
Misha def. Tsonga 67 60 30 ret.

The first set was extremely tight, Tsonga got the early break but Misha was able to break back, unfortunetately Tsonga prevailed in the tie break, but we could feel this was going to be a long way..

..because he had nothing left in the tank. Misha was still there, and left no chances for Tsonga in the second set, in every department !! 60.

At 30 in the third, Tsonga decided to retire. I personnaly think he could have played 3 more games compared to the 22 games already played in the match.. oh well.

Congratulations Misha !!! Unbelievable shots in the second set !!!

Doha's bottom half :

Troicki - Gimeno-Traver
Hajji - Rochus

Kubot - Maamoun
Stakhovsky - Youzhny

Garcia-Lopez - Qualifier
Qualifier - El Aynaoui

Gil - Starace
Bolelli - Nadal

This draw's not bad considering the opponents. Misha can reach the SFs, why not even more. I don't think Bolelli will be a thread to Nadal. Let's mind Troicki, he had a nice season end in 2009.

Muniu makes pretty ones.

So, guys, I have to tell you  I don't know if you knew, but there's a wildcard tournament in France, to enter the open 13.

512 people [it's like 4 grand slam draws - 9 matches], and the winner get a WC for the open 13 qualies.

This tournament is open to anyone !!!! (with a tennis licence), so I asked to get in, and I did !!! out of 11.300 people !!! I'm one of the 512 !!

Thanks! I am off to watch it now. American television was more interested in showing an American, such as a Williams sister blowout, rather than show a Russian and a Frenchman in a dream drama!

Hey, Mishafans, we're actually having someone who will hopefully see Misha in Rotterdam.

Please, write down your support messages in bold blue italics, we'll then make a card out of them and give it to him.

Hey Misha. Congratulations on your baby and on the Moscow title. It's great to watch you play and it's great to watch you enjoy tennis the way you do. I love your cross-court backhand! It's the best on tour! I'm also a player (amateur), and I try to have a fighting spirit on the court like you. Good luck in 2010.

Misha,

Congratulations on your baby, that gesture you've done after you beat Gasquet, I'm sure you're a happy daddy!I'm your big fan since the fabulous match vs Mathieu in Davis Cup:) I must admit your backhand is a kind of shot I could watch forever. I hope you have nothing against Poland ;) and I'll see you in some polish tournaments in the future.

Salut!

Sorry to barge in guys but I was doing my bi-monthly scouting for hot russian pictures and I stumbled upon here. Please tell me what this baby business is about? I must know. Is Misha a dad now? or is it some inside joke? I need to be enlightened because I am useless with these kind of news. It took me ages to find out Monfils dated Cibulkova, and that is past tense literally.

That was long ago. I came back in August  but thanks for asking. I did have a nice vacation :)

How are you doing?
By the way, I watched the Davis Cup matches against the Czek Republic, and have been sooo pleased with the outcome :worship:

They're not in my signature, because all of the serbs are favs of mine, including the girls Ana and Jelena  it must have been frantic in Belgrade after the 5th rubber. Well done guys.

I soooo do NOT want France to win the Davis Cup. I'm not exactly what one calls a patriot  In tennis, I fracking don't care about nations. I just care about players.

In my case, a lot of players I like are russian or serb :haha: it's just a coincidence.

I'm great, thanks :)

The atmosphere was great! :D :aparty:

There are some probs with Arena in Nov-Dec. Some circus booked dates a year ago from Nov 24-28., and on Nov 29, the court has to be finished for players to start practicing :tape:

So probably there's no chance for clay which they thought would give us advantage. More likely is hard again, which is better for France if Tsonga plays...

We'll see.

Wow is this thread dated  You will be happy to know that Misha is playing the China Open 2012 and is already through to the QFs where he will be playing Tsonga. He is playing like the Colonel again :) He won an ATP Tour title this year at the PBZ Zagreb Indoors. That Title was his 8th on the Tour. His record this year is 29-16. It is hard to believe he is 30 years old now!
