Ok, I couldn't find another thread for this so I decided to start one, feel free to merge it or move it if you so wish Deb! ;) also, any help with a title will be greatly appreciated, I'm useless at that kind of thing! :sobbing:

Andy's schedule for the rest of the year is:
China Open, Beijing 22/09
AIG Japan Open Tennis Championships, Tokyo 29/09
Mutua Madrilena Masters Madrid, 12/10

BNP Paribas Masters, 26/10
then possibly Tennis Masters Cup, Shanghai 09/11

Whether or not he plays all of these is anybody's guess but that's how he stands officially at the moment. :o

Nowhere to move or merge it to, was time for the fall season thread anyway, so thanks :) I like the title  At least for now :p

Who knows if Andy will even show up in beijing, and if he does who knows how hard he'll try (depends on how badly he wants to go to mardy's wedding :sobbing: ) I wish he wouldn't have entered here and just Tokyo (or waited and done Vienna or something before Madrid - oh wait that'd make too much sense :))...... so we'll see :o

well the fact that he has to play a live rubber tomorrow just gives him more of a reason to pull out of Beijing. but we'll see I guess, it would be pretty poor if Sam turned up in Beijing and Andy didn't using DC as an excuse. :o
I wish he wouldn't have entered here and just Tokyo (or waited and done Vienna or something before Madrid - oh wait that'd make too much sense :))...... so we'll see :o

Roddick cuts down Evans to reach quarterfinals in China
BEIJING (AP) — Andy Roddick overcame a Davis Cup loss and jet lag to reach the quarterfinals of the China Open, while David Ferrer wasn't as fortunate.

Despite falling behind early, the second-seeded Roddick defeated fellow American Brendan Evans 6-4, 6-3 on Thursday.

Top-seeded Ferrer was never in the second-round match, falling 6-3, 6-3 to Dudi Sela of Israel, who is No. 92 in the rankings — 87 spots behind the Spaniard.

Roddick and Ferrer had byes in the first round and extra days off following Spain's emotional Davis Cup semifinal victory over the United States last weekend in Madrid. Ferrer defeated Roddick in the five sets.

"From 4-2 down in the first set I started feeling a little better," Roddick said. "It's a little tough going from clay last weekend in Spain to dealing with the jet lag and what not."

American Sam Querrey, who also played in the Davis Cup, lost to Bjorn Phau 5-7, 6-3, 6-4. Defending champion Fernando Gonzalez rallied for a 3-6, 7-6 (4), 6-1 win over Go Soeda, and fourth-seeded Richard Gasquet defeated Lu Yen-hsun 7-5, 6-1.

In women's play, second-seeded Ana Ivanovic defeated Alize Cornet 6-1, 7-6 (1) to reach the quarterfinals. Svetlana Kuznetsova advanced with a 6-2, 6-3 win over Alla Kudryavtseva.

Defending champion Agnes Szavay lost to Anabel Medina Garrigues 6-2, 6-2.

The China Open is a combined ATP and WTA event because of a hiatus during the Beijing Olympics.

Roddick, who was mentored by Andre Agassi, gave the younger Evans a few tips.

"I told him I thought he took his foot off the accelerator a little bit when he was up in the match," Roddick said. "And maybe he stopped being as aggressive as he was to get in the lead, and that allowed me to get a rhythm."

Roddick acknowledged the outdoor hard court in Beijing suits him better than the red clay in Spain.

"I'm able to do some more stuff on a quicker court, a hard court," he said. "Clay limits my game a little bit more."

Roddick says US tennis in good health

BEIJING (AFP) — Andy Roddick, the top remaining seed in the men's draw at the China Open, said Thursday that the game in the United States is in good health despite no Grand Slam titles in five years.

Roddick, who won his second round match in Beijing against compatriot Brendan Evans 6-4, 6-3, was the last US player to win a major -- the US Open in 2003.

Defending champions the United States were beaten in the semi-finals of the Davis Cup by Spain over the weekend, with Roddick part of the losing team.

But the former world number one remained upbeat about the strength of the game in his home nation.

"I think the biggest thing as far as negative connotations surrounding US tennis is the players we have had before," Roddick said.

"If you compare us with other countries we're very, very strong," he added, saying the US has three players in the top 25 and two in the top ten.

Roddick is currently ranked eighth and James Blake ranked 10, with Mardy Fish 23rd on the list.

He also pointed out the 2007 Davis Cup win and the fact that in the Bryan brothers, the US had the the top-ranked men's doubles team.

Roddick said the game is "doing OK and we have a couple of young guys who are exciting," noting Sam Querrey, also part of the losing team against Spain.

"I think it's going in as good a direction as it has for the past four or five years," he added.

And he said the women's game was strong, with the Williams sisters continuing to win Grand Slams.

Roddick said he felt a responsibility towards younger players coming through, adding: "Andre (Agassi) was great with me when I was coming up."

Thanks for all the photos and videos. That's a bad scoreline playing someone like Evans but at least he won. David Ferrer was not able to recover from his jetlag/DC matches and lost to Sela so I guess it's all good.

That would be a dumbass thing to do...One might say that playing Beijing and Tokyo when one of his good friends is getting married is a dumbass thing to do :p On the one hand, he needs the points and he needs to make the final to pick up anything meaningful. On the other hand, it's a good friend's wedding and it'd be unfortunate for him to miss it.

Somehow Andy managed to win today. According to the stats they showed he had 8 winners to Ferrero's 21. I won't say anything else about that (except that it could be wrong b/c some other stats didn't match those on the ATP SB, but watching the last 2 games alone it was quite clear :tape: ).

Oh and Gasquet, Gonzo, and Robredo all lost their QFs.

video: http://www.atptennis.com/en/multimedia/default_video.asp?videoid=787

edit: he says he's tired  that's what you get for making your schedule this way  and playing passive tennis that forces you to run around for almost 3 hours, and forces you to play all the three setters last week doesn't help, why can't you fucking learn that:lol::

Roddick, coming off a win in the China Open on Sunday, said he was tired after last week’s tournament.

“I feel like I played OK,” the American said. “I’m tired coming off last week, I’ve played a lot of tennis. He played well and I’m just happy to be through and play again.”

Roddick, who also had a first-round bye, will face Jurgen Melzer (http://sports.yahoo.com/ten/players/289/;_ylt=Aol_HfUOopS1oGfXzVYolgkgv7YF) of Austria in the third round. Melzer beat Simon Stadler (http://sports.yahoo.com/ten/players/3998/;_ylt=Aiis34VDr4O.oaXzu9QX5kYgv7YF) of Germany 6-2, 6-3.

Roddick trailed 4-1 in the second set but fought back to take a 6-5 lead only to be broken in the final game by Minar, who then won the second tiebreaker.

“You always expect a tough match but not necessarily three tiebreakers and 2 hours and 45 minutes,” Roddick said. “I was facing new conditions, I was run down from last week and I had a long flight from Spain the week before.”

In the third set, Roddick was given a code violation for an audible obscenity.

“We didn’t see eye-to-eye on a couple of things,” Roddick said. “I probably should have got a warning earlier in the match but I didn’t feel I deserved it when I did get it. At that point, I’m not prone to logical thinking all the time.”

Roddick won the third tiebreaker with an ace, one of 37 in the match for the American.

By the Baseline he means the area in the back of the court where they paint the tournaments name. :)

MisterQ had a good joke about when Andy and Andre played doubles together at Queens. Which was the doubles formation they played was "one up one back"...Andre's on the baseline and Andy's five feet behind it. :haha:

I don't think he can clinch, but he's in pretty good shape: http://www.menstennisforums.com/showpost.php?p=7699171&postcount=249 he only gains 2 points for making the semis b/c he's played so many fucking optionals this year. Interesting. Yea, I don't think he's worried about points as much as he is confidence. I'm a huge believer that those that finish strong start strong at the Australian. So as long as he keeps winning and keeps playing well, it's all gravy. Although, I wouldn't mind a victory in Madrid or Paris.

If the winning keeps up, you might wanna say the season started at the US OPEN. :haha:

Even it is not a smart way to play tournaments in a row, as I am Japanese, I am glad Andy finaly came to Japan.
I live in U.S so I couldn't watch all Andy's match, but I heard Andy was popular in Japan too. Many people wanted to see Andy's rocket serve.

I heard the quality of linesmen was terrible there. Many players were upset about this. And there is no Hawk eye system. I hope it is getting better in next year.

"It's disappointing," Roddick said. "I don't know how to rate it. You feel like you have a match in your grasp and then let it go."

Roddick, who had 25 aces, said Berdych made the most of his chances.

"He hit some good shots," Roddick said. "I don't think I missed any easy shots. He played a good game and this surface suits his game because he hits the ball hard and flat."

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAAAAAAA :haha:

that should suit your OLD(and real) game too you......:o:o:o:o:o:o:o:o:o:o:o:oholy fucking shit. it's stuff like that that makes it really hard to hope that he will turn his game around for the end of his career. Does he not realize that how he played in Dubai is not the way he has played the whole fucking rest of the year? I mean, I don't think he's that stupid, but if he's not, why isn't he doing something about this?

Oh Andy, very disapointed to see that result. damn TBs. :( Both Andy and Richard lost tight 3 setters in the semis, yesterday was a bad day for me! :sobbing: (If I wasn't so busy at the mo I might actually care! ) Still Berdych went on to win so at least that shows that he is in form at the moment I guess.
Yeah, if only he's not doing a charity event in the US the day before Madrid starts, I might think he's serious about doing well there (for the first time ever.)
maybe he's trying out the jetlag theory again. ;)

Deb, feel free to change the title whenever since I won't have internet at home until next monday so I won't be around much. ;)

Good two weeks for Andy, good results. Lost a match that could have gone either way(probably should have gone Andy's way) to the eventual champion. So there's a lot of upside to that and you just gotta look forward to the master series and hope Andy pickup some more ranking points to put himself in good position for the AO.

(probably should have gone Andy's way)There's no probably about it. Andy's turning into quite a choker the past three tournaments he's played. So there's a lot of upside to that and you just gotta look forward to the master series and hope Andy pickup some more ranking points to put himself in good position for the AO.Yes and no. He fought well despite being tired, but he allowed matches go on way way longer than they should by failing to close out second sets where he had MP on his serve in both. That's troubling. The only player inside the top ninety in the world he beat in Beijing was JCF, who he owns. He didn't beat anyone good in Tokyo either, and the first time he came up against a top 20 player he couldn't put it away (in a really bad choke no less). That's even more troubling. The way he was playing - back to that painful-to-watch passive shit is the most troubling of all. And considering he's got a charity event here in the US the day before Madrid starts, it's hard to be optimistic he'll put up a good result there, especially considering that he's never done well there anyway. Utterly ridiculous scheduling on his part. He should've come home after Davis Cup and taken 2 weeks off and showed up this week in Vienna or something and just gone 4 weeks in a row. That would be less stupid and probably even less hard on his body than this ridiculous jet-setting schedule he's had the past month and will have in the next few weeks. There's a reason why Roger and Rafa can have such good years and remain relatively healthy. They would never ever plan schedules this stupid. I wouldn't be surprised at all if Andy gets hurt in Madrid or something this year, as a result of this ridiculousness.

I'm glad Andy made the Japanese fans happy, they don't get to see him very often. :)

Yes, Andy flipped out over some bad calls as you can see from the photos. Andy's reaction shots are always entertaining.

So, in all, it's a mixed bag but still a decent week for Andy; his choking is a real problem though. Berdych was inspired this week. I just hope Andy plays well in Madrid and more importantly, stays injury-free.

Adding photos from the Berdych match. More photos are in these posts here (http://www.menstennisforums.com/showpost.php?p=7692682&postcount=156) and here (http://www.menstennisforums.com/showpost.php?p=7695526&postcount=163).

It's too bad because Andy for most of his career has been the anti-choke guy. He's the type of player that gets beaten by guys playing better but if he gets an opportunity to close something out he does. Again though, let's not overrate a few bad performances...let's the look at the big picture a win and SF is pretty decent. Hopefully Andy gets enough match play to start closing out these matches where he gets the lead. Again I'm not really thinking about this year but more playing for the AO...where I always think Andy has a good chance to win another slam.

More jetlag, still coachless, he has a great shot of winning this title. ;)

I'm watching the Sox-Rays match and the commentators mentioned Andy Roddick. :D He said 'Becket handles fastballs the way Roddick does tennis balls' or something to that effect. I probably got the entire quote completely wrong but who cares? They mentioned Andy during Game 2 the ALCS.

Madrid - Weren’t We Just Here?

October 13, 4:04pm GMT+5 by Doug Spreen (http://www.andyroddick.com/author/doug-spreen/)

Back in Madrid. Yea it seems like we were just here because we were just here. Four weeks ago we were here for the semi-finals of Davis Cup and now we are back for the Masters Series Tournament. The two week we spent in Asia went very well. Andy won the tournament in Beijing and got to the semi-finals in Tokyo where he lost a very tough match. We left Tokyo and spent a week back home. I know for Andy and myself that week seemed to last only a few days. Before we knew it we were back on a plane heading across the atlantic going to Madrid. This is the start of the last three weeks of the regular season schedule for the ATP. We head to Lyon next week and then Paris after that for the last Masters Series Tournament of the year. Andy has been playing good tennis the last few weeks and he hopes to continue to play well to finish out the year.

Considering there was some also kind of hip problem/mentioning in his match with Seppi... if Andy lost to Robredo with all these factors -- I'd definitely LOL first at the sheer absurdity, then, of course, gradually move into crying because it'd be one of those "wtf!" :retard: moments, indeed. When's the last time Andy wasn't on the main court at a Masters event? If he wins tonight (if he ever gets to PLAY tonight:lol: ) tomorrow he's on the 2nd (small) court, that has no hawk-eye or anything. Of course, he hasn't won tonight yet, and he'd have to play third tomorrow after 3pm after probably not getting off the court til midnight tonight or later.... against Monfils who was done before I even woke up today. Yeah, he won't be making the QF here this year either :o

Whoo. Nice!

I loved the commentators quips, and it was really great to see Andy playing like that (even if Robredo was in poor form a good lot of time). I cross my fingers that he can keep up the inspiration and make a win over Monfils, too, though the probability of that is pretty slim.
