Murray now has beaten Nadal, Federer and Djokovic and played a fantastic match vs. Nadal today.

Federer played a good, solid match vs. Djokovic yesterday and will want to save his year by winning his first grandslam in the season.

Murray leads the h2h 2-1 but today's match may cause Murray to be a bit more tired than usual. It's also Murray's first GS final.

Who will win?

If Murray doesn't win with this great run he's been having (according to his standards), I doubt he'll ever win a slam; unlike Djokovic last year who already made all the slam semi-finals at this point. Just maybe though, he can keep up with this performance into the next few years.

Federer will win easily by spanking Murray. It will be like the FO final this year, only that this time it will be Fed doing the humiliation in a slam final instead of being humiliated in a slam final..... Federer wins 6-1 6-3 6-0 Payback time for Fed only that unfortunately for him it will be vs Murray instead of vs Rafa....

Murray in 4. He is like a reincarnation of Federer's worst nightmare in his younger tennis days...Hewitt. Except he is still fresh, hits a bigger serve and groundstrokes (instead of just a steady backhand, he'll be firing on that side as well), and doesn't have a bum hip. Instead of killing Fed with that topspin lob Hewitt possesses, he will be pulling him in with the dropshot and passing him. And he'll scramble for everything, drawing those forehand errors by the handful.

That is, unless Murray lets the occasion go to his head, and rolls over for Fed. You'll know that is happening by the unforced error count.

If Murray comes out and play like he did yesterday and today than he will crash Federer. But I expect him to be nervous and with many ups and downs. On the other hand I don't expect that Federer will repeat his performance against Djokovic and even if he does he will be forced to hit with more pace and even more accurately and what is most important more times to get a point so the result will be lots of UE's. Final verdict: Murray in 4.

rofe
09-07-2008, 10:36 PM
Perfect final for me. Murray will definitely have more chances in the future to win a GS. He is ready for it. I have a slight preference for Fed tomorrow though.

Bernard Black

It's difficult to predict this with it being Murray's first final in a major, we really don't know how he'll react. He played brilliantly the last 2 days, but this was helped by Nadal looping the forehand into his strong backhand constantly. Federer won't be doing that.

I have to favour the Swiss purely on experience. If Murray plays a blinder though, obviously he has a great chance. There's a lot of pressure on Federer, as quite frankly, he stank in the last two major finals he's been in so he'll be looking to put in a performance here.

I mean come on...

At RG, it was either carreer slam for the GOAT or Nadal cementing his place as an all time clay great.

Then the Wimbledon drama, with again Federer going for the record or Nadal doing a Borg.

Now this: Murray trying to be the first Brit to win a major since 1936 or Federer going for 5 in a row, #13...

You have to love this era.

Federer wins this one.

Roger is just too motivated to lose this match, also he proved against Djokovic that he is well and can go to that Jesusfed gear of his, no doubts in my mind that we will be congratulating Fed on his 13th Grand Slam by tomorrow, however this means the match is in his own hands and he can lose it if he didn't play solid without too many silly UEs, Fed in 3 or 4 :worship:

For some reason i make parallels from Muzza USO run this year to Safin's USO run in 2000.

Where he was playing amazing tennis to get to finals, yet everyone was convinced that the GOAT 'Sampras' would win the finals convincingly.

Yet Safin played the match of his life and blitzed him in 3 easy sets. Dont be suprised if muray does this tommorow.

I'd love for Roger to win. I really do. I just don't like the match up at all. If Murray had beaten anyone else but Nadal, he would be less confident but to beat someone who had literally dominated him in their past 5 meetings got to give Murray an amazing amount of confidence. I think if he is aggressive and attacks Federer's second serve, he could wrap it up in 3. If he goes missing for a set or two, then he can lose in 3 sets. So it's very intriguing. My heart says Roger but head is for Murray.

Murray in 4.

Explanation:
- About Murray is going to be more tired becasue of yesterday´s match. Absolutly false, yesterday he just played 1 hour and a half.
- About Murray lack of experience. False, the guy knows how to win MS and a lot of finals. In his career he has won 8 finals and only 4 lost( including when he was just a young promise...)
- About Roger´s motivation. False, how about his motivation in every FO final ? And how about Wimbly´s 08? Is this a key factor? Of course not, as you can see.
-About how well Roger played against Djoko. False, ok, he played quite well but Djoko wasn´t in the match at all and actually I didn´t see Federer played as well as he used to do in the past. He did a lot of unforced errors as usual. And if someone has played really well this one has been Andy Murray against the nº1, he did play wonderful.

Murray has been playing out of this world so far. I noticed it for sure when he blew Wawrinka off the court. He exorcised his demons against Nadal, a man he was 0-5 against, and in the last match had a real chance to win but his nerves blew it for him. He stood the test of waiting out a rain/one day delay to finish him off. One would be foolish to think he has no chance against Federer, whom he owns 2-1 on HC. Remember, Murray's the one who won a big HC title this year, not Federer.

I say Murray in 4, maybe 3 if he's really concentrating.

But there are other players with convincing victories against Nadal.

And Wawrinka was a dead horse as he played far over four hours the match before. Murray is not the consistency in person, otherwise he had not needed four hours and five sets against Melzer. Llodra was on the verge to get him to a decisive set too. It is difficult to judge which Murray will show up, it is the same for Roger, of course.

Murray can only win this match by winning tight sets like 7-6,7-5 where it can go either way.
Doubtful he could win the match in straight sets but Federer can beat him in 3 easy sets.
For Murray the first set is key and will dictate the pace of the match. If he wins it we could see a match similar for Federer against Andreev but if he looses it i don`t think he could take more then 1 set.
One thing is sure:if Murray would loose the first two sets the match is over but if Federer somehow would loose the first two sets we could go to a fifth.

I really don't know.

Fedmug with huge experience and big serve could clinch it - or Muzza in tight 4 or 5 sets.

So, all I know is that Muzza won't win this one in 3. :jinx:

Hmmmm... The last important matches that Murray lost in the past 2 months were to Nadal at Wimbledon and Toronto... And he beat Nadal yesterday. Now I'm starting to think that Murray will win today :toothy:.....

Greg Rusedski is crazy. He just said Murray's forehand is on a par with Federer's.

On an unrelated note, how do Sky Sports fit Greg's chin in the studio?

Muzza !

Who is umpiring?

I am sure that Americans would not allow non American to be on a chair?

Vietnam vet or Steve Ulrich?

No chance,

He was umpiring at Wimbledon finals, no way Americans would give him that role.

He didn't do the men's final at Wimbledon though. Ulrich was in the US semis I think as well, so it shouldn't be him. Jake Garner hasn't been seen around as far as I know.
Ramos would be the best choice. :worship:

Watching his run to the final on sky, he has come through some wars in this tournament apart from the match vs roitman

Roger in 5. Andy is a bad matchup for him but still experience and a better 2nd serve will prove decisive when it comes to the 5th set.
