I know it's a long shot but is there any chance of Ferrero playing here? He missed most of the season and now that he's out of the top 50 he needs the matches and points.

Henri Kontinen has injured (wrist) and can't play before december. Quite a disappointment to the tournament organizers and to finnish tennis audience.

Waiting for the acceptance list. Can we find it already somewhere?

The list should be out sometime this evening. The tournament director said there will be plenty of Top-100 players here and some Top-50 players have been in contact about a possible WC.

Yes, his scores haven't been bad at all. It'll be interesting to see how he does in Astana this week. He should win his qualifying match, and then there'll be more of a test in the 1R.

I do wonder what the reason behind his WCs is, though. Must be some sort of management agency that is pushing him.

Russian money in Finnish challengers. Every year the same. Good that at least Tursunov and Kunitsyn got them and not some total no names like in the past.

bad draw for the Finns :( all the best ones in the same tough section with Juska and Janowicz...hopefully Timo can take out Juska :)

Laaksonen vs Paukku  should be interesting

Jarkko will play doubles with Paukku...I was hoping he would play with Heliövaara

btw, why is Harri not playing here?

The court ain't that fast, the balls are fluffing up quite a bit.

Kunitsyn didn't look that great while practising yesterday, Hrbaty was working really hard on the court. Could be a tight one.

Brunström/Rojer vs Kubot/Marach should be a good one, both teams have been impressive so far. Really like the intelligent play of Rojer, I wonder why he never did well in the singles?

Kunitsyn vs Phau was a great match  the 3rd set was the best set played this week...Kunitsyn must be odds-on to make the final here
Sarcasm?

I didn't find the match to be that captivating, to be honest. Could have something to do with the two players' styles: Phau hits hard, Kunitsyn anticipates well and pushes the ball back. It was glorious the few times both guys got the rally going at the same time but much too vast a majority of points were netted in routine shots in the first few strokes.

If you want to judge a match by its high point then yeah, those two plays Kunitsyn made to get the break at 4-4 40-40 in the 3rd left a nice aftertaste.

I'm was impressed by the way Kunitsyn handled himself when he lost the plot in the second set. Complete stone-faced calmness. Kept his nose down and won eventually, well done. His game lacks power and I can't see him becoming a fixture in the top 50 zone. That inability to flatten out his forehand and finish the midcourt sitters is going to cost him.

Jarkko got a routine win, Tursunov didn't look nearly as half-assed as I expected, Mannarino was horrid and will not win a single game today. Labadze was decent entertainment, though. The guy seems to treat the whole tennis pro scheme as one giant joke, like he is Nalbandian to the tenth power. His Kafelnikov-esque body shape makes the whole show even more hilarious. Wouldn't want to watch the complaining, bitchiness and other antics in every game but as a sidecourt sideshow it goes.

Jarkko-Koubek and Juska-Kubot are the two interesting matches today. Hope I can get to the arena in time to see them.

I'm sad that Sela lost :o Well, he didn't play so well, either.

Kamke was amazing yesterday  Probably all the others where watching Meffert - Nieminen, but I wanted to see this match.

He beat Minar 6-2, 6-2 ;) Was flawless play, I gotta say.

Stef needs the yellow shorts, hope it's a good match and at least a leftie will win that match.
