I love these USTA Challengers and their fields :worship:
Awesome to see Taylor on the list :), and also in the end I'm sure he'll just get a wild card and not need to use his PR.

Would love to go here, but 6 hour drive and just not really realistic for me to do

Welcome to the Order Of Play Post (O.O.P.) An O.O.P. is a document released by the a tennis tournament kind of like a schedule. It shows in the order matches are played, what courts they are on, and at what time or session. To view a O.O.P. please click below where it says "Attached Files" on the O.O.P. on the day you wish to view. Keep in mind that you will need the latest version of "Adobe Reader." No clue

Maybe it has something to do with the fact that Rimouski is lower in prize money; I'm not sure.

Somdev was in the final of $75k challanger at Nashville which is a higher prize money event.

The only explanation is that the Nashville final got over on Saturday & Champaign qualies start on Sunday. At least he deserved a wild card if special exempt could not be given due to rules.

Somdev is not getting any help from USTA. Anyway, he will continue to do things on his own & will be in top 125-150 soon. Then,he wll not need any wild cards .

Alright guys, another challenger for me this week. Just got back from qualies today. The tourney is played at the University of Illinois' indoor complex, and the courts are super fast. Somdev gave his best, but looked completely out of gas. Hats off to Lester Cook though, as he looked the best I've ever seen him in a routine win.

I was rather impressed by one of the WCs today by the name of Roy Kalmanovic. He's really undersized (perhaps even more than Smyczek), but somehow gets A LOT of pop on his serve, and has some nice pop on his shots. I'll be on the lookout for him in the future.

McClune played beautiful tennis, and really dominated Polansky in the 3rd set.

Niemeyer's still a bit of a prick, only now he's a noticeably older prick. He still gets on ballboys over little things, etc. He hung tough with the local favorite Ryan Rowe, and withstood his big serving to win the 2nd set tiebreak and prevail 7-5 in the 3rd.

I was very unimpressed by both the D'agord/Kryvonos match, as well as the Charroin/Frantzen match. These matches both utilized a lot of high topspin, and I think both Kryvonos and Frantzen are screwed on this surface with few aces and less offensive shots in their arsenals.

Luka Gregorc took high honors for me today. His serve was really booming (we're talking 20+ aces in a two set win), and he was playing absolutely beautiful tennis. Fleishman was angling his shots well, but there was absolutely nothing he could do with the way Gregorc was playing today (winners galore, hard and deep shots, etc.). I'm going to try to watch Gregorc again tomorrow, as this could be a big week for him if he continues at this level.

Will report more as I can. Cheers...:wavey:

Yves.

Didn't know Niemeyer was such a prick, really. He was extremely nice at Wimbledon :yeah:

My pleasure, mate. Niemeyer looks noticeably older than the last time I saw him, but still has really quick legs. He is really demanding from ballkids, making rude little comments every time something doesn't meet his expectations, and was whining from time to time with the chair umpire. He's no Clement or anything, but he's not the most pleasant court personality either. :wavey:

Navy75's championship prediction (on location) this week = Kevin Anderson. There are posters everywhere of this guy from when he played college tennis here, and he was like a rock star yesterday around the University of Illinois tennis community. I think his game, draw, and internal motivation this week pull him through to the championship. :worship:

University of Illinois sophomore Roy Kalmanovich was humbled by 13-year ATP veteran Ramon Delgado on Monday, losing in straight sets, 6-3, 6-4, in the second round of qualifying at the JSM Challenger at the Atkins Tennis Center in Urbana, Illinois. The loss means no players with Illinois ties will move on to the singles main draw.
“I think I came out and played pretty well,” Kalmanovich said. “But he’s just clearly better than I am. He’s been out here for so long, and just knows how to play. He knows how to win. It just shows that I’m a little inexperienced at the moment.”
While the Illinois contingent is now out of qualifying, the experience will pay off in the long run for University of Illinois Men’s Tennis Coach Brad Dancer.
“What we saw the last two days is what we’ll likely experience as a team this spring,” Dancer said. “We have a lot of good players, but they’re not quite ready to break through to this level quite yet. But they’re fighting well and competing well. The key is whether we can have one or two guys step up and win at the top for us.”
Dancer will have one more hope in the main draw, as freshman Dennis Nevolo prepares for his first round match with former Illini Kevin Anderson, the tournament’s 7th seed. That headlines a full slate of matches set for Tuesday, in what should be a thrilling day and night at the Atkins Tennis Center. Their match will start at approximately 6PM. Following that match, fans will get a chance to see two talented, and emotional stars, as Amer Delic takes on Sam Warburg. The former Illini National Champion has lost his last two matches against Warburg.
Also in action on Tuesday are top seed Vincent Spadea, and defending champion Jesse Levine. Qualifying wraps up tomorrow with four matches beginning at 10AM.
The doubles draw was also announced on Monday, with former Illini Rajeev Ram teaming with Bobby Reynolds to earn the #1 seed. Delic is entered with former college rival Prakash Amritraj, and Kevin Anderson will play with former college opponent Jesse Levine. The current U of I team will be represented by freshmen Dennis Nevolo and Ruan Roelofse.
Admission in to the $50,000 2008 JSM Challenger of Champaign-Urbana is free until Friday. Tickets for the quarterfinals and semifinals on Friday and Saturday will be $5 for general admission, and $3 for students. For Sunday’s finals, tickets will run $7 and $5. Tickets are available at the door, or by calling (217) 244-3318. More tournament information can be found at www.illinoischallenger.com.

Roy Kalmanovich on his match today: “I think I came out and played pretty well. But he’s just clearly better than I am. He’s been out here for so long, and just knows how to play. He knows how to win. It just shows that I’m a little inexperienced at the moment.”
On what he takes out of playing Ramon Delgado: “It’s awesome because I don’t usually get to see that kind of level. It shows me what I need to work on.”
Brad Dancer on Roy’s match: “I was disappointed today. I thought that he played better yesterday than today. I actually thought that he looked inexperienced today, and he is compared to Delgado. Roy had two poor service games, and then some of his tactics weren’t what we talked about before the match. He kept giving Delgado the same ball over and over again to his backhand. He could have attacked his forehand better.”

Ilia Bozoljac played really really well against Levine. I think with his skill and talent, he should at least be in top 100 and maybe top 50. He hits and serves very hard and quite consistent today. However I heard his only probley is that he doesn't play like this every match.

Sorry I haven't reported back more guys. I've had a bunch of other stuff going on, and haven't had a chance to get to my computer much. I made it out for the afternoon and evening sessions today...

Kevin Kim was just way too solid for Rajeev Ram (a former Illini player). Kim didn't hit many winners, but just put a lot of deep balls in play and let Ram destroy himself.

Ladies and gentlemen...Taylor Dent is officially back!!! Kendrick has been playing very well lately, and was talking about his confidence to a paper interviewing him before the match. The match was VERY high quality, and had no breaks of serve (and very few break points). Dent was consistently just a notch better, and played brilliantly in both breakers (save one DF in the 2nd set TB). Taylor Dent has been the nicest guy around the facility all week, and I'm thrilled to see him in this form.

Odesnik throws a few more temper tantrums then I'd like to see, and both he and Sweeting openly talked about how tired they both were during the match. At one point in the 2nd set, Odesnik said "I can't wait for this long season to be over," and Sweeting responded "tell me about it, I'm ready to go home for awhile." Both these guys obviously need some rest and relaxation, as the season has taken its toll on both of them.

If you blinked, you would have missed the Kevin Anderson match. His service games flew by, and the match was probably over in less than an hour. I'll stand by my early prediction that this is Kevin Anderson's title to lose. The surface really suits him, and he's playing at his home campus with the crowd 100% behind him.

As for doubles, I got to see the Battistone brothers play for the first time, and those two grip racquets are even weirder to behold in person than they are on TV. Both they and Bemelmans/Matwe seemed to be having a really good time out there, and they all even stayed and laughed around for a bit after the match (the Battistones won in straights). Bobby Reynolds is still as much of a high pitched whiner as ever, but he and Ram just got done beating Warburg/Widom in a match tiebreaker. A French doubles team was leading Sweeting/Kuznetsov 6-2, 2-2 when I left, and the American duo looked absolutely dreadful out there with lots of shank volleys, getting broken at love, etc. Who knows how it will finish though...

That's all I've got for now guys. Good luck to your favorite players for the rest of the week....:wavey:

I went to watch the tournament today, wanted to see Dent so badly about how his form is. After the match, one thing I can tell is that the match was pretty boring (Yet high quality). Those two guys got points because of their serve. I didnt see any point go over 8 rallies! I saw Dent played against Ferrero before at Thailand Open final where he won the title, I feel that his Serve and his volley is almost 100% back, however his ground stroke still has alot of flaw. Seriously today, without Dent big serve, Kendrick was the better player. Kendrick ground stroke was alot better than Dent. Dent had a couple of impressive shots today. With this form, and if he can get his groundstroke back, I definately think that Dent can crack back to top 50.

AFter watching all the matches today, Dent vs Anderson in the final would be a very great final match. One thing to note is that Dent is a very nice player. I went to look for him after the match in the locker room for autograph and photo. He was talking with his coach about the match and when he saw me, he called me in and stopped talking with his coach and took photo with my other five friends one by one as well! A very nice guy I would say :)

hehe no worries mate i check livescore.com which updates quickly and for the person who said niemayer is an asshole to the ballboys...he is i ballboyed to him in australia a couple of yrs ago and he's pretty agressive but he's no clement or mallisse. Koellerer is the worst to ballboy by a mile

Well played Kevin, from a breakdown in the 2nd set aswell, seems like nobody can stop him...
