USO final 4-do you think these are the best 4 players right now?

So the final 4 are Nadal, Federer, Djokovic and Murray.

Murray is not #4 yet in the rankings, but this result will certainly help his cause.

I'm not asking if you guys are fans of these 4, but regardless of what the rankings say, do you guys think the final 4 at this year's USO are the best 4 players on tour?

Do you think Murray is better than Ferrer, Davydenko and Roddick? Or not?

Sure those 4 are the best right now, no doubt about it.

i'm still trying to figure out how/why davydenko is ranked that high. but yes those are the four best players obviously.

Murray is the 4th best player in the rankings. It is official on Monday. He goes from 6th to 4th no matter what happens.

So yes, they are the best 4 players in the world without question.

If we aren't talking about rankings then I think Berrer, Vassalo Arguello, Vanek and Dabul are the 4 best players in the world right now.

oh OK thanks. I didn't know Murray will be #4.

As for some of the sarcastic answers here, whatever. I know sometimes some of us feel the rankings don't always reflect who the best players are. I was only wondering if people thought Murray was better than the other top 10 players not-named Nadal, Federer or Djokovic

Definitely the four best players of the moment. The US Open organizers couldn't have dreamed up a better scenario.

I still think we have the best 3 only and then Murray, unless Murray prove he can win a slam match versus any of the three.

That's a good point. These are the best 4 players in the world right now, but until Murray proves it against a top player in a slam he will remain a step below the big 3.

09-05-2008, 06:30 AM
I think both poll answers are sort of right. These are the four best players in the world, who else could you reasonably put there? Roddick? Davydenko? Nalabandian? Wawrinka? Ferrer? Murray, in my mind fits much better with the top three than any ot the other options.

Of course, Murray will need to win the tournament to make it a true 'big four', rather than a 'big three'.

Still, I think this was the best possible weekend result for all neutral fans, as there are four interesting and skilled players, and they have all (except Federer-Murray) had important matches against each other at some point in the season, and there will likely be a compelling storyline for the final no matter who advances. :yeah:

I hope it'll be an excellent cap to a pretty solid two weeks.

With Murray going to be ranked 4th on Monday I think the questions should be.

1) Can Murray pull away from the chasing pack and make No 4 his own?

2) Can Murray bridge the gap and make it a big 4 rather than big 3?

Having his own quarter will help and I think he will do well in the Masters cup so I think he answer to no 1 is yes and maybe is the answer to No 2.

Won't Murray be No. 4 in the world after this tournament?

#1 vs. #4 and #3 vs. #2 is a great matchup

dmit424
09-05-2008, 06:38 AM
Yes, they are the four best and I don't see a way around that.

Both poll answers say the same thing in the context of the question, anyways.

Yeah, and this is one of the advantages of the main favourites moving along each round- there look to be some potentially great matches coming up. Now if only the quality of tennis could be notched up a gear (or two). The ideal set-up is there, but the players need to raise their games to make the matches memorable.

This is Murray`s first GS SF, and because he had a lot of luck with the draw. A healthy Del Potro would have beaten him, or even a luckier Melzer or Llodra could have done.

I don't know why people keep saying that Murray can't win until Federer is around. He has beaten Federer handily a couple of times. Nadal has been his major problem but he has gotten back Novak too. I think Murray is inconsistent but certainly at the level of the other 3.

Probably yes. The tour is really getting weak, many Top 30 players are playing really bad. A proof of this is that Nadal, Federer and Djoko got to the Semis even though they are played way below their best.

I think Murray is more talented than Ferrer and Daydenko, and he is on the way up while Roddick has seen his best days. But I'm not convinced that he is already a better player than these folks. Nice to see hin reach his first SF (and make it to Sekiwake in the YT-rankings), but he would need to do this more often before one could speak of a "big 4".

Does Murray have the fourth best record of all the current players? No...Roddick as a grand slam champion has a more impressive CV, but Murray's stock is rising and he's a potential multiple grand-slam champion and at the moment the third/ fourth best payer in the world at least.
