Couldn't think about a better matchup on a hardcourt. The two best players, going at each other.

Djokovic in 4. Does Federer have what it takes to beat a hard court specialist, especially given he hasn't had a "big" win for some time? Novak was much closer than the score suggested in last years final and I think he's going to make it consecutive finals in NY.

Federer seems to be striking the ball cleaner than he was back in Melbourne and I'd say Djokovic has understandably dropped down a notch since that peak. If Federer can get the cross-court backhand working as smoothly as he did against Muller, I think he has a great chance of running the Serb ragged.

Of course, as Clay Death has taught us well, Djokovic has lethal finishing power off both wings so he's capable of beating anyone in the world on his day, but I think he's had his day for this season.

nanoman

Nole in as many sets as he wants, depending on his concentration.

Nole can hit his BH all day long, while Fed obviously can't. Fed will then get nervous. Overhit his forehand, doing senseless short BH slices, waiting to be killed.

But there was just a "tiny" difference... Guess which one?!

i think this is gonna be a long close encounter as they are both playing on a very similar level, the reason why the markets have given the edge to the swiss miss is simple because HE IS THE 4 TIME DEFENDING CHAMPION?? however, joker is playing hyper agressive tennis with hardly any fear of any of his opponents, i see joker taking this and hopefully in a 5 set marathon..

I see people still have belief in the old dog still.THE only contributing factor in feds favor @ this time is stamina. FEDERER just has to find a way to stay with NOVAK early on
if he is to stand any chance. EVEN if he loses the rallies regularly he MUST extend them as much as possible. This can be achieved b/c novak is not in AO form or freshness. I believe the match is on Novak's racquet,ONLY b/c fed has been garbage on HC all year long, reaching the SF,he already surpassed a lot of expectation.IMHO.

That is not what I gather from your posts. You see, giving a person sometimes a benefit of the doubt could be considered good characteristic. While constantly making accusations without any proof of their legitimacy is kind of called libel or slender(depends how you state it).

anyway, my point is that Novak if he is affected at all by this Bird Flu saga, will definitely think twice about any future actions to call for the trainer (whether genuine/legitimate or not). His outburst already reveals how much those accusations ate him up.

Surely you don't want him to make an apology at another post-match conference?

If Federer wins the tournament, he's had the better year, and it'd be pretty decisive too; 3 slam finals with a win. I know that's pretty amazing considering Federer's "terrible" year.

And of course minor losses to Fish, Blake, Roddick, Stepanek, and almost Ginepri. And who cares about the loss to Karlovic or Gilles Simon. Oh and he didn't win a singles medal at Olympics so that is not bad as he won the doubles, right? I almost forgot that he lost Wimbledon and got only 4 games off on Nadal (Djokovic won more in a set). dude are you high? The only reason Federer's season been great is because he avoided Djokovic at the French. Novak is leading Roger in the race so I don't know what you are going on about

Slam results. Since Australia, Federer has gone to the finals of both majors. Djokovic made one semi (albeit a RIDICULOUSLY easy draw, almost like the draws Agassi used to get at RG) and lost in the second round to Marat Safin on grass!!

Funny how you would bring up Federer's bad losses, when you didn't mention the fact that Djokovic has also suffered embarrassing defeats to Gilles Simon, Kevin Anderson, and Marat Safin on grass. If Djokovic has been better this year, it hasn't been by much, if at all. If Federer wins the Open, the pendulum clearly swings in Federer's favor.

If Fed wins the Open, he will have a healthy lead over Novak. However, Novak is leading in the race and has had a better year regardless of what you say until Federer wins the Open. And you discount the AO like it never happened. It was a Grand Slam dude. Del Potro has had the best results probably since Wimbledon. Is he better than Nadal or Novak? You conveniently discount the Australian Open. I like Fed. Don't get me wrong. But he won't win the open. I just can't see him having enough to win against Novak and Nadal. I'd be surprised if anyone but Nadal won it actually

go novak. i wanna see novak grind the pig in 5 scintillating sets in the final

fedders is done..he's played 3 'club players' in this mug draw of his. only 1 good player he has played - andreev, who doesn't have a backhand. how can anybody tell he is playing 'well'?

novak has played cilic, robredo and roddick, all playing good.

nadal has blitzed fish, and took on a red hot querrey who is top 15 in the future.

Djokovic had some close matches in the tournament and Nadal wouldn't be a cake for him in a final. Never underestimate the Spaniard, even when he doesn't play his best tennis. He didn't needed to so far.

If Djokovic beat Federer for example 3-0, then people would ask if it means if Boredo is better than Federer.

It will be interesting to see which one will be affected worse from the weather conditions. Federer did a good job taking off some pace from his shots which resulted in much lower number of UE's. It might work against Djokovic too. On the other hand if Djokovic manages to sustain his level like in those 2 first sets against Roddick, Federer won't have much chance. It would be good tactics for Roger to charge the net often cause Novak's passing shots aren't what they used to be.

Novak's passing shots have never been a particular strength

I hope the weather plays no part in the outcome, either way. I think Federer will win, but then I was sure he'd make the final at the Olympics :o

Nope, they was never his particular strenght but he had them, now he doesn't at all. He hardly make ones when opponent is charging the net these days. He was forced to go for lobs against Roddick who is not that hard to be passed at all due to his sometimes ridicolous aproach shots and short arm span.

i do agree that federer has had the easier path to the semis but that is not to say he didnt have quality players in his side of the draw...just that those "challengers" were playing really well to get that far.

Typical Nadal haters trolling around here. I love Novak but he simply has not beaten Nadal in best of 5 sets match, ever! Nadal is far too consistent for Novak to go up and down in his level of play and win. Let's not forget that Nadal beat Novak at Olympics too. Fed obviously won't beat Nadal here. Too bad

He did sound a little shaky in the interview, but it was probably just the excitement and relief. He saves the tears for the BIG matches. ;)

Djokovic probably had a sore throat again. Amazing he found the enormous mental strength to finish the match. He's clearly a great champion
