This year Federer and Nadal reached SF or better of all grand slams. In what other years has this happened?

I don't think anyone else has.

Next year Fish and Ginepri will meet in the finals of all 4 slams and everyone will forget about Nadal.

I'm not even a fan of Nadal, not that reality has anything to do with the content of your posts

I guess the starting point is to list the players who reached 4 subsequent GS semifinals. Here is the list since the beginning of the Open era:

Andre Agassi, F99-A00 (WFWW)
Boris Becker, W90-W91 (5 tournaments, FSWSF)
Jim Courier, U92-W93 (SWFF)
Novak Djokovic, F07-F08 (5 tournaments, SSFWS)
Roger Federer, W04-U08 (18 tournaments, WWSSWWWFWWWFWWSFF?)
Rod Laver, A69-U69 (WWWW)
Ivan Lendl, W83-U84 (6 tournaments, SFFWSF)
Ivan Lendl, U85-A88 (10 tournaments, WSWFWSWFWS)
John McEnroe, A83-U84 (SFWW)
Rafael Nadal, A08-U08 (SWW?)
Tony Roche, A69-U69 (SSSF)

Dominant players like Borg or Connors rarely played the Aussie Open in the late 70s/early 80s and therefore missed out on a complete semifinal sweep. But interestingly, also Pete Sampras never managed to put 4 consecutive semifinals together, and neither did Wilander or Edberg.

As for the original question, there have been one other case of 2 players reching all semis in a calender year: Rod Laver and Tony Roche in 1969

[John McEnroe and Ivan Lendl reached all 4 semis from the December 83 Aussie Open to the US Open 84; with today's Aussie Open timing this would also have made for a full calendar year]

Damn you're right, the Aussie Open were played in December in 83/84 and McEnroe and Lendl therefore reached the semis from A83-U84.

Take 84 out then.

He isn't the only who has gotten an easy draw. You can only beat who is in front of you.
