Well played Feña, except for that TB on 3rd set, everything was good. Nice match :) even lots of backhand winners

That slice backhand return winner at the end

A shame Jarkko slipped and fell... I felt he was starting to gain some momentum, even if he had just been broken.

yeah  keep trying to take the credit away from Gonzo, anyone who saw the match knows Gonzo was the best player in this match  Jarko slipped and fell and had a scratch on his elbow, he doesn't have cancer

The fall... don't you think? I thought he had broken his arm or something.

The fall... don't you think? I thought he had broken his arm or something.Oh, yeah, it looked very painful for sure, I mean i've hit my elbow on a desk and it hurts for 10 min sometimes . They showed it on replay here after the match was over so I dunno how it affected his play, but he played a really great third set TB so that's unfortunate if it did affect him.yeah  keep trying to take the credit away from Gonzo, anyone who saw the match knows Gonzo was the best player in this match  Jarko slipped and fell and had a scratch on his elbow, he doesn't have cancer :lol:Um, wow... your guy won, do you have to be so bitter? I'm not even a Nieminen fan particularly but it's hard not to comment when you see a guy fall like that on his dominant arm, my goodness

It only qualifies as a trainwreck if it happened after drinking his sixth voddy tonny and telling his wife he never loved her in the middle of a bridge game.

Amazing to think this is Gonzalez's first time in the second week of the US Open since his QF run back in 2002.

Gonzo's backhand was hell decently and sometimes as killer as his forehand. It brought back memories in my mind of that inspired and crazy boy of 2002. I still remember that year when he kicked roddick's ass in cincinnati in a match with two kids hitting the ball unconsciously. A few weeks later gonzo lost in usopen quarterfinals in a fifth set tie break.

Tough fall for Nieminen. Gonzo probably had the match anyway but that fall looked pretty bad.

i wouldn't call a double tiebreak an ass kicking but the shot making in that match was incredible (from both)

tough battle out there. Jarkko's second serve still his Achilles heel. the fall looked painful.

About the fall...I feel the match had turned at that point. Jarkko had two sitter smashs at 0-1 15-30 on Gonzo's serve. First one struck the tape and Gonzalez got another short lob back, which Nieminen then promptly hit two metres out.

Until that point, Nieminen had all the momentum in that 4th set. He had just taken the tiebreak thanks to four volley winners and increasingly erratic groundstrokes by Gonzalez, the latter of which continued well into the fourth set. After the botched smash, Gonzo hit (if I remember correctly) an ace and an unreturnable serve to hold. The next service game by Nieminen was an atrocity with 3-4 easy unforced errors and the match was pretty much over by then. The fall came only later and just accelerated the (at that point almost) inevitable outcome.
