Ok so Thiago is from Brazil and the guy is asking him question blah blah blah knowing the guy is getting his ass walked up in down against Roger. Then at the end of the interview, the guy tells Thiago "Mucho Gracias". MUCHO FUCKING GRACIAS...maybe I'm out of it but Brazil=spanish since when?

It should have been "muito obrigado" if the interviewer is a guy, and "muito obrigada" if it was a female interviewer. Not that Thiago didn't understand it, but that is :o.

The transitional champ knows his game is outdated. he will have to come up with all his vile guile to pull off an upset.

An ignorant American TV presenter? Shocking.

Isn't it "muchas gracias" anyways?

no it isn't. The language spoken in Brazil is Portuguese. You could have read the thread, couldn't you?

Brazilians tend to be really annoyed by foreigners thinking we speak Spanish. Thiago is probably used to that, though.

And I think Thiago is kind of, um, interesting.:p Anyway, I like his style, he's a fighter, I hope he finally starts showing some consistency.

vile guile. I like it.

Good effort from Thiago and the guy looked like he had an absolute blast out there. Not so much sad that he lost but sad that it had to come to an end :)

Clearly a moment he'll remember for a long time.

Alves speaks Spanish and English so I don't see the big deal?

Then why not simply say "thank you"? Obviously whoever said thank you in Spanish was assuming his native language was Spanish...

Or maybe the announcer just thought it'd be nice to say "thank you" in another language. It's really not that big a deal. It's not like the time when someone said that Djokovic was Croatian while presenting him with a trophy.

I hope the OP will be kind enough to use his name "Thiago Alves" instead of "the guy Roger will be playing" in the thread title.

I don't think it's a big deal, certainly not as big a faux pas as what happened to Nole, but come on, it was a faux pas. If the guy didn't know how to say "thank you" in Portuguese, he should have said it in English, it's very simple.
