The only way for Nalbandian to win the US Open is to beat Joey Chestnut

From the bits I saw, Nalby looked great. If he can maintain his form, I can see him running over Rafa again. Even more so given that Nadal seemingly has more problems with his feet.

Nothing to say about this match, David looked good but Daniel was feeding him short balls all the time.

Maybe Nalbandian didn't send his "evil" twin for this tournament afterall! Good win for David!

It really is a question of making it past the shit players. If he does I'm sure he'll up his game for Blake and Nadal. Golubev and Monfils are his biggest threats.

Yeah, nothing too surprising here. Dave eats these powderpuff servers alive and today was no exception. He did play some exceptional tennis especially early in the match but with all due respect to his opponent for the day, he wasn't exactly pushed to bring the best stuff. Daniel wasn't particularly impressive when defending (he was pushed to back foot all the time) and missed a ton of running backhands.

It reminds me of the Nalby-Berlocq RG match from a few months ago. I won't expect the guy to flame out again as he did against Chardy but predicting a long run from this match is a bit premature.

Press conference after the match. Nalby spreading his charm

THE MODERATOR: Questions, please.

Q. You had a great fall last year. Some players, I'm wondering if you think they play better in the beginning of the year or end of the year?

DAVID NALBANDIAN: Who?

Q. Just players in general. Are they better at spacing out how they play over the entire year or do you think...

DAVID NALBANDIAN: No, it just depends. You never know. Sometimes you think you're great in the beginning, and you didn't get the best results in the year. They come in later.

Depends the surface, depends whether you like to play more. You never know.

Q. Some players, they win more titles in the first half and some in the second half. Do you think of certain players as being good starters and others as good finishers?

DAVID NALBANDIAN: No. Depends.

Q. You didn't feel that way last fall?

DAVID NALBANDIAN: No.

Nalbandian - US open champion 08??

That is his M.O. He takes the whole season off, then shows up at the end for a few big wins in order to retain his ranking... And I love him for it! Dave!

Beating Daniel is a great indicator of him winning the US Open, yes.
