USO Ferrero OUT, Golubev IN, Youzhny OUT, Cipolla IN

Very frustrating year for JCF. Since Rome he's played only three matches retiring from two of them. This will be the first slam he's missed since AO 2002. This injury is turning out to be more serious than any of his 2004 problems.

Good luck to Golubev though, the newly adopted Kazakh who can be entertaining to watch.

Beating clay-monster has cost him too much ;)

It's curious that he and Federer are the only players who has beaten Nadal (since Nadal is a top player) both on clay & HC

It was not beating Nadal, it was JCF's thanking God after the match :o I seriously believe he overdid

Is this Golubev a real Kazakh or one of those they buy in the weekend market?

Does anybody know what's the reason for the withdrawal? Is it the same abdoctor injury again?

Thanking God? He threw a kiss to his mother in heaven. What's wrong with that?

Youzhny's place would be a dream spot for any lucky loser, a potential third round chance.

His coach is saying that Misha most probably won't be able to play today. As of yesterday he had fever of 39 C for three days in a row. Today in the morning he was supposed to see a doctor, so it will be decided right before the match if he will play or not, but it seems he won't, is not feeling well at all.

«Миша играть, скорее всего, не будет. У него три дня держится температура 39. Он болен. Завтра утром, когда встанет, нужно будет показаться врачу. Поэтому завтра перед матчем будет решаться, будет он играть или нет, но, скорее всего, не будет. Представляете, что такое три дня подряд 39 температура», – цитирует Бориса Собкина «Радио Спорт».http://www.sports.ru/tennis/5570687.html

Oh no! That's unbelievable. I watched Youzhny practice so much last week during qualifying week. But I didn't see him practice at all since Friday. He was nowhere to be found on Sunday - which was a sign because he always hits a ton of balls when he is healthy. :( I guess it's a good thing I didn't get a ticket for today, I would have been so disappointed.

Not a great year for him

Leo

Oh, that must be why Youzhny wasn't scheduled for Monday, right? The rest of his draw played yesterday except for him/Hernych and Lapentti/Lu. Which means Misha probably petitioned to play a day later, yes?? But they couldn't wait another day and push him back to Wednesday, they'd be so far behind their section of the draw.

How odd that I got to watch both my favorites, Youzhny and Ferrero, practice at the US Open and look healthy and in good spirits. But they each had to withdraw last minute and be replaced by lucky losers. Ferrero's withdrawal was much more predictable.

And he won his first 8 matches of the year until he got steamrolled until Tsonga. Things changed after that. He needs to revive his game indoors this fall.

Yeah me too, sucks to be healthy in every other way, then catch some unfortunate germ. Hope he didn't spread that to anyone else. Fluids, fluids, fluids for that fever.

Lol, Evans still got crushed.

Ferrero did have his left shoulder taped on Friday when he practiced against Feli Lopez (who is also out of the tournament). It's a shame. I want him to come back in 2009 and have a really fantastic year.

He was there on Friday. Misha practiced with Kiefer in the morning. This is terrible news, all my favs are either out by the first round or out sick.
