I went to qualies on Thursday but the matches were hugely uninteresting so I won't bother with a report :o

I'm not gonna be able to upload pics until I get back next week (apologies for the misleading title) but I assure you there will be lots.

Practice day was interesting today, not that easy to tell who's playing well but it's interesting to see players interacting with fans.

- Rafa and Federer's practices are amusing, both of them look annoyed with their games. I wouldn't say either of them are the most entertaining in terms of personalities to watch practice, but they both have a lot of fangirls here who applaud every winner they hit

- Djokovic is a lot more fun to watch, him and his coach play little games and involve the crowd quite a lot. I'm still neutral towards him and realise why people don't like him, but I think underneath the arrogance he's a funny and good guy who just likes to show off a little bit

- Safin really went up in my estimation today. He's usually been a bit of an ass when I've watched him previously, but today he was in one of his best ever moods. After practice today, he got swamped by fans and signed for a long time. Then he headed off but just before he got in the exit a lady asked for a photo with her daughter who was in a wheelchair. Safin waited patiently while they set up the picture, and by that time another load of fans surrounded him and he stayed quite a lot longer. It makes a change when he's better off the court than on, his forehand is looking as horrible as ever :help:

- Del Potro is hitting the ball ridiculously hard. I swear, I watched him at Wimbledon and since then he must've added at least 5mph to every single shot. He's creaming the ball. I was sceptical because he's mainly only won MM tourneys, but he did look damn good.

- Davydenko is about as popular as a hot drink at the USO. If there's a tiny crowd of about 2 or 3 people watching a practice court, you can almost be sure it's him :o

- Tsonga doesn't look in the best of shape, don't expect him to go far (watch him romp to title now :sport: ).

- Simon was ripping Gasquet a fat one today. Gasquet should probably realise it's possible to practice with someone who isn't from the same country as him (he was with Benneteau later on as well).

- Bolelli always manages to impress me in practice. He was hitting the ball beautifully. I was going to predict a good run but I see he's playing Stan who also looks good, tough match to call imo.

- Andreev had a hugely productive day today, sitting in the corner of a court on his laptop while girlfriend Maria Kirilenko produced a truly dire display :tape:

- Tursunov puzzles me. He's as miserable as hell on court. Then he comes off the court and still looks miserable but is actually very friendly and funny.

- Vinnie Ice had the most amazing outfit on today. I wish I could post my pictures now  he had an American flag bandana, but his t-shirt was just :hearts: it had a picture, I think it was supposed to be him with "hip hop" written above. He looked like an incredible mess. What a guy.

- Steve Darcis either practiced about 84 times today or has an identical lookalike

- Competition for worst shot of the week is between Djokovic's volleys, Safin's forehand, Mirnyi's forehand or Moya's backhand.

I don't really like the men's schedule for tomorrow. I'll go to Rafa's match of course, and Murray. But both should hopefully be one-sided. I think Wawrinka-Bolelli will be the best match of the day. Hernandez-Bellucci is a must of course. Other than that, there isn't that much. Lopez-Melzer could be funny, it could be headcase heaven :inlove: Vanek-Bohli might possibly be the worst grand slam match ever.

Thanks for the (entertaining) report Ads...I, myself, am targeting the US Open next year, so if you have any other info you wish to share, I'd be keen to read it. :D

In the many times I have seen Gasquet play, I have NEVER seen him practice against anyone non-French...as you say, time for him to branch out a little. :tape: As for Tursunov...maybe he was just having a bad day? :o Yeah, Delpo looks good for a strong US Open run...played very high standard over last month, even if he was largely playing mugs. Not getting my hopes up about Bolelli, even if he was playing to a good standard in practice...something is missing when he plays the matches. And Vinnay...what can one say? :rocker2: I wonder if he has as many "original" outfits as Clement has different coloured bandanas? :spit:

Have a good time at the tennis today. :yeah:

Day 1 report.........

- Expected struggle for Rafa. Watched him practice this morning and he was poor again. Then I watched the first set and felt like banging my head against a brick wall. Back to his old ways. But luckily he's got a nice draw for the next couple of rounds and can hopefully play his way into form.

- Phenomenal stuff from the King, thrilling the late night crowd on Court 4. I like Bellucci as well, it was entertaining. Heroic effort in the 2nd from the King, saved 3 set points - on the first, Bellucci went mad, thought he'd cracked a forehand winner but it got called out about 4 minutes after he hit it. On the third, they had a great cat and mouse rally, and King played a beautiful sliced angled backhand. Also fought back from 4-1 down in the tie break. He got frustrated in the 3rd, some horrible line calls. At one point, he missed a shot and turned around as if he was about to throw his racquet against the backboard. But there was a line judge right there who crapped himself and ran out the way  King went over and gave him a hug afterwards :worship: he also produced a stunning passing shot where he spun about 270 degrees before he hit it and ended up winning the point. Sadly, I was surrounded by Brazilian's and was the only one cheering for King. His brilliance hasn't been noted in America yet.

- Odesnik is a hell of a fighter :hatoff: Superb body language even when he's losing. Fognini kind of blew the 5th, he was up a break and played a horror game, double faulting to lose his break. Kind of folded after that.

- Karanusic played a smart match today. Pretty much just pushed the ball to a decent length. Sweeting is unbelievably flashy, absolutely no consistency.

- Soderling was as brainless as ever :retard: I only watched from a distance, but it seems that his line of thinking is "if I'm losing, I'll try and hit the ball harder". Surprisingly loss after looking good in practice.

- Watched the first set of Wawrinka-Bolelli, enjoyable set. Didn't expect it to be so easy for Stan. I don't actually think there is that much in their games. The main difference is Simone's complete inability to hit a decent return. He doesn't make enough, and when he does they're short and without pace. The set had some very nice rallies, one of the better ones I watched today.

- Nice to see Darcis' excessive practice paid off!

- Calleri could do with a new coach in my opinion. Ridiculous coaching, Calleri was practicing his backhand and was just hitting every ball as hard as he could. He'd make about 1 in 4. When he did, his coach drooled and applauded, when he missed he did nothing :help:

- Disappointing lack of fight from Lucho today, he went down pretty easily. Kohli looked in good form though.

- Gasquet clearly listened to my advice about not practicing with Frenchies and had a hit with Tsonga

- Davydenko's huge popularity showed once again, as he walked past the autograph hunters without being bothered for one today :tape:

- I'm lacking in sightings of Berdych and Tipsy  haven't seen either yet, and Berdych usually watches Safarova but wasn't there today.

- Andreev had another enjoyable afternoon watching Kirilenko play woefully.

Day 2 report......

- If someone had told me on Sunday that my favourite match so far would be Cipolla-Hernych I'd have laughed in their face. But it was awesome stuff. I got there for the start of the 5th, I became an instant fan of Flavio's "killer slice" backhand. The match had already been going on over 3 hours, and it was pretty tough conditions but Cipolla was fighting like hell, he doesn't have much power but he battles so hard. He had a break in the 5th, but gave it back. Hernych went 4-3 up and had a break point to lead 5-3 and thought he'd won it when Cipolla hit a forehand probably a foot long. But it was called in and Cipolla won the point. Hernych went mad (understandably) and I don't think his mood was helped when a loud American shouts "bad luck Jan, the ball was miles out" he did well to take it to a tie break, and had a mini-break advantage but Cipolla produced a stunning running lob to get it back after a long rally, and it broke Hernych. Even still, Hernych had 4 easy volleys/smashes at 4-6 in the tie break but didn't put them away and Cipolla kept getting the back before hitting a backhand winner down the line. Cipolla went mad, Hernych fell to the floor in dismay. Amazing stuff, great match and an amazing effort from Flavio :worship:

- Alves vs. Capdeville was another belter. This Alves is like roadrunner, he must've run close to a marathon today. Capdeville was hitting his forehand well and dominating rallies, but Alves doesn't give up on any ball. His groundies are very typically clay courter in style, but he has the heart of a lion. Amazing comeback. First set was tight, then came back for the 4th. Full of drama, electric atmosphere and both players beginning to cramp. Capdeville went first, double faulting and then collapsing to the floor - unfortunately he had treatment on it a few games earlier and although he tried to claim it was a different injury the referee wasn't having any of it, he bravely battled through to a tie break but lost it, he could barely move. I thought he'd get bagelled in the 5th or retire so I went off to watch my favourite WTA player :o (I hear Alves also cramped in the 5th but came from 2-4 down). Unfortunate he has to play Federer now, I'd have liked to have seen him play a lesser player and have a chance.

- Chardy could be a hell of a player if he had a bit more patience. I question whether the word 'rally' is in his vocabulary. Almost every shot was either a winner or an error. He still had too much for Gil, the serve being the big difference. I quite like Gil's game, but I don't see him reaching the higher echelons of the rankings anytime soon - and why he needs to wear a hairband with his short hair I'm not quite sure

- I didn't actually see any of his match, but I saw Verdasco leave the court at the end and he was incredible with fans again. He had a group of about 15 fangirls, he went over and gave all of them kisses :spit: then signed for ages, took loads of photos, and gave away wristbands, towels, anything. Good lad.

- Another substandard practice session from Rafa. He looks totally bereft of confidence, it's puzzling considering how well he's done recently. He's having lots of little conferences with Uncle Toni during practice, much more than usual.

- Jeez, the Chileans are crazy :haha: Gonzalez was getting the most ridiculously good support, probably better than anyone else. Usually I'd have a go at him for not acknowledging the fans much, but all hell would've broken loose, when he left the court they needed about 6 guys to take him back to the locker room, he got swamped by about 150 Chileans :scared: they do create a good atmosphere though, I'll give them that - also the Brazilian's :yeah:

- Paulo :silly: he was in surprisingly good spirits while practicing this morning, then turned into a big grump when he started his match. Was very lucky to win the 2nd, if he'd have lost it there was no way he was coming back. Groundies fell into place after that though.

- Only saw the final set tie break, but :hatoff: to Reynolds for the comeback, he looked down and out in the 4th.

- Monfils' coach must be reading MTF, he kept telling him not to be passive and take control of the point. Gael was fun to watch, his coach isn't very good but Gael would fist pump or shout "allez" whenever he won a point, even if it came from a woeful error

- Recouderc is atrocious. First time I've seen him play, and I saw him get his bagel. Pisspoor. There's not that many players I dislike, but Muller is one of them. Arsehole. I hope Haas thumps him.

In the many times I have seen Gasquet play, I have NEVER seen him practice against anyone non-French...I've got pics of him practicing with both Isner and Murray from IW this year (and with murray also in 2007), so he must practice with non-Frenchies at least once in a while :p

Cipolla-Hernych was good, I was there at a different time than you, but I agree :worship: At least when I was there, the crowd was really getting behind Cipolla too which was nice :D

Alves-Capdeville :hearts: Drama and crazy country cheering. What more could you want in a match?

btw, has it been mentioned that the line judges at every match on every court at the USO are pretty much atrocious? Even mild-mannered players are starting to go nuts about the calls. They're just really really really bad. :tape:

I've read many tournament reports (I like them :) ) and seen pictures that people have uploaded, so I know that Gasquet has been seen practicing with Murray, Roddick, Karlovic, and Ginepri. Even if it's not too common for him, he has branched out before.

The funny thing is that his coach Frederic Fontang was the opposite as a player, a powerless grinder. They have been working together for a very long time thus imagine the result if Chardy was coached by Leconte for instance. :D

- Simon was ripping Gasquet a fat one today. Gasquet should probably realise it's possible to practice with someone who isn't from the same country as him (he was with Benneteau later on as well).
Gasquet's english sucks, which he admits. So I guess he's just making his life simpler by practicing with other French guys

Actually, Gasquet and his new coach (Guillaume Peyre) try to give more aggressiveness to his game as he used to do before the Deblicker period. As of now he lacks a gameplan as he was back in 2003-2004.

I SHOULD have stayed and maybe I would have a towel or wristband, given the fact that I spoke to him post practicing that morning and wished him good luck and he acknowledged and said thanks, took pics of him , to pics of him with a girl I met randomly and when he leaned in to take a pic with me I froooze and said its okay, and retook the pic for the girl cause she wanted a better one...I AM A DUMB ASS......

Day 3 report.......

- Levine vs. Guccione :retard: I could only manage a set before Guccione's game made me want to go to the top and throw myself off the top of Arthur Ashe stadium. Stupid tactics from Levine, Gooch hits his backhand as well as Stevie Wonder but for some reason Levine kept playing to his forehand. Saved 2 set points at 4-5, one of them a sensational get after Guccione got an almost dead net cord. Then in the tie break he was up a mini break 3 times and gifted them back every time with unforced errors. Seems totally incapable of stringing 2 good points together. Then a horrible volley to lose the set, and pretty much the match. I went back for the 4th set tie break, Guccione to his credit came up with a great volley to clinch the match.

- Cilic was doing his best to choke in typical 'Croatian in a GS' fashion, but Benneteau blew all the momentum at the start of the 5th. Serving to stay in the match at 2-5, Benneteau lost the first point and then inexplicably took an injury timeout having shown no problems before. Very poor. I'm glad he lost after that

- Good stuff from Big Vic Hanescu today, I've watched so many brainless performances this week but he was the opposite, very nice point construction. Should have wrapped it up in 3, but a nice performance nevertheless :yeah:

- For all his flaws, sexy Step certainly knows how to entertain a crowd. He makes even a 1st round straight sets stroll against Starace fun to watch. Some incredible dive volleys the highlight, and his general dancing around the court. Also comes across surprisingly well with fans.

- Schwank was absolutely steaming after his loss, he blew that 4th set big time. So many chances. After he netted to lose the match, he absolutely destroyed his racquet (one of the all time great racquet smashes) and just left it in the middle of the court. Then he left the court absolutely seething :scared:

- Maxi Gonzalez and Monaco were playing their usual tennis football with their coaches. Some little American kid about 5 years old runs onto the court (awful security :o ) and goes "are you guys tennis players?". Maxi says "yes", so the kid goes "so why are you playing soccer?". Maxi responds with "because I'm better at it than I am at tennis"

- Out of interest....JMac was hitting with a kid who looked no older than 10 on the practice courts, this kid was unreal and schooling JMac. Roddick was on a court nearby and afterwards went over to JMac, I think he was taking the piss :rolls: anyway there were some cameras there, I don't suppose they showed it on tv and anyone knows who this kid is? :worship:

I also saw the boy hitting with John McEnroe on the practice courts. It's Ryan Harrison's little brother.

Ryan Harrison is the junior guy who people have said will be better than Andy Roddick. He's still kinda short though, if you ask me. But he's about 15 or 16 years old, so he'll grow. And his younger brother is a spitting image - just miniature size.

So watch out for the Harrison brothers in the future.

Day 6 Report.......

- Great fight from Muzza. It was searing out there. How he lost the first set I'm not sure, couldn't have blown more chances. Melzer must've hit 7 drop shots and lost every point, then in the tie break made 2/2. Expected muscles celebration from Muzza, I'm more impressed with a Scotsman's ability to cope with that heat for 4 hours :o. Still to negative in rallies for my liking, he was relying on Melzer's errors too much. Saw a little bit of Wawrinka-Cipolla and Stan wasn't playing that well either, should be a close match tomorrow.

- Watched the 5th of Del Potro vs. Simon. Really thought Gilles was going to win, Del Potro isn't exactly known for his fitness and looked like his legs were going a little bit. Simon didn't really do enough though, he was pushing even more than usual and Del Potro was absolutely spanking his forehand. Good effort to come through, helped by the large number of Argies in the crowd, he was getting great support.

- Also watched the end of Nishikori vs. Ferrer, amazing atmosphere. Ferrer was chasing absolutely everything down, even full blooded shots on the line by Nishikori were coming back. Had a slight choke but a very impressive performance mentally and physically. Looked flat out at the end, went over to his corner as if he'd just won a slam  then in his on-court interview I think he was too tired even to think.

Those were the only 3 ATP matches I saw, apologies for the uninteresting read :p

Agustin Calleri - http://picasaweb.google.com/adeegee84/AgustinCalleriUSOpenPracticeMonday#

- Calleri could do with a new coach in my opinion. Ridiculous coaching, Calleri was practicing his backhand and was just hitting every ball as hard as he could. He'd make about 1 in 4. When he did, his coach drooled and applauded, when he missed he did nothing :help:

 Are you sure it was Calleri the one you were watching?
