Monfils does look fitter - he's bounding around now. But Nole ought to win this now.

It's crappy for them no matter what now. But I do think it would be better to play tonight rather than play two tomorrow, especially since this probably won't be an easy match. Then the winner gets to play Li in front of the home crowd. I wonder if they'd put them on early in the day or still wait until 4 pm to begin play if they do have to play tomorrow?

You people need to believe! I know I haven't watched the match and from what I have read he was really tired in the end. But the most important is what's going on on his mind, the mind controls the body remember? He wants this badly and he will do whatever it takes to get it, today's match was the proof.

Also, no matter how strong Nadal is mentally, he will still be a bit :scared:, he respects Nole a lot, specially on hard courts.

I honestely believe that Nole has a bigger chance of winning Rafa tomorrow than he would have if he had to play Blake or Gonzo... Because he will put his best on court and he wouldnt do that if he had to play another person..

I'm so fucking glad he won. All of the commentators were waiting for a Federer-Nadal final because of the stakes and blah blah blah. Federer is out and I hope Novak disposes of Nadal in a convincing fashion. Novak needs to reestablish himself as the next great contender for No. 1.

I never thought we'd get a Fed-Rafa final here TBH. But it was Rafa I though wouldn't get there! Poor Roger - this decline is verging on humiliation. (But please let Nole land in his half at the USO - the law of averages says he surely must.)

I wish it's a Nole dream again today. Two days ago it was Murray (I was crying in that dream because in that dream he passed away ). Not a good dream at all

I have never doubt Nole in his determination. It's his body that I don't have enough faith :o

http://www.novosti.rs/code/navigate.php?Id=154&status=jedna&vest=126443&datum=2008-08-14
NOLE:

You're still in singles competition. Now you reached the QF, level of tennis is great and Nadal and Federer are also approaching the final rounds. Does that mean you're not as interested in US Open?

- Every player dreams of winning an Olympic medal. I said it hundred times and I'll say it again - my all time dream is to win a medal, to be the Olympic champion. It's everyone's goal, you know - "one world, one dream". Personally, I'd give 4 GS titles for an Olympic gold, said Novak after his victory over Youzhny.

Novak has found a new hobby. He's collecting pins in the Olympic Village.

- Yeah, that's my new hobby. It's going very slow for now. My commitments don't allow me to do it faster. I have 50 now, but I want more. I'll do it for the rest of my life cos these are my first Games and who knows whether I'll ever again be in the Olympic village.

1) First of all, it's Nole we are talking about.
2) He can beat anyone, anytime, anyplace. ;)
3) He is the best HC player on tour right now.
4) He is playing Nadal tomorrow, which means he wont underestimate his oponent. I know he is tired, but in these conditions, he would be a lot more likely to lose if he had to play someone else, because he wouldn't give his best from the start, get nervous and lose. So, he will appear on court knowing that he is playing a fresher player and the future #1. He will know what to do.
5) No matter how strong Nadal is mentally, I do believe that he can be a bit  right now, because he does respect Nole a lot, specially on HC.
6) The motivation thing, he wants to give Serbia the medal and so he will give his very best until the end, fight with every strength he has left.
7) Finally, I will do whatever I can to watch him. ;)

That's it. I can be wrong, but I really feel he will beat Nadal again tomorrow.

Kitinov is poisonous.

Linda's harmless but I find self-importance irritating.
And such consistency of output has got to be the last refuge of the unimaginative.

And I know you can't stand him but everything I have read about Rafa suggests he deserves better fans than some of those who speak in his name.

No question that Rafa deserves better fans :)

Anyway - I have been off searching photos  They are in the process of being uploaded to the Photos Thread - in the meantime - here is Nole's interview after his match with Youhny- not sure it has been posted anywhere before here.
http://greattennisphotos.blogspot.com/2008/08/novak-djokovic-beijing-13-august.html
Q. How did you think you played today?
NOVAK DJOKOVIC: I started slow. And I think the reason was my late finish last night in doubles. I think I was one of the last players. Our match was really late, I think one of the last matches that finished. I went to bed around 3:30 in the morning. So I was quite tired to start a match. But then I managed to stay.
It was very important to win the first set. So after, I really served well and put a lot of pressure on him.

Q. Are you reasonably satisfied with the way you're playing up to now? Also, are you getting more and more used to the heat and humidity?
NOVAK DJOKOVIC: Yes, I am. Conditions are extreme. We said it on the start. But it's all the same for everybody. I've been playing pretty good tennis so far. I just have some things I need to work on, of course. Not really hundred percent satisfied.
But I've played the last two matches as much as I needed to play. Serve is going great, which is an encouraging fact for upcoming matches. As soon as my serve is on a high percentage and a high level of performance, then everything else is going smooth.
So it gives me a lot of confidence, and motivation is here, there's no doubt. You know, another couple of matches, dream come true. But I'm going step by step.

Q. Have you got into the business of pin collecting at the Olympics and swapping? If so, who have you been doing it with?
NOVAK DJOKOVIC: I didn't take it now with me. But it's a nice question, yes. That's one of my hobbies here, pin collecting. I've seen a lot of athletes doing that. I've collected more than probably 50. I'm going slowly (laughter). I really plan to collect more.
Yeah, I mean, this is something that I'm going to have till the end of my life. I don't know if I'm going to be able to play an Olympics another time. Who knows what's gonna happen.

Q. You are in the last eight as well as Rafael. I think maybe Federer might be in the last eight. The first three seeds are in the last eight. It's quite different from the last Olympic Games. What happened? Do you not care about the US Open any more?
NOVAK DJOKOVIC: What was the last thing you asked?

Q. I'm thinking whether you not think about the US Open. You just try so hard at the Olympics. I wonder why.
NOVAK DJOKOVIC: Well, yeah, Olympics is very important to all of us. Obviously you can see that by the performance we're having. You know, in my case, I've said that winning a medal on the Olympics for me would mean like winning a Grand Slam even more.
So I'm really trying hard to stay in focus. It's a very hard schedule. Okay, I'm not any more in the doubles, so I'm gonna have a bit easier schedule. I'm going to focus on my singles. I'm in the quarterfinals, playing well so far.
So it's not that I'm not thinking about US Open. US Open is coming up and it's a very important event for all of us. But right now, we are living up for the moment and trying to focus for Olympics, which is our priority goal.

Q. You mentioned the doubles, which you don't normally play. Was it the attraction of a medal that got you to play doubles here?
NOVAK DJOKOVIC: Yes, that was one of the reasons. I wanted to have more options to win a medal. I knew that the schedule is going to be tight for me - but not just for me. All the top players, as you can see, are playing doubles. As I said, you have more options to win the medal. If something happens in the singles, then you have doubles left.
I really wanted to go far in the doubles, even though I'm not playing doubles so much. I'm still unexperienced (sic) in that matter. It was unfortunate to finish in the first round.

Morning all :wavey:

Well done :bounce: the US women gymnasts for stopping China - they're becoming relentless.

Let's hope we can all get live coverage today. Heavy showers, 30C and 83% humidity today, so it could be worse but still believe Rafa starts favourite. Hope Nole slept well and that I have underestimated his powers of recovery.

Mmmm, what a great day of tennis will this be for me. First JJ vs Safina and then Novak and Nadal :D
I'm pretty positive about both matches. Ajde :bounce:
Btw Kitinov is by far the worst poster ever, real nutcase. He sent me some nice posts in Serbian :fiery: Linda is annoying but harmless and Glenn is the least respectful person here

So Serbia all the way today please.

Morning - enjoyed a lie-in this morning :)

Natasha - welcome back - funnily enough I was thinking about you yesterday, and wondering where you were. Glad you're OK.

Jess - of course you can celebrate - and congrats to the US girls :bigclap:

Herdwick - I actually prefer Jelena too - maybe it's since that time she won the Wimby doubles with Jamie Murray?

I have TV on now, and our commentators are saying conditions in Beijing are good today, with only 36% humidiity :)

Oh - and Misha (Manon) is enjoying his holiday and says hi to all :wavey:

Hi Raquel - I assume the usual eurovisionsports one will be doing it http://www.eurovisionsports.tv/olympics/ Channel 9. Herdwick and I will be lucky enough to have it live on BBC today because it's semi-finals. Though there do seem to be some issues with interrractive ths morning  so maybe still need the livestreams ourselves.

Yes - me too  Plus the BBC commentators annoy me so much with their :worship:of him and their continual going on about the "problems" he has had to face in his life. Yes - it was very sad - but he is not the only player to have lost a parent at a young age (think J_C Ferrero, David Nalbandian, Mikhail Youzhny etc), - nor is he the only one who has overcome family problems or illness.

Good news everyone, today, here in portugal, there is this Fatima thing going on on TV. Do you know the story behind Fatima? The miracle and all that?

Well, Pope John Paul II firmly believed that Fátima saved him from dying when he was shot, I guess she can also make Nole win, no?

She may not be that into tennis, I am afraid. :scared: Anyway, I have to interpretate this thing on TV as a good sign, no?

Same situation with me. All that I had excused was getting a coursework mark in one of my GCSEs (It was a D and all my other grades in that subject were As, so...yeah, they could tell something was up :p)

but like some people here, i am also experiencing problems of viewing the match. the channelsurfing link doesnt seem to be loading for me. it worked during the blake/gonz match. anyone know of where else there is a good stream?

Elle - my channelsurfing stream is back on now - so maybe refresh yours. If not - go into General Messages and read the livestream thread on the first page. It may have some links just for Australia. Good luck :)

Can't believe I woke up at 11am ad Nole will only start playing around 3pm. :smash: I should have predicted this. :(

But we have had the indupitable pleasure of your company for much longer today and you've met a new friend from Australia so it's all been worthwhile hasn't it? ;)

Dear me - the gap in quality between men's and women's tennis grows ever wider. Let's see who can make the most mistakes this set then.

You're right. It's been fun, thanks for the company. But I could have slept just one more hour.

And yes, WTA :o it's difficult to keep yourself interested in what's going on. I like Ana very much, but she is one of the players who bores me the most with her game. I have no idea why. I normally like to watch Jelena, just not today.:lol:

I won't comment that, because I honestely don't have an opinion. On one hand (...), but on the other hand (...).

This is boring. :awww:

Bronze. This is a QF match. The loser won't have a chance at any medal.

Well I've never agreed with equal prize money  Equal pay for equal work and equal opportunities - yes - for sure. But these two silly ******* couldn't take one game off the Number 375 man in the world - so why pay them as much as Nole and the others? They are dire - I've seen better in my local park.
