Does anyone know that coverage will be like for the Olympics, especially in the U.S.?

I was wondering about that too, what about the coverage of the tennis event in Germany?

Sport+ will cover the whole tennis event in France, as far as I know.

http://www.tenniswire.org/The Olympic Games: Where to watch
Tennis at Beijing Olympic Games 2008
The Olympic tennis event runs Aug. 10-17 and will be broadcast by NBC.

The bad news: Got time? You'll need it! Finding out when NBC broadcast's tennis is a three-step process that requires entering your zip code. It eventually leads to a page that lists every day of Olympic coverage for NBC and its siblings, including the Oxygen Network. Once you get there, you can view only one day at a time.

The better news: Once you find the day and the various tennis programming, you can click "Alert Me" for a reminder. For instance, first-round singles and doubles matches will be broadcast live on CNBC from midnight to 2 a.m. ET on Aug. 10--at least in zip code 10010.

The good news: The web coverage at NBCOlympics.com should be amazing, with live online video that allows you to view four events simultaneously, and live streaming audio by Tennis.com.

I read about that, too. This is pretty amazing. Same goes for the impressive US coverage.
Hopefully France 2 and France 3 will also have some live coverage, at least Clement/Llodra. Anyone who has the Beijing schedule for the french channels?

Here's the current schedule for Germany (in CET):

Sonntag 10.8. 4:00-7.30 ZDF Doku
Montag 11.8. 6.30-8.30 und 15.30-18.00 ZDF Info
Dienstag 12.8. 6.00-8.30 und 15.30-17.00 ZDF Doku
Donnerstag 14.8. 10.00-12.00 und 14.00-16.00 ZDF Doku
Freitag 15.8. 12.30-15.00 Eins Plus
Samstag 16.8. 11.00-11.45 und 15.15-16.30 ZDF Doku
Sonntag 17.8. 12.00-18.00 ZDF Info

But I expect (and hope for) many changes, anyways. It's probably better to take a look at the schedules for ARD/ZDF and their digital channels (EinsFestival, EinsPlus, ZDFdokukanal and ZDFinfokanal) one day prior to the respective matches. If you don't have a receiver, you're really missing out. And those channels are FTA (Free to air), so no Smartcard needed.

Hoping there will be a live stream, that doesn't have geographical restrictions, and one that I can record.

I'm almost certain that there will be no coverage of it at all in Australia considering that only Channel 7 and SBS have the rights to the Olympics, both free-to-air channels.

To my fellow Canadians:

Tennis does not appear on the CBC Sports schedule at all, so unless Dan and Fred make the semis or the final, there likely won't be any on the main network.

TSN has tennis as part of event lists on these days:

Sunday 11
1930-2300: Men's and women's singles and doubles

Friday 15
300-1200: Men's and women's singles semis, men's doubles bronze, Women's doubles semifinals

Saturday 16
400-1000: Men's and women's singles bronze, women's singles gold, men's doubles gold, women's doubles bronze
630-1130: Bronze and gold medal matches

Sunday 17
600-1100: Men's and singles final, women's doubles final

So only four days of (likely partial) coverage , but at least there's lots of other good sports to entertain us :).

A further note on this, it appears now that CBC will also be streaming a lot online, and this will include tennis coverage, but I don't think it will be much more than is shown on TSN. Still, for Canadians without TSN or at work, it's something.

Instead of posting it in GM, I'll just post it here:

Anytime, anywhere in Europe:
The EBU delivering the Beijing 2008 Olympics Games across all media

Geneva, 6 August 2008 – Television, radio, and new media: the European Broadcasting Union (EBU*) and its Members will deliver the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games where ever the audience expects to find them. It will be the most extensive media coverage of the Olympic Games in history.

The EBU’s experience, having covered the Olympic Games since 1956, will help its Members deliver flawless transmissions across all major platforms: mobile, internet as well as radio and television. The EBU’s broadcast infrastructure for Beijing is more than double the size of that for the Athens 2004 Olympic Games.** The Eurovision network will bring over 2,000 hours of high definition and standard definition content from Beijing to national broadcasters across 61 countries in Europe and beyond.

Viewers will be able to watch more than 18,000 hours of television on 118 channels.

Over 20 broadcasters will be making Olympic material available on mobile, and 30 broadcasters on their websites in their countries.

An EBU common broadband platform, www.eurovisionsports.tv/olympics, will feature Olympic content. Internet viewers across Europe and beyond, will be able to watch live programmes from their preferred national broadcaster, complemented by video coverage distributed by the Eurovision network. The portal will carry over 9,000 hours of video material.

"We look forward to exploiting digital technology to deliver more sport from the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games to Europe and beyond, than ever before”, said Jean Réveillon, Director General, EBU.

He added, “By providing broadcasters with standard and high definition pictures and audio, for television, radio and new media, our services will ensure that audiences won’t miss a minute of the excitement anytime, or anywhere in Europe.”

The EBU (flash) stream is working pretty well, but unfortunately there's no fullscreen mode. And it stops after 20 mins, so you'll have restart it. Possibly to screw up stream recordings, though I have yet to successfully record anything.

They also have streams for the European channels which are part of the EBU. For example ARD/ZDF/France Télévisions etc.

Tennis will probably be shown on channel 6. Only for Europe, obviously if you don't have a Prox_y.

Guys. I m just curious how you can keep up with tennis scores at the Olympics. There seems to be no live scoring or TV Coverage until the finals. So basically, if it's not on Tennis Channel or ESPN and you can't follow the scores live, then the only way to follow is just by checking the results once they are announced?

There are livescores :) click here:

http://results.beijing2008.cn/WRM/ENG/Schedule/2008-08-09.shtml

Click on the relevant date at the the top of the page, scroll down to Tennis, and choose which time frame you want (in blocks of 30 minutes.) It'll take you to the match(es) in progress, then click on the particular match you want.

The scores are updated every 15 seconds, but that's better than nothing.

As for the EBU streams, you can get the direct links (and watch the stream in full screen or record it) by using the usual tools, such as URLHelper. Those links expire pretty quickly though and can only be used by the same person who used the URL tool, so no use in posting them. Oh, and you still get disconnected after 20 mins, so you'll have to do the same process again.

Any chance we'll be seeing either semi on TV here in the USA? Yesterday, tennis semis were listed here for Friday in the all night over night segment on USA:

http://www.nbcolympics.com/tv_and_online_listings/zone=ET/day=7/sport=TE/tv.html

But now not only is tennis not listed, but the entire overnight segment is gone.

I'm exhaused from being up half of the night every night following the matches on "livescore" and then up the rest of the night and day trying to accidentally stumble upon TV coverage of the matches, which has been almost totally an unsuccessful waste of time.
