Nie Guga to moj ulubiony zawodnik a Safin jest na drugim miejscu . Nawet jak wygra Safin to będzie dobrze.

Guga played strong and determined.

Marat played tired and confused.

That was really the match. So strange cause all their matches have been very close.

Here are my thoughts while I was watching the Guga-Safin match.

First of all, they were still showing Tim Henman's match when this one started :rolleyes: We joined the match at 25 minutes in, with Guga up a break at 3-2.

John McEnroe was one of the commentators, so I was :D :D :D from the start.

at 3-2: Guga is moving pretty well, though his timing is still a little off (only natural, since he's still recovering from surgery). His serve is on but his rhythm isn't. He's also been coming up to net *a lot*, and not just to finish off points!

at 6-4, 1-1: if this is how Safin started the first set, no wonder he was broken! Error after error after error. If Guga was at the top of his level, he'd be making mincemeat out of Marat.

at 6-4, 4-4: Guga is starting to really find that backhand up the line, and an answer to Safin's backhand winners on his (Guga's) second serve. Guga breaks here to serve for the second set.

at 6-4, 6-4: It's been Safin's match to lose, because although Guga is doing better, he isn't exactly holding serve comfortably (most of his games have been at least 40-30 or deuce). Safin's had way too many unforced errors and "what the fuck?!" brain cramps.

Guga has also controlled most of the points, on both of their serves.

6-4, 6-4, 2-2: Guga is holding serve much easier now, with a love and 40-15 game behind him.

6-4, 6-4, 4-4: Safin finally has a love serve game!

6-4, 6-4, 6-5: Guga's serve is on fire! He breaks for the chance to serve out the match. Safin is looking pretty upset. (and after a shot to Guga's box in the stands) That's not Guga's gf is it? She looks soooo disinterested in the match--someone even had to elbow her to pay attention!

As the match has progressed, Guga became more and more free with his swings and his feet. At the end of the match, Marat is indeed crying :sad:

It was a good match, but I expected a lot more from Safin. I guess his first round really took it out of him. I hope his confidence isn't completely distroyed :(

But YAY GUGA!!!!! That was an awesome display from him, and I can't help but think he's only going to go up :)

Guga was unbelievably better than I expected he would. Safin didnt play a bad match at all (you all know HE is his biggest critic and he said that himself). Gugas serve was very good for most of the match, and his shots were very consistent. Great match. :bounce:
What more to say? Well, Ill do the rest on Gugas forum. :p
